  1. I'm sure Schmaltz will make up his mind prior to August, buy arguing against anyone saying that waiting until then is anything but bush league is ridiculous. Yes, there are prior examples of it, but it doesn't change the fact that the program is going to be in scramble mode.

Speaking of Schmaltz leaving or staying. Again he should take his time in deciding and no it doesn't leave UND in a bad place. We have the committed recruits to backfill. Yes, it will hurt to lose arguably the best passer in college hockey and a 1st round pick, but let's not forget our culture at UND is second to none. Our culture promotes and praises our players for reaching the next level pro, semi pro, overseas; we will be lucky to have him another year.

I'm sure he'll wait until after prospect camp as a lot of players do who are on the fence...and he SHOULD wait until then to make an informed decision about his future.

The comments about Schmaltz hurting UND came from the comment about him waiting until the end of July to make a decision. At that point they have incoming recruits figured out.

Sorry. I'll take the 23 lashes.

"Constantly" being loosely defined here, I suppose ;)

In all seriousness, didn't know it offended anyone. I'll try and put it into a more pertinent thead.

It's pretty easy to scroll past if you're not going to look at it, but it is the internet where everyone's opinion is the most important and we're all offended.

What that article essentially says though is that this year will be his last. No chance of sneaking him for a junior season. Sucks for us, but he'll likely be ready for the show after next season.

If you want to know how to celebrate a short handed goal in the National Championship game go to the 34:00 mark and watch the upper left hand corner of the screen.

The guy windmilling his arms in the white Sioux jersey?

  6. I've read this 3 times already today. Amazing article, great storytelling and written in a way that made me feel like I was there with the players. Schlossman should get an award for this one.

Lot of linguistics my small mind doesn't understand...but point is the new coach went further in his first year than the previous coach went in his last nine years...you call it a "cheap shot", or call it  "reality."

    I don't care.

    I'll call them National Champs.

And that coach that just couldn't get it done took a jump to NHL head coach. Then took an NHL bottom feeding team to the playoffs. Then gave the number one team in the East a pretty solid run for their money. I guess I fall into the viewpoint that a coach is judged by a season, players by single games.

I think Berry's legacy will be pretty cemented if he's able to maintain the same type of success as Hakstol had, minus the championships obviously.

I take life, and internet message boards, a lot more relax than you apparently?

Not at all, I'm pretty laid back, but being relaxed and chill doesn't mean I'm not going to call someone out whether it's on a message board or in life. Sorry, not actually sorry, if you have issues with that.

as I said a down year at UND is one game from making the Frozen Four or not.....UND will always make the playoffs....thats a gurantee....but heck now that they lost so many underclassman at least the worst they will probably do is equal Hakstols best years the last nine years at UND.

We don't know what a "down" Berry year looks like yet. We just lost 3 defenseman, 2 of which were instrumental to winning a championship. While Johnson looked great most of the year, he did have games where he was below average at best. Everything looks great when you're playing behind an NHL caliber defensive lineup. If Schmaltz goes, we're lucky the NCAA playoffs would go through Fargo for us. I'm most certainly not putting any carts in front of any houses, and most certainly am not going to take some cheap pot shot at a coach who literally did have us in the hunt every year whether we deserved to be there or not.

No, Minneapolis is a bandwagon town.

No, the bandwagon town is located on I-94 on the Minnesota/North Dakota border. Ten years ago, they couldn't give tickets away to a certain sport. Now every person you come across claims to be some sort of super fan.

sounds like wolanin is coming back. Schloss mentioned there were 5 more players that had a decision, he was one nobody was really talking about. He probably had a deal. His twitter message is somewhat cryptic.

Didn't realize he was a draft pick even. Not often you're worried about someone splitting time leaving early.

And I have Bison friends who texted me during the game who said "congratulations - great job by your team."

I personally don't know a single Bison fan who didn't think that Alabama wouldn't do anything less than hang 100 on NDSU.  I think your Fargo hyperbole is, well, exaggeration.

You and I have very different Bison fan friends. I must be lucky and have the colossal douches of the fan base.

I just really, really want Nick to come back. I feel like people somehow undervalue him. His puck control and vision are amazing and he was awesome on his back check. Almost Datsyukian in the way he can pick pocket guys from behind.

I don't under value him at all. He comes back, and I feel as though we're nearly guaranteed another trip to the Frozen Four, and banner 9. For someone whose knock against him coming in was that he would take shifts off and didn't care for defense, our coaching staff got rid of all of that.

This is YUGE... We have at least 4 rock solid (Ausmus, Poolman, Wolanan sp?, Shaw) experienced D-men coming back with LaDue still to decide. Get Schmaltz back and we have to be the favorite for #9 though BU will be incredible. Hope the younger Poolman develops like his brother, and Evers is also NHL legit.

That BU recruit class scares me. Hopefully they take 3 years to gel.

Im not saying he will, just what i was told. I have no idea but people within Kings org believe it will get done.

It stands to cost him millions if he signs this season. That's why the Kings are pushing so hard. He signs now he gets an entry level two way contract. He waits until after next season and signs with the Kings or goes free agent route, it's a one way contract worth significantly more. I'd heard he was leaning towards staying, also what I believe to be a very reliable source, but when a guy is 50-50 on something you and I are technically reliable sources. As is a coin flip.
