Can't imagine the stress level this portal crap adds for them. Can never ever....feel comfortable with any position group ever. It could all be wiped out by a bunch of transfers on any given year for a position group. Right now it is what it is though, and we have to try and be on the positive side of it somehow by getting good transfers in. But we are going to see good, really good players transfer out now every year. Friggin sucks.

Yeah we did due to his injury. Thankfully they switched him to WR and also used him in the Brockstar, it was effective when he was healthy....and he was one of our better straight up WR's in my opinion. I was looking forward to two more years after his Sophomore season of the Brockstar, but we really got 0 more of that. He wasn't fully himself the first part of the year, and then seems like we always got a pre-snap penaltly every time they tried it the first half of the year. Would have really like to have had him as another arrow in the quiver next fall.

Boltmann isn't coming back, dang that sucks. After his sophomore year I was looking forward to watching him play two more years. Out the whole Spring 2020 and seemed to finally start getting back to his old self the last 2-3 games of the season this year. Was really hoping he would be back.

With all due respect, you just proved my point as well. But I am with you, and also hope he doesn't get a multi year extension. I could go tell you to check my post about Stig's record 8 years in. But I'm not getting into this whole thing on a weekly basis the entire off season so I can hear about how low my expectations are.

I would hope Entz seat was hot if they finished 5-6 since he took over a program that was winning a National Championship 4 out of every 5 years. Meanwhile Bubba took over a program that went 3-8 and wasn't even sniffing being the the playoff discussion. Doesn't mean I don't think Bubba needs to get some of his crap together on some of the things that happened this year, we have him for two more years that is just reality. Goofy year or not, he did just come off a MVFC conference co-title and isn't getting fired and contract buyout.

Just because some of you think they should have taken a time out, it is not an obvious coaching blunder IMO. The going for it on 4th down on our own 20.....yes, that play will live in infamy....as it should, was horrible. And you are right, we wouldn't have gotten in over UNI anyway. Still woulda liked to have gotten that win though.

Damn the portal sucks. Honestly hard to know how good the team may or may not be next year until we find out how many transfers there are. The portal could really be damaging to any team on any year....if they have a lot of people leave at the same position in the same off season. The portal could blow a huge hole in any position group on the team at any moment. This is obviously the new normal, we will just have to try and be really good at grabbing incoming guys as good or better than that are leaving each year. I bet the damn portal really stresses the hell out of coaches, you literally can't count on anything anymore. It's already stressing me out.

It does feel like we keep taking 2 steps forward and then 1 step backwards and it has been frustrating as hell. However I do think we have a lot of depth and probably have the best all around team that we've had. New speedy WR recruit, Tommy finally learning he can run and/or Feeney next year......new kicker that looks good......I'm going to try and be optimistic in the off season, whether it is delusional or not.

Ok this actually made me laugh out loud

So let's assume two scenarios... 1. Richter runs route at full speed and catches that ball. We take a Timeout after he gets tackled. So then it's 3rd and 1 at about the 14 with the clock stopped with 46 seconds and one timeout remaining. It's 3rd and one and you have just taken a timeout to think about what to call on a very important 3rd down. 2. We take a timeout after the sack. There is 1:26 left on the clock with the clock stopped. We run the same play and hit Richter in the same spot he gets tackled with 1:19 on the clock and the clock is running. It's third down and we can't spike the ball, so everyone would be running up to the line. The coach probably doesn't want to super hurry the play call in because it's 3rd and one and is a huge play so by the time they run it.......it probably takes 30 seconds off the clock by the time they snap it on that crucial 3rd down, which would mean there would have been about 50 seconds left. Really not much different in my opinion on how much time and timeouts would have been left no matter which way they did it. It could be argued the first scenario having a timeout to make sure you get the best 3rd and 1 play you have called correctly would be important. Now if you are telling me during the timeout, they would have told Richter....."hey....don't forget to keep running full speed when you break your route in" Then they definitely messed up by not calling the timeout. I think it could be argued they should have taken a timeout after the sack, and I think it could be argued they didn't need to burn one there.

It looks a little akward, like he's not expecting it because he slowed a bit, but he had his head turned back and was looking for the ball.....but then kinda akwardly reaches his arm out for it because he was breaking more straight across and slowed up a bit instead of breaking in and continuing to go full speed. At the time of the game I had kind of blamed Tommy for a bad throw and leading him too far, but after watching I can see why he threw it where he did......Richter would have been there if he wouldn't have slowed up that little bit. Not sure if Ricther was right or wrong on how he ran that route, but it sure looks like that is what happened, and I don't think it had much to do with a Timeout not being taken. And yes there were 3 defenders in that area, and at the time watching Live I thought it was a risky throw. But watching again there was a fairly wide open window there. After that sack, maybe 60-70% of coaches would have taken a timeout, and 30-40% wouldn't have. So I don't think it's like a 95% that he should have taken a timeout after the sack. After all of the blunders this year though it is easy in hindsight to say that now and blame it on the coaches. But if Richter keeps running full speed that is a huge completion and we are sitting good.

I just watched the play about 10 times. As another poster mentioned, and I hadn't caught it at the time, when Richter breaks to the inside....he slows up just a bit. Would you say if he keeps running the route the way Tommy expects him...meaning continuing full speed to the inside......that the ball hits him in the hands?

And when you are a program that will get a ton of very very highly qualified applicants wanting to take over.

I agree with all of your points here. Here are my thoughts: 1. Bubba isn't getting bought out of his contract, so we are stuck here for a little bit, but my god I hope they learned a little something this year from their mistakes. 2. Could Caden Dennis be that guy that gives us that deep threat to spread the field next year, hopefully so. 3. Tommy running as much as he did yesterday did really change things. Hopefully he continues that next year and/or Feeney beats him out and makes those 5-8 plays with his legs a game that we need. 4. That new kicker we recruited looks pretty good. Hopefully he will be that guy for us for the next four years. Looks like a decent punter as well. Looks like he should be able to put the ball in the end zone on almost every kickoff too. So 2-4 look like they could be promising for next year. #1 issue....I guess we'll see.

I think if it was 4th and long and we were inside the 20 we woulda tried a FG.
