I was going to say, I think Jerry has to be able to run the ball comparable to Simon. Guy was flying chasing down Smith (I think) on that long play a couple weeks ago. Think Jerry’s issue in fall camp was he was having struggles processing things and completing balls at like a 40% clip.
Well if the 40% is true, that is not good. Let's remember Tommy started as a redshirt freshman and had decent completion percentage and led us into the playoffs on a shortened season. I believe Klancher started for us as a redshirt freshman. Manziel and Winston won the Heisman as redshirt freshman. Didn't Cam Miller lead the Bison deep into playoffs as redshirt freshman. Granowski led SDSU to what would have been a Championship his redshirt freshman year (they definitely would have beat Sam Houston if he didn't get hurt early in that game). So if he is struggling that much that seems concerning, but maybe once he gets it....he will be fine.
Also, if he is only completing 40 percent of his passes, he also probably wouldn't want to transfer out because would be obvious he shouldn't be the starter and he hasn't earned it yet.

USD is unproven as a top team to me. They’ve looked good, I agree, but I can’t look at a single win they have that proves they are legit yet.
Agree, hanging with Wisconsin is probably their best game so far. I do think they are good, but to know for sure if they are legit....won't know until they go to SDSU. You guys playing at USD the last game of the season will be a huge game for top playoff seedlings.

Not FCS but Ohio State screwed up and didn't take a timeout on the positive side of the two minute warning. Cost them 4 seconds....which would have been enough for them to had time for a FG attempt for the win.

Montana down 13-3 at half at home against NAU.....didn't see a 3 point first half coming in that one!

Just turned on USD game. 42 points through 3 quarters and didn't punt once. Let's see what our offense does next week after a week off against the same team.

I’ve been trying to take the optimistic look at the appearance of the offense early in the year but at this point it’s looking like it’s not an actual rpo or Simon just can’t read it at all. Idk. There have been a bunch of times where he could have scooted outside for big yards. There’s no reason for the defense to respect his legs on those plays currently.
We saw the wheels Jerry has, can you imagine him around the edge on a good read. Smith type of speed around the edge.

Don’t remember if it was the first or second possession against the Bison, but if he had kept one of them it would have been a huge gain
It almost seems like he is just handing it off instead of making a read?

As a fan I hate bye weeks
But as a team I know we need them. Hopefully then can work some things out and get healthy. May have to try and catch parts of couple of the other FCS games this weekend. Will be interesting to see how UNI does against USD, Im thinking at least a 3 score win. Idaho at MSU could be a good one.

Su had success stopping our run attack without stacking the box. Su offensive and defensive lines were better than ours. I don’t know if it is just because they are bigger and stronger or they just played better?
Iowa St. supposedly had some dudes up front.....but they ran a 3-3-5 like I think the first four teams we played did, could have something with how well we ran the ball, we matched up better against that perhaps? Might be tougher sledding running against other MVFC teams that have strong defense and run the 4-3. We'll see.

I agree. Fruechte is great hire. Would like to see him succeed Coach Schweigert
You are definitely in love with Fruechte, but after 6 games and an offense that scored 13 points total against Iowa State and NDSU....not sure if we should automatically want to anoint him as the next head coach. I like Fruechte though, but it's too early for that. Have agreed for a while though that we do need a new HC to get us to the next level, so it's not that I don't think we need a change.

Here is my take on the QB situation if the fall of 2024:
Fall camp, Romfo was probably the most consistent, got guys in the correct formations, had a better completion percentage, his passing looks pretty good, did well when put with the 2's, 3's, ad 4's. He had more experience so would be normal for him to have a better command of the offense (more experience than Jerry anyway but not Feeney) Fruechte gives Romfo the starting job. Live games, Romfo is anything but consistent and I think has had 1 turnover in ever game so far, skipping passes off the turf. Think he has skipped a pass off the turf in every game but one. 55-58% completion percentage for the year so far and just hasn't looked good. Probably not was Fruechte was expecting out of him, but he already made the decision and doesn't want to appear wishy washy and make a change. If he could take a time machine and go back, would he still have made this decision, we will never know as he would never say. But he made his decision and is sticking with it apparently. I don't think it's totally fair to assume Jerry is not very good because Romfo beat him out, I still expect good things out of Jerry if he is ever given the chance. He may have more top end speed than Romfo after watching him run down the sideline alongside Smith.
I'm not sure if it's Fruechte that is the stubborn one and not getting Jerry more live reps, or if it's Bubba. If Jerry is around next year, I think he gets the job and does well and we wonder what the heck we were doing in 2024 with him on the bench. Everyone loved Pawluck (sp) however his first year he had our OL LOSE weight, that was a big mistake and he obviously figured that out as he had them gain it all back the next year. Good coaches can and do make mistakes. I like Fruechte, but he's not above making a mistake and/or the wrong decision. I could certainly be wrong about all of this, but this is how I've felt for a couple of weeks now. It's worth noting....I have not ridden my bike by practice all year.
I will add Fruechte may truly believe Romfo gives us the best chance to win, because he is the safe choice. But after six games and putting up 13 points total against Iowa St. and NDSU, I'd be ok rolling the dice and not being so safe.

Listen to Isaac.
Paraphrasing here......He calls certain plays so that his Junior (4th year in the program) can feel comfortable, and the way it sounds there are some plays he maybe doesn't call or stays away from because our 4th year QB isn't comfortable with them yet but will eventually work them in. Got it. Sounds like something Danny may have said after he had to pluck our 4th string true freshman Tommy off the bench to come in and lead us to a win against Sam Houston.

Our offense feels like a HS offense a bit where the passing game is so inefficient and relies on hitting a random big play or two.
This. But yet we are suppose to sit around and wait until our QB gets more games under his belt as a starter. I'd rather put Jerry in now, let him learn, he will take a few lumps yes....but I'd rather see the future who has a high ceiling....than already be at the rooftop of a one story house.
Same goes for Kai....and probably Deng.

Our offense scored 3 against Iowa St. And 10 against NDSU (Bo pretty much got us 7 on his own). So 13 points in two games against good teams. Montana just gave up 55 at home to Weber. The Montana win and our offensive output in the 2nd half isn't looking as good as it once was.

I was asking myself why am I still listening, that's why. Bo is such a stud, not getting any balls so he makes his own play.

Wait Bo can’t possibly be that good since he played 9 man (Romfo played 11 for whoever keeps saying that)

Makes no sense to be playing Romfo. The game is over, give Jerry some playing time. Good grief Bubba.
But but but....it's only Romfo's 5th start. We need to excuse everything we see with our eyes and just get him some more reps

He's not to blame. But hard to say Romfo is a above average FCS QB. You ok have 60 better FCS QB's than our starting QB?

I was pretty sure our offense was smoke and mirrors.....I think that is the case. Without big passes plays we are average.

Although overall I'd say our defense is average in FCS, not below average. But average defense with the worst passing QB UND has had in 35 years....

If he doesn't complete a pass on 2nd half there will be no Jerry except mop up time when we are down by 25

The previous couple of years I think you are correct, seems like we often gave up points on the other teams first possession.
