You will just have to revisit the remaining 5,000 players in the portal that won’t find an home and/or Jucos.

I think the one window will help the smaller schools.

True, that is just the window where they have to declare to enter the portal, but can be signed/commit anytime after that I guess right. I wasn't thinking lol.

  2. As much as I hate to see another window for guys go leave, curious to see how things go with no spring portal. If you dont get what you need in the winter portal, you are kind of stuck with what you've got. Hopefully we can fill most all the holes we needed to fill.

I am a long ways from a coaching expert, but Rogers ascent has seemed a bit odd and overzealous to me. Took over for a legend at SDSU, only 2 years of great success, moved to WSU for 2 years with marginal success. Now moving to ISU and 50 players there hit the portal.  Seems like some or all of this is premature.  Also odd that he could not find a way to fit Danny into his plans somewhere after Danny made the move to Brookings.  FWIW.

I agree with you, but everyone seems to want a so called 'hot and upcoming' young coach these days.

Michigan taking Utah's coach though was the exact opposite of that. He seems like a good guy and I'll be rooting for him to do well, even though I'm not necessarily a Michigan fan.

I know. Not what gets me excited for a transfer. Hopefully he’s amazing but he couldn’t crack the lineup at a !@#$ program

Agree,  but never know and will hope for the best. Flemming wasn't the top WR and NAU and the UNI RB was like 4th on their depth chart and both were really good at UND.

100-200K these days is a mere pittance, especially if you don't have a job.

Who says he won't have a job this next upcoming season. He was only making like 100k at UND. So he could take an entire year off this next year and have netted the same or more financially.  But getting FBS experience and learning from a different coaching tree is a good thing. Schmidt wouldn't be who he is today if he hadn't left and gained that experience.

My guess is Danny will land a decent job somewhere.

The only downside is that means the Bison lost to the eventual champion.

Nobody will care about that a year from now except for SU fans. They don't give trophies for losing to the champion in like the quarter finals. Im good with ISU winning.

  7. I think we can maybe back off just a bit for ripping whomever our OC is for doing shotgun inside the 3 yard line. ISU just did it and ive  seen like like 4 other teams do it in the past month, as I started watching and paying attention to that.

Not saying I wouldn't like to see us under center in those situations.  But teams that run this type off offense seem to stay in shotgun even when close, it's not just us.

This is debatable. He was always holding out for Minnesota Gophers, Big 10, or NFL, as his comments indicated. But, to his defense, many would be.

I would sure hope we aren't after coaches that want UND to be their last stop. I would hope all of our coaches are all in on UND while they are here.  But it's pretty safe to say that most all be gone in 5 years, including Schmidt if he's done what we hope he does.

To add to this, as someone on here had previously mentioned, the games where he had lots of rushing attempts were games we lost.

    - 13 attempts against USD (this is when the season turned for him and his play declined) Schedule got much better so that factors in too

    - 17 attempts against NDSU

    - 14 attempts against SDSU

The season is long and grueling already, putting this much on him at the end certainly didn’t help.

Didn't realize he had that many attempts in those games, that is a lot! Seems like if the defense is tough and shuts down our RB's then it forces more QB runs. OL needs to get better and better WR's so cant stack the box.  5-8 attempts a game on average seems like a decent number. Run QB enough to keep them honest, and when you need it.

Bison fans hated Polasek as OC if I remember correctly.

Didn't a lot of them complain about Rhoel too?

My reply was also going to be....thr only team that doesn't hate their OC is the one who wins the Championship.  I do remember NDSU complaining about theirs at different times in the past few years and they won titles with those OC's, and they were still complaining.

If you can run the ball down their throats too, that sure makes life easier as the OC. I remember an SU playoff game with the game on the line and they were either 3rd or 4th and goal from the 5 with less than a minute to play, QB in shotgun.....and I think half the stadium new they were going to run the QB draw....and they did.....and of course he runs it in for a TD and won the game.

God it would be f*cken awesome if he came back to be the OC for Schmidt and his protege Kaminski….

A guy can dream can’t he?

Fruend or Fruechte,  would be an interesting poll. The most recent frustration has been with Fruechte though,  so Danny would probably win  in that poll. If the poll was taken halfway through the season though, might have been Fruechte leading the poll?

Well I wish him well wherever he goes. The MVFC gets a lot of press in recent years so I think the opportunities are there even if you stay.

Right, Davis from SDSU got drafted didnt he, and made a roster. NDSU and SDSU have had a fair amount of guys drafted recently, which helps UND and USD get eyes on them as well as the MVFC. Guys like Rucker and others that really show out will get plenty of eyes on them, and lots of playing time.

I agree, I remember Glass specifically was kicking from pretty far out (and won us a game or two). We don't even try kicks outside the 30. Against SDSU if we would have had a reliable kicker we could have taken the 3 in our second to last possession and then won the game in regulation on a last second FG.

Yep. I know there was one game for sure where he drilled a 47 harder or more for the win or tie with only a few seconds on the clock. He definitely made some clutch kicks.

I do agree though that we often remember things or players maybe being better than they were sometimes. But in this case the distance of the kicks does plays into it.

Turns out Elrichs had the best percentage on XP's of them all. Sometimes it's when those misses occur though,  if its not a close game people dont remember the miss because it didnt matter.

    2026 schedule....

    Long Island....that's a win.

    St. Thomas.....win.

    At Portland State.....win.

At Nebraska.....no more Pat Maholms Jr. At QB....

    Northern Iowa.....win.

    At ISU Blue.....win.

    South Dakota.....win.

    At SDSU.....loss.

    At SIU....win

    Murray......win

At Youngstown.....Beau will be tough at his place.

NDSU....I'll call this a win at home.

Way too early record projects out to be in the 9-3 ballpark.  They should be 3-0 heading into Nebraska, can't falter at Portland State....that team was awful this year, but a new coach this year.

Two huge games to end the season.  Unless they lose a lot, YSU will definitely be tough on the road with Beau coming back. It's nice to not have to automatically chalk this up as a loss like we did before. Will be a good game.

I don't see it. Given the timing. Odd saying since the portal doesn't open until 01/02, but what did not happen is the various collectives had conversations with other players, had agreements and then now said, nope and they gave it all to Rucker.

Let's all cleanse the timeline from that post.

    What I'm watching for now.

    • JUCO rulings. Wiltshire, Samuels Parker, Walker, Scott. Can they get any of those guys back for another year? Unpopular opinion, but UND losing 4 impact players, is a lot compared to NDSU's - 0, SDSU's - 1, wait on USD. If they can get any of those guys, IMO, it would cancel out an impact player for player

@Kab checking back in. More optimistic than I was!

    USD lost an impact RB

Just got listening to the podcast.  I thought they may do a season prediction but probably a bit early with unknown roster positions.  I'll say 9-3 would the benchmark for a good season.  Double digit wins would be a great season, and less than 8 would be a disappointment.  Curious - how did we end up with back to back seasons with NDSU at home?

Yeah WAY too early for them to do  2026 season predictions, especially in today's age with the portal and us not even knowing who will be on the roster yet.  They usually do that in an August podcast.

  17. Every year when a couple good UND players enter the portal,  we all often freak out, which is probably normal. But its never really been a huge landslide of important players leaving, even under Bubba. I could be wrong, but I think most if not every year.....in the end we came out as a net positive in the portal, or at least even. I'm sure it will eventually happen where we end up in a worse spot, but thinking more times than not it will be a net positive...especially under Schmidt, and now with all of the nice facilities.

Some guys over the years will probably jump to FBS, it'll happen. Just dont want really good players to go to another FCS team.
