So if we win out the rest of the way, and would have played a middle of the road FCS school instead of Utah State and won that game, would we be in the playoffs because we were 7-4?
-
I think he was referring to EWU.

I kind of agree with this, and wasn't able to see the play this weekend due to streaming being out. However remember at Cal Poly, when I think it was Boltmann who went in motion to the left on 4th and 2, and we faked a hand off (I think) and we hit the TE on a crossing route and he took it in for a TD and the win. Danny was the hero and I think nearly everyone said it was a great call. Now if that pass goes incomplete, Danny looks like an idiot and we are asking why didn't we run it. Again not saying he shouldn't have run Otis on this 4th down this weekend, but trick plays either look really good or really silly depending on if they work or not. I'm guessing the 5 times they ran it in practice previous to the game the executed it just fine. The 4th down against NDSU, a reverse that didn't work, also looked dumb. When there is extra pressure on when running a 4th down and short and so many guys right at the line of scrimmage, yeah probably not the best time to run some of these gadget plays. It certainly hasn't worked lately. I know we were running the ball fairly well this past weekend, but not sure how well we were running it when it was a predictable run play because I couldn't see the second half. We seem to struggle when the defense knows it's a running play, so I think that is part of reason Danny goes to the bag of tricks.....and it hasn't worked.

Agree, that was just my feelings after several beverages and getting back to my room and reading the thread before I crashed.

It’s funny some of you Otis haters are blaming this all on him. I really think some of you legitimately want him to F up and get kicked off the team. Some of you are pathetic and are the reason I hate people sometimes.

Thanks for the update since stream isn’t working! Let’s go Hawks!
-
Was a nice call since Quincy through that bubble screen last week

The Tin Roof has Hawkeye watch party every weekend, they may have ESPN Plus. Iowa game started at 11:00. Haven’t been there though.
-
Agree, hopefully somebody posts if they play the game there. Will watch from our room and then maybe come watch 2nd half of it’s on there.
-
Cool, good to know! I assume they wouldn’t be playing audio or anything, but just having it on is pretty good.
-
I tried calling Rippy’s Honky tonk bar twice today as that one looked like it had a lot of tv’s and was close to the stadium. I was going to inform them of the situation and see if they would be able to play it and play the audio, but I got voicemail both times I tried calling. I may stop there tomorrow night and ask in person. Also Tin Roof bar has a Hawkeyes watch party every Saturday and they play at 11:00 Saturday. It would overlap a little with our 2:00 start. But since they already have a watch party for sports they may be open to putting our game on after the Iowa game, or at least put it on a few TVs even before Iowa game is over. Nudies Honkey Tonk on the strip has buckets of beer for $30, six beers for domestic. Not too horrible. I may try to check in person with a few bars tomorrow night but it’s probably going to be pretty crazy and won’t be able to get anybody to agree to showing it with audio. I’ll post if I’m successful!

Looks like 60% chance of rain on Saturday, so....so much for a fun gathering outside before the game. Doubt they would have the football game streamed somehow at the preparty if it's likely going to be raining.
-
Maybe I'll have to catch up with you before or after the game....like at Utah. Not sure exactly what our plan is yet. It will definitely be hella expensive starting to drink at 2:00 at the bars downtown on Saturday but we might do that because.....when in Rome! Looks like there is a big outdoor pregame party in a grass area just outside Bridgestone. Might be huge lines to try and get drinks etc. though.

Not sure what they are saying Waletzko could project as to what round in the draft. If they are saying late round, could he possibly decide to comeback to improve himself further and possibly his draft spot the following year? If it sounds like he is a lock to get drafted, would be hard for him to not leave and get the money while you can. Never know when you could get injured.

Football game is at 2:00 Central and Hockey game is at 7:00 Central. Would be nice if there was a bar or something on the downtown strip that would be showing the game and playing the audio from the game.
-
Ha I know, that is why I thought I'd ask over here instead
-
Has anybody heard if there will be a watch party anywhere in Nashville for the football game this Saturday? I don't usually go on the Hockey page, but took a quick look over there and didn't see anything.
-
You are correct. I shouldn't have said all, because yeah guys that would have been seniors in Fall of 2020/Spring 2021......yeah they won't have eligibility after Fall of 2021. I guess I was thinking that it was implied that he was talking about guys other than guys like Holm, Canady, etc.. who would have been seniors last year.

If we run the table the rest of the way, we would be ranked #15 or so and easily be in IMO.
-
We had run that little option 1 or 2 times before this season if I recall correctly. You are right though, it caught the defense off guard and worked. Not sure if we should run more of it, or use it infrequent so that it does catch the D off guard and works in big situations. A naked bootleg by Tommy would likely work in a big situation like that since there is almost never a called running play for him. Although if the defense ends up having a guy out there to defend it and Tommy is one on one with a Defender, it will look like a horrible call and we wonder why we didn't give it to Otis. I would say at some point this season Danny will call a naked bootleg, and hopefully it is wide open for the first down or TD (whatever the situation).
-
Yes....it was 100% sarcasm.
-
Maybe he has a little more speed that Otis so they ran outside more? 4 RB's have run for over 100 yard games this year.....that is pretty impressive when you are on your 5th string RB and he puts up 100 yards. Nice to have such depth there. Pretty sure Skokna was over 100 that one game.
-
I was thinking this exact same thing. The OL seemed to look good between the 20's....getting some nice chunks on the ground. But when we get in the red zone are rushing the ball just gets squashed. First and goal from the 5, Otis runs it three times for 1 yard. I think when it was 3rd and 5 Danny knew we were going to go for it on 4th and that's why he ran Otis again on 3rd down to catch them off guard, but still got absolutely nothing up the middle. When you get inside the 20 and can't run up the middle, almost at all, that makes it tough to be efficient.

Here is the thing.....I think most all of us realize Tommy does have some limitations. Some people think his limitations are greater than others. But what is Bubba supposed to do right now.....just cut Tommy and Quincy because they are never going to 'get us there' and start Feeney, because according to this board he is the second coming of Christ? We all want our next QB to be even better than the one we currently have (which is probably normal). But we've got what we've got for this year, maybe next year but Feeney will be in the mix then. Just don't see why every week the 'Tommy will never get it done' drum has to be beat so loudly, we've all heard it for months already. Just because we get tired of hearing that drum, doesn't mean the rest of us all love settling for mediocrity. Hopefully we can get a big win on the road next week and keep the momentum going!
-
So if we wouldn't have went on it on 4th down from our 20 and won that game, and if our kicker makes a kick the weekend before and we have a winning record, then you are saying nobody on this board should question our QB play then either huh? Ok. I do realize Tommy has some limitations, never said he didn't. Just pointing out that QB U just south of us doesn't seem to have a perfect QB either, regardless of their record. You could say we had a better QB than them last year, not sure.....could maybe say it again this year but I haven't see their transfer kid play more than just against NDSU when he didn't throw the ball at all.
