Oh I see, a Seminole is not a Seminole if they are not from the state of Fla.

Yeah good point. There is so much un-uniformity in the NCAA. They have not treated all schools involved equally and there has been a heavy handed approach to UND.

Why doesn't "sticking it to the majority" not make sense? You know what bothers all of you about the nickname being changed is that you will have lost to the "Indians" on this matter. And most of you just can't come to terms with that. Think about it, after kickin our a$$es for so long, you'll finally lose one!

This post in a nutshell is pathetic. You need help. And maybe you can get Rev. Wright to help champion your cause! Ever think that this mentality of your is your own worst enemy??

The fact that you replied to my post tells me it affected you at some level. Whether or not I need help will be up to me or maybe the authorities but you can bet it won't be at the behest of someone sittin in their trialer, watchin Jerry while finishing their last can of Hamm's for breakfast. Also, I don't need Rev. Wright to champion my cause, my own people will do that when the time comes. Finally, no this mentality is not my worst enemy. If you lived my life and seen the things I have seen growing up you might understand. Pidamaya, for your concern though. peace!

Affected me because I have not read anything so pathetic as all your posts on this site. You are the worst of the worst. You are a racist in minority skin who constantly plays the victim role. Seek your revenge against UND and maybe you'll feel vindicated. Your "own people" must be so proud of you and there in lies why some many NA go back to the reservation...to sit around and point fingers at everyone else for their percieved plight. And as for the "sittin in their trailor" rant, I hope that wasn't pointed at me because as a physican I really enjoy trying to help people, your people included, who take no responsibility or accountability for their own well being. Look in the mirror and there is your main problem!

Somebody has to care for your sorry ass because you'll find someone to blame your physical ills on! And I don't dislike you because you are NA, it is because you are an idiot.

And by the way, you do what to contribute to the betterment of society? Not much...thought so!

Haven't been to the doc in 17 years, keep myself in tip-top shape. Thanks for your concern though. By the way, I'm an educator and my Bio class just finished a genetic analysis of a number of straits in our community, so I am at least making a small contribution. You have a good day now, ya hear!

This post also "affected" me; affected influenced in a harmful way; impaired, harmed, or attacked, as by climate or disease.

The only problem with placing a member on 'ignore' is that when someone responds to that member's post, it's visible. :glare:

My recommendation is to quit getting sucked into fourwinds diatribes. A person only has to look at his posts to know that his primary purpose on this forum is to insult anyone that doesn't agree with him and to make ignorant statements designed to create animosity. Put the poor guy on ignore and save us all from his needling posts.

Ya know I first came on this forum to give a point of veiw from the native side since no one else appeared to be doin it. But it was obvious from the first responses to my posts that only thing anyone wants to hear is support for the nickname. The only other person to be in favor of changing is hermit and he was banned. But I guess i shouldn't have expected anything better from a "Fighting Sioux" forum. You have all been very useful though. When and if we have a meeting on my Rez regarding the nickname you can bet I will print and circulate some of the garbage from this forum and others I have been on. So i guess a big thank you is in order for doing your parts to get the nickname changed. Peace.

I'll be sure to send your "stick it to the man" sentiment to my legislators as well. :glare:

If "Go Sioux!" is wrong, and really means "Sitting Bull ____s" as some would try to tell you ... quite simply the answer is obvious:

"Go Cavalry!"

Thus, "Custer ____s!" <-- fourwindsboy should love that!

(Don't blame me. It's someone else's "logic" strung to it's logical extension.)

Just make sure you include in that meeting all of the name-calling that you contributed. :glare:

I have been trying to just read, as I feel as though I am not the best at conveying my opinions through Internet message boards, but this was just a little bit too much for me.

You state that you wanted a dialogue, and initially I was glad to see a different perspective. But then your posts quickly denigrated to name calling and using the same racist assumptions you accuse members of this forum of possessing. If you want people to value your opinion, you must show the same respect that you expect for yourself.

There are a lot of intelligent, well-educated people that choose to read and post on this forum. Here is hoping that in the future you don't employ the same ignorance you rail against by making assumptions about a group of people that you don't know much about.

Good luck to you in your future endeavors!

If you print this thread in full and hand it out to be read at this meeting and "your" people stand by your posts and philosophical "garbage", then the nickname issue is the least of the concerns that should discussed among "your" people. And frankly, it should be anyways!

I'm not confused. I hold the positon there is no uniformity based on the NC$$ own actions of exempting some schools and not others. Oh sure, they dance around the issue by stating the 'namesake' tribes ultimately can give or deny permission for the use of 'their' names. Bull-snot!! The use of Native American names/logos/mascots is hostile and abuse for all (uniformity) or it's not.

The NC$$ makes so much sense!

No, the ncaa's position is very clear. If you have full support within the Tribal Leadership, you are exempted, period. The ncaa is not voicing an opinion, they are enforcing a clear policy requiring full tribal support before issuing an exemption. Anything less, and they would face massive litigation.

Your choosing to hold a position and have an opinion does not change the facts.

Recently I posted on this site and someone took me to task for standing up for what I believe. It had to do with the vile and what I perceived as hostile approach to some members of this board to the actions of TJ Oshie. The presumption of guilt without facts just grates me, probably because as a proud American I was brought up believing that this premise is a key to our democratic groundings. By the same token a member of the Board appears to be presenting themselves as the spokes person of "our" people. This thread began in response to a letter from a Tribal member with one point of view and another Tribal member, with a distinct different perspective, is recklessly allowing the perception to be formed that he speaks for all of us. Neither of these individual's speaks for anyone but themselves. That is their perogative. I too was raised on a reservation - at at time when things were different. My elders and mentors taught me that we must exist in this world consistent with what in our language is termed "Mitakuye Oyasin". Basically, it embodies the premise that we are all related. Some of the vile and hostile notes that I have seen on this board (from those wanting us to believe that they represent Tribal interests) I see as nothing more than a divide and conquer mentality. On one hand I am taken back because this is so inconsistent with our teachings and the other I am wondering if this really isn't someone masquarading just to stir the pot! I do believe that this is a time, if ever, to understand the teachings of our elders, especially when it comes to Mitakuye Oyasin. Someone far more wise than I captured what it means in the followng prayer that is still spoken:

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin....All my relations. I honor you in this circle of life with me today. I am grateful for this opportunity to acknowledge you in this prayer....

To the Creator, for the ultimate gift of life, I thank you.

To the mineral nation that has built and maintained my bones and all foundations of life experience, I thank you.

To the plant nation that sustains my organs and body and gives me healing herbs for sickness, I thank you.

To the animal nation that feeds me from your own flesh and offers your loyal companionship in this walk of life, I thank you.

To the human nation that shares my path as a soul upon the sacred wheel of Earthly life, I thank you.

To the Spirit nation that guides me invisibly through the ups and downs of life and for carrying the torch of light through the Ages. I thank you.

To the Four Winds of Change and Growth, I thank you.

You are all my relations, my relatives, without whom I would not live. We are in the circle of life together, co-existing, co-dependent, co-creating our destiny. One, not more important than the other. One nation evolving from the other and yet each dependent upon the one above. All of us a part of the Great Mystery.

Thank you for this Life.

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin is a simple yet profound statement. It comes from the Lakota Nation and means all my relations. It is spoken during prayer and ceremony to invite and acknowledge all relatives to the moment.

To most of us today, relative means a blood relation or another human in the family lineage. We have not been taught that an entity, other than human, could be a relative. Understanding this simple statement and contemplating it, could change your outlook on life forever. If you love and honor your relatives, you would be loving and honoring most of what is on this earth, if you lived by this meaning of

The NC$$'s policy was very clear when it came out August 2005. NO Native American names/logos/mascots for NC$$ membership schools or NO hosting championship events, period. Then, they changed their minds because a school that made them multimillions of dollars objected. So, that resulted in a NEW policy. A name sake tribe objected but because they are not in said state they don't count.

Sorry, Herd. There is no uniformity in the NC$$ policy. The only uniformity is whatever benefits the NC$$.

You are correct, the current policy by the NCAA requires full tribal support. You either do, or you don't. It is quite simple. Those that do have been exempted.

You're wrong once again, Herd. The University of North Dakota had the support, written no less, from the Spirit Lake Tribe. The NC$$ decided that wasn't good enough. They wanted the tribe to 'renew' their support. The tribe, which has never rescinded their support, did not respond to the NC$$. So, rather than concluding the Tribe wasn't interested in playing their game, the NC$$ decided that meant there was no support. And now, instead of one name sake tribe supporting the name and logo, which by the way we still have, they want UND to get support from TWO name sake tribes.

See, no uniformity.

Then riddle me this:

Oklahoma Seminole tribe members: no.

Florida Seminole tribe members: yes.

FSU: OK

Five, yes 5, Chippewa bands in Michigan and yet Central Michigan has tribal approval from only one, yes 1, (the closest geographically) of them. The other four are on record as no.

CMU: OK

Two Sioux bands in ND (and should it not be 3 considering the Sisseton-Wahpeton have a casino on I-29 at the ND/SD border). Yet UND needs approval from both, not just the nearest one like CMU.

Consistency not.

It seems WCHA referee Don Adam is in charge. (Some of you will get that reference. :glare: )

Yes. There is absolutely no consistency. The NC00 brought out the special powder for UND because the PC hippies were insanely furious over the palace that Ralph built.
