I'm inclined to say....we beat Drake and UC Davis by a combined 10 points. I don't think we should really be "expecting" to beat another team with a winning record by 14 points. Especially a team that just knocked off a top 10 team and almost beat EWU. Don't we always tell the team to not overlook? The way all of the games played out this weekend though, we may not only have to win.....we may need to win these last two weeks with some "style" points to make the playoffs with the log jam of 7-4 teams that may occur at the end of the year. I certainly think we have the capability of beating UNC by 14 at home and hope we do, but we also have the capability of putting the ball on the turf 3 or 4 times and losing this one.
-
Man other than one of our players breaking their leg in practice during practice in the off week, that went about as bad as it could have for us with the other games.
-
We certainly are not going to be able to overlook UNC, I think it'll be another 4th quarter game for us next week.
-
You have 13 days to prepare for UNC, normally you have 6. When I said as coaches, I meant just that....just the coaches looking at Poly film ahead of time, I didn't mean you are going to be having the team out practicing and preparing for Poly over the next two weeks. But as a coach I'd think you'd want to start watching some tape on Poly now to get a head start on it, so the Sunday after the UNC game you already have a head start on your Poly film work and game plan so you can start working on it with the players as soon as possible after the UNC game. Yes if we don't beat UNC first, Poly doesn't matter. But the same thing applies, if we beat UNC but don't beat Poly, the win against UNC doesn't matter either. UNC showed they can play against EWU so we definitely can't overlook them, we will have our hands full. But I think most of us agree the Poly game will be tougher game especially on the road.

No I haven't, I don't really go on other teams boards. Given their expectations this season I imagine their fans are going pretty crazy right now. And honestly their defense is pretty darn bad, they do have some reason to be concerned and complain about things bigtime. My point is look at both UM and MSU, both long time top tier FCS programs and we have the same record as they do, but yet some people were already questioning Bubba 1.5 half years into things. Another guy saying he thinks UND will only have 53 wins over the next 10 years. Which I will take him up on that bet in a heartbeat. I think we will consistently be a top 15 program contending for conference titles and making Championship runs. We can have hockey, and we can still have a top FCS program and we are already headed in that direction. Honestly it seems fairly strange to me how poor a number of the Big Sky defenses are at times. I realize that they are often going up against high powered offenses, but I think us having a tough defense will be a separator for us in the league (I realize that we've certainly been porous at times this year though -but that will get better as we fill some needs and add depth)

Our kickoff coverage has been average at best in my opinion, seems like teams are often bringing the ball out to the 30 or 40. Maybe we'll do that higher and shorter kick that lands around the 20 or so, but then get tackled at the 30. I'd settle for them not starting past their 30 yard line. We've been fortunate and had 3-4 long returns against us get called back by penalties.
-
So as a coach on the bye week, do you take a day or two this week to look at Cal Poly film to get a head start on your defensive game plan for that? You still have a couple days this week and all of next week to prepare for UNC. I'm not totally surprised we aren't in the polls and MSU is, but I am surprised we only got one vote.
-
That face mask that wasn't called against Montana, I think that had to be the most obvious missed call I've ever seen in my lifetime of watching football. A guy is running full speed (WITH THE BALL) and he gets yanked around 180 degrees......and not a single official saw that??? How does that happen???
-
Man if we could have just hung on to win in either the ISU or Weber game, we'd control our own playoff destiny. Two more wins though and we are certainly in the discussion for the playoffs and could get in. It will be nice to be a littlie healthier going into the last two weeks, it will be important for Studs to be healthy enough to be able to run the ball.
-
Also, MSU should probably look at firing all of their coaches etc., they turned it over....couldn't stop us on offense, had two costly penalties towards the end of the game. Man they better start questioning their whole program and if they will ever have long term success. (this is sarcasm by the way, as if we would have lost that one that's what a number of people here would be saying about our coach and team)
-
Studs had some nice throws today, I think that is what I liked seeing the most. If he can continue to improve in the passing game, when he is healthy and can also run we are going to have a pretty good offense. Sure was nice having Georges back today.....2TD's, and a great run on that second TD.
-
I'm proud of the young men on our team today, they definitely made some mistakes and we missed some opportunities......but they also found a way to make some plays and found a way to win. And that was without a 100% healthy Studsrud. Giving up 38 against MSU isn't horrible in my opinion, they often put up 40 or 50.
-
That was close but looked good to me. If we lose this.....wow....unbelievable
-
Lets drive it down the field and run the clock out. It's a little tougher to run up the middle now. It's too bad Studs isn't 100%, we aren't running him at all....we could use a big run from him right now.
-
Yep......missed opportunities are going to result in another 4th quarter loss. Hoping they can somehow hang on. Need to score.
-
Nice deep pass Studsy........woohoo!!!
-
If we can keep running on them like this we'll be in good shape. Lets see what happens when they start making their adjustments though, we always start out quick on the ground.
-
I didn't see a GDT for this game so starting one for those of us watching online. At least Eversport seems to be working today.
-
I'm not sure if you are including me in this or not, but to clarify......you said Roughriders suck, and I basically said.....yeah and so does Nodaks. And sorry if I missed your other more detailed reasonings on why you think RR's sucks, I haven't been taking notes and keeping track.
-
And you don't think Nodaks sucks? I mean seriously.....Nodaks? Man we think people are making fun of us for not having a nickname..........but if we are the University of North Dakota Nodaks........I won't be able to blame them one bit for making fun of that name. I guess the people who wanted it to just stay North Dakota feel so strongly about it....that they are deciding to vote for a ridiculous nickname because it is close to North Dakota. Great logic.
-
I sent an email as well tonight, I did get a reply back from Peter saying thanks for the email, and he appreciates the feedback. My main thing I emphasized in my email was that I felt whatever the nickname that get chosen, it needs to have 50% or more of the vote.

We really need to land a stud QB. Let's face it, it's the most position in sports, and right now our QB play is probably last in the Big Sky. I'm no expert nor have I analyzed all Big Sky QB's so am kind of just saying it off the cuff, but would any of the other Big Sky teams trade their #1 QB for any of our 3?
-
Actually didn't they hire consultants whom have done this several times before? I'd think the consultants would have a pretty refined process and could have given a suggestion about declaring beforehand that if second in third are close they will go with three. It should flat out take 50% plus on whatever the final vote is for the new nickname. I think this is absolutely him changing the rules to satisfy Nodak people, and probably to ensure that it ends up being Fighting Hawks. Why a guy heading out the door gets to make this important of a decision is beyond me.

Since the medical redshirt for Joe is not an option, IF he is healthy enough (very close to if not 100%) there is no reason he shouldn't be given a chance. With Bartels play the past two weeks, if Mollberg isn't given a shot it will certainly make me question some things.
-
Good point, a lot of students are from out of state and had probably never really heard of Roughriders before.
