Not that this merits any discussion but just thought I would share this with fellow Sioux fans...

I was at the Red Wings Meet & Greet at the Joe last night with the kids (autographs, skating, tours, etc.). You had to have tickets to enter and it assigned you a station for 3 Wings players (afterwards was overflow).

To set it up: My kids were wearing the obligatory Red Wings jerseys and I was wearing my UND Hockey sweatshirt/hoodie and cap. We had Samuelson, Frazen and Chelios in our station.

I get up to Chelios and I hand him a sheet of paper with other autographs. He asks how I was doing and exchange some pleasantries. I ask him if he could write down "Go Sioux." He looks at me quizically, "Go Sue?" as I'm male and not a Sue. I replied, "Yes, Sioux... S-I-O-U-X." He then takes a closer look at me with some thought and looks at my sweatshirt... "UND?" "Norte Da... North Dakota!! Come on man, you got to be kidding me? I can't write that! I'm a Badger. I'll give you my autograph any way," he says with a chuckle.

Again, just thought I'd share this for a quick laugh.

Kinda along that same lines....

A few of my friends and I went up to Winnipeg over President's Day weekend to watch the Manitoba Moose and Colby Genoway play. They had an autograph session after the game. One of their goalies is Cory Schneider (the former BC goalie). He happened to be at the end of the line so he saw four Sioux jerseys coming at him for awhile. When we finally got there he joked that he wasn't sure he could sign our stuff, to which we responded that we weren't sure he wanted him to sign our stuff. We chatted a bit about the Frozen Four the past two seasons.... as we were walking away we looked at our autographs and on the last person through the line he had attempted to write "Go Eagles" but only managed to write "Go Eagls"... guess that's a BC education for you... haha! It was pretty funny!

Apparently the Moose had come down for the UAA series and so everyone was commenting on our building and how nice it was and asking how the team was doing. They all knew right away that we were there to see Colby and joked about it. It was a lot of fun! Great group of guys up there.

I went to see Prp play in New Mexico. It was meet and greet and autograph night. I was wearing a green Sioux jersey, one of Prp's game worns. Konrad Reeder (former SCSU Husky) said, "Always loved that logo" Peter Kennedy (former UMtc) said, "Take off that rag". I took a Navajo friend to the game, she had never been or watched a hockey game before. After going throught the line, she said, "Hockey players are CUTE!"

It was all pretty funny.

So did you get to meet Prp that night too?

That's a cool story, he must have been very flattered, I'm sure he doesn't run into Sioux fans often in New Mexico.

I didn't see any but I did run into a Goofy fan. He wore his Goof jersey and inspite of his affiliation, was a very nice guy, works for the border patrol down there. I was working on the Navajo Nation only about six hours away so I took the opportunity to go see Prp. He recognized me from GF probably because of the stalking award I had made for him.

That's ok, I always think of him as Badger scum anyway.

To re-affirm your opinion of him, Chelios had apparently verbally committed to Gino, but on signing day he signed with Wisco. Badger Bob was obviously a better recruit thief than Lou Nanne and Glen Sonmor. He would have been quite an addition to the 81-82 recruiting class of James Patrick, Dave Tippet, Jim Archibald, Rick Zombo, Dave Donnelly, and Gord Sherven.

I'm quite sure Chelios verballed to Gino after he visited UND. He still hadn't taken his visit to Wisconsin at that time and instead of canceling that trip several weeks later he decided he take it even though he'd already committed to Gino. Gino didn't like that so he told Chelios that he'd be better off someplace other than UND.

Gino always said that if you're going to play at North Dakota you better bleed green. He didn't feel Chelios showed that he was committed to being a Fighting Sioux if he still wanted to make a trip to Madison. UND won a couple of National Championships without Chelios and Wisconsin won a couple with him and it made for the best rivalry in college hockey.

Well since we all are sharing interesting stories about sioux jerseys i will share this one. Pretty unebelievable though.

I used to go to Los Vegas every year for the Nascar race there but the last couple I havent made it there. I always stayed at the Imperial Palace mainly cuz it was the cheapest and cuz of ralph. Well I was wearing a UND hat and a UND shirt walking around the casino. I lost more then I won however. So i went to sit at the tiki bar they got there. There were a two big men in suits dressed up with ear pieces and I thought they must be a celebrity of some sort drinking there. So i went in for a closer look, before I knew it those two men had me basically pinned up against the wall and I heard a crackly voice behind me saying let him go. The man was Ralph. They were his security guards and we talked for a while. He didn't beleive I was from GF at first till i showed him my ID and we bascially drank long in to the nite (free drinks of course) and talked a lot about sioux hockey. He had a lot of big whigs come there and I felt out of place but he was really ncie to me. He said he goes to a ton of sioux games just no one knows hes there i guess. I go the next morning to check out and my bill was 0.00. He let me stay for free all I was there.

yeah, did you ever tell him that I want a new autograph? I mean cmon if you are going to insult me by writing go your college team at least spell it correctly!

Which, you forgot about "Focus, Focus, Focus" which was quite possibly the best quote from that weekend.

I shared my story a few months ago about when I was at the Chicago Blackhawks game. During warmups I was stalking cheering for Toews with my Sioux gear on. Towards the end of warmups Adam Burish came on over to our area and was resting. He looked over at my brother and I and we flashed all our Sioux gear, he simply looked, stuck out his tongue in disgust then laughed. It was a classic moment and is fun to see players carry the rivalries in their pro careers.

Not true. Chris Chelios only played the 1981/1982 and 1982/1983 seasons with Wisconsin.

82/83... ouch.

We had the Badgers at home in the league playoffs - we had the lead in the 3rd period of game 2 in the total goal series - we ended up losing in multi ot and ended up not going to the NCAA's. The Badgers ended up winning it all - in Grand Forks!!!
