Random positives or things I like when looking at the 2023 schedule.

    • Opening at home against Drake
    • NAU game is 2nd on the schedule (vs playing Boise the 2nd week)
    • Bye week is between road games
    • Play WIU at home the week before NDSU
    • @ USD is 2nd last weekend
    • Finish winnable home game

The Bye is a week or two earlier than I'd maybe like it, but yes it is good that it's between two road games and big road games at that.

    First 6 games:  Go 4-2

    Last 5 games: Go 4-1

That would put us at 8-3.  Need to beat SU at home this year.

Long, smooth, and raw. Super high ceiling on this kid. Coaches are excited to work with him, he’s all potential.

He has long strides like Maag, so it can be deceiving how fast he is.  Definitely lots of potential.

    Burner?

Don't think he's considered a burner but looks like pretty good speed for being 6'5.  I don't know any stats about him or anything, just going off his Hudl. Thinking it was said a while back he has only been playing football for like 2 years or something, so probably has plenty or room to learn ND improve.

This is a good one.  NDSU coaches (Hedberg) were just at his bball game two weeks ago vs Wahpeton watching him play.

But.....SU didn't really want him

I get what you're saying...but I will say I don't view NAU as a "huge" game.  I view it as a game that we should physically dominate at home and win going away.  If we lose that's a sign of a much bigger problem in my eyes...it's time to expect to win games like this one going away.  On that...I will say that I actually agree with UND-FB-FAN.

Nowhere in my post did I say it will be a huge game.  I said it will be an important game because it's against a Big Sky team and may be used if we go up against another Big Sky team in terms of seeding/playoff birth come playoff time, or just in comparing strength of the two conferences in general.  Since the Big Sky got pretty full of themselves last year, I'll be paying close attention to any of the games between Big Sky and MVFC teams.

The NAU game should be a win, and I agree we are at home and we should win this type of game going away....I'm hoping it's  15+ point type of win.

  6. The NAU game will be an portant game for use next year because it can be used as a measuring stick for us against other Big Sky teams. It was be nice to get a convincing win at home against them, and would love to see Montana lose at NAU. Looks like a fairly tough schedule for NAU this Fall.

It will also help be a measuring stick for MVFC against Big Sky. Hopefully SDSU dominates Montana State again next year too as that will help Big Sky.

QB Depth is more important, IMO.  And never know if one will transfer.

Agree, doubt they would switch either of them this fall.  Fall of 2024 if Schuster does stay another year, and if Kaminski is ahead of Feeney....wouldn't be surprised if Feeney transfer to somewhere he can play.  Although if Schuster is gone Fall of 2024 it could be Kaminski and Feeney battling it out.  I could see Romfo changing positions at some point unless he is still ahead of Feeney on depth chart.

Wonder if they are looking at him for OL or DL.  Since we already got a lot of OL recruits in this class...I was thinking DL.  But after watching his hudl.....maybe as a Gaurd on the OL?

Their recruiting under Entz has gone downhill.  They were fortunate to get to Frisco but the road to mediocrity lies ahead for them.

Lets' hope.  But I want to see them not win the natty for two years in a row before I start getting too excited.  Should we beat them next fall........after losing yesterday.....that would be perfect.....they would totally be in full meltdown mode after that!

    Why aren’t NDSU 7 and 70 showboating today? ;)

I was so wanting an SDSU player to do a horns down right in front of his face......or try to give him a high five while they were getting their asses handed to them.

Just saw that as well. All in all.....we fared about as well as we could have hoped with portal guys leaving this year. I'm sure there will be some more in the spring. But if and when a really good player decides to transfer out of UND......no need to queue up the whole....."UND coaches really need to fix the culture" comments that will be coming from a few people instantly.  This is just a reality now and it's going to happen to all teams at some point. But hopefully we can continue to limit top talent leaving and bring in more talent and have the portal be a net gain for us.  I just hope we don't have a situation where a few guys at the same position transfer out at the same time, as that is a killer.

I thought Kelly has always been good at ranting.  Listening to the podcast now.

I said a couple months ago....I love his rants actually.  Tells it like it is when he rants...which is needed at times.  Haven't listened to this podcast yet though, but looking forward to it.

This one could be interesting to see how he develops.  Sounds like he has only played football since 2020.  Very good size, also plays basketball so he hopefully has good feet.  Hopefully Pawluk can coach him up into an All Conference type of guy.

    Size yes. Strength? Stamina?

    Work to be done.

Oh yes....plenty of work to be done.....just because the have the size and weight doesn't mean anything.....yet.  But when you are starting with  better mold......hopefully the end result will also be better, and get their more quickly too.

I think he will be a guy we look back on at the end of next year and think he really changed our offense.

I agree....he was a very good get.  Any time you can get another conference teams top WR......gotta like that.  Who knew UND could be an attractive option for some legit D1 portal guys.  :silly:

Can’t remember a recruiting class that had so much beef coming in.

I agree, a lot of these guys already have the size of some of our current players....seems like a definite focus to get bigger guys.

I was just able to check on here now......kinda like Christmas morning scrolling through.....but it wasn't a complete Merry Christmas until I saw the Kaminski commit!!  BOOM!

How does that contradict what I have said?  Danny called the play, Danny works for Bubba. Why do so many of you make excuses for mediocrity over and over again?  Over time there is NO LUCK involved in winning and losing football games.  The 4th down vs NDSU is probably the worst situational football move I can remember.  If anyone can think of a worse situational move by a college or NFL football coach, let me know.

I haven't gone back and re-read it all....but I think the whole issue is that whole part of the discussion stemmed from someone basically saying....."Bubba directly screwed the pooch in the Missouri State game at the end".   Otis fumbled the ball on his own, Danny called the play and it didn't work.....so some people were just questioning.....how is that Bubba directly screwing that game up.  In the end wins and losses are on the coach....yes, but to say Otis's fumble and that 4th down play call....somehow show Bubba is a bad coach based on that....just seems like a stretch to pile on Bubba.  And on that 4th down play call....we likely wouldn't have picked it up if we ran it up the gut.

I am with you on the 4th down call against NDSU, and probably most of us are as to how bad it was....but that wasn't what we were talking about when the Missouri St. meltdown came up.

  18. 4 hours ago, Midwestern Hawk said:

In case anyone has forgotten UND was dominating the game at that point, up 28-17 with 6:32 left.  4th and 2 at Missouri State 29 yard line.  We direct snap to Otis, he hands it to Bo who is going to throw a pass to Q.  I would love to know how many times that play worked flawlessly in practice.

As for fault, its Bubba's fault.  That is how football works.

Did Bubba call that play? On 4th down....does the OC run the play by the coach first or does he just run it? That I don't know the answer to.  Bubba may have had veto power but I hardly doubt he got on the headset and told Danny....hey let's run that one trick play...

Danny should get most of the blame for the play call if you are going to blame someone. However, any time a trick play is run.....if it doesn't work.....people think it's the worst call in history. But when they run it and it works....all of the sudden they are brilliant. Thinking back to last year, our OL was not good at picking up short yardage. Remember our -1 yard average running the ball on 2nd and short last year? Danny must have felt the couldn't punch it up the gut with a stacked line on 4th and short and tried to catch them off guard, obviously turned into a disaster.

Right now I’m pretty happy I bought SDSU hoodie, after they beat the bison in October, to wear around here in Fargo.

Hoping you are even more excited to wear in about three weeks!
