Unfortunately I don't know but based on the microphone logo I'd say she a new member of the Lightning staff or TV crew. I'm guessing we'll find out next Thursday during opening night! The Lightning made some cuts yesterday and today and Matt remains in Tampa and is playing vs Dallas tonight. Word from the Lightning is they could make 1 more cut at Dman but hopefully Matt's performance vs Detroit showed the coaching staff what he is capable to do now. *crossed fingers*

I apologize, I have been remiss in updating you about Matt Smaby at Lightning training camp this year. The general feeling in Tampa prior to the beginning of camp was that the 6th Dman spot was Matt's to lose. Matt has had a good camp but did struggle in "Camp "Torture-ella's" NASCAR lap testing in the 1st two days of camp. The laps continue at the end of each practice during camp too. You can read more below: Smaby Working His Way Through It As mentioned earlier Matt played in his first preseason game last night. The general feeling is Matt played well, better then his D partner who had some brainfart episodes last night. After the game the 1st cut of players was announced and Matt remains in Tampa. Feds hasn't played in any PS games yet. He does take part in practice and all drills but they are holding him out of games right now. He told me on Sunday he will definintely be ready for opening night. FYI - Matt is playing tonight in Montreal, he made it through the 2nd set of cuts. The Lightning coaching staff ticked me off by not playing him on Sunday night at home.

I see there's already been some commentary posted about Smaby. IMO he looked really good in the 3 scrimmages I watched. He got lots of playing time, wasn't afraid to shoot the puck and pinch. FYI - Matt Smaby will be attending the Tampa Bay Lightning's Conditioning and Evaluation camp this week 7/25-29. I'll post some commentary & pics late in the week if anyone is interested.

Wow, I thought Travis wanted to stay to play with his brother? On a separate note, has anyone heard any rumblings about Smaby? I heard there was a rumor on the radio in GF that he was going to sign.
