If I was the opposing offensive coordinator and saw how many plays Reyes was making up at the line of scrimmage, I guarantee you I'd design at least 1 or 2 plays specifically to try and take advantage of that aggressiveness and burn him deep, just like the USD coordinator did on that play. All safeties get burned deep at some point by a good play design and fake. Since Cole makes so many plays by the line of scrimmage it's just something that we'll have to look and see if he ends up getting taken advantage of more than just on a rare occasion. But believe me other offensive coordinators are going to do their best to do so.

I agree with that, most of his tackles are near the line of scrimmage, not down field. However I wonder if since he is making so many plays at the line of scrimmage and being aggressive, could that potentially leave him vulnerable to getting beat over the top? Not saying he is.......more just a question or thought.

Reyes is a great tackler, I wonder if he loves coming up and making plays against the run so much he gets a little antsy to come up and lay the wood that guys slip by him sometimes? It looked like the USD TD may have been on him but I'm not sure. Hopefully he can remain a bit more healthy though the rest of the year. If he had been healthy and played 4 quarters every game.....he'd likely be our leading tackler. Usually I don't think having a safety be your leading tackler is a good thing is it? Means the guys up front aren't making the play......however he is so good at coming up and making the tackle that is a big part of why he has so many.

I thought OL love running the ball, they should be able to get pumped for that.....running the ball down their throat to make it 4 yard plunges instead of a 1 yard plunge. 4 Yard plunges work all day long, that's what they need to get to. The line needs to get better, mean and nasty, and impose their will on the defense. I say that with a grain of salt though, there does need to be a bit more variety and improvement on some of the play calling.....but just saying.....the OL should be able to get pumped up for running the ball right down their throat!

Well that is pretty disappointing then, to me part of a coaches job is to get the players motivated and fired up! You don't have to use swear words and yell and all of that. Sure the assistant coaches can help but I view that as a prime responsibility of the head coach. Could it be that at Duluth Bubba was able to recruit great players and coach them well, but just couldn't get them fired up enough to get over the top since the next coach took his players and won a championship? Hopefully not. I do agree that the pride Bubba oozes about this University is contagious and he can certainly use speeches like that to fire the players up without swearing etc.. The speech he gave about the new logo.....I thought that was great!

When are people going to stop talking about "Bandwagon fans", whether it's NDSU or UND. Here is a news flash......ALL TEAMS HAVE BANDWAGON FANS........in every sport.....and every team. When you win more......more people want to be part of that, and this is nothing new.....it's always been that way.....can't believe so many people sit and complain about bandwagon fans. Do you think the stands at Memorial Stadium were full in the mid 80's when we sucked, that is before my time but I doubt they were. It is kind of lame that there was a mass exodus after the scholarship announcement, but since I wasn't there at the time to see exactly when it occurred.....I don't know if it was before or after it looked like we still had some hope so I won't comment too much about that. However we haven't had a strong enough winning football culture the past 4-5 years to make the average student want to stay when it looks like you are getting blown out. Let's keep winning and that will come around over time. Arguing about the fact that there are some bandwagon fans is like arguing about there being snow and cold weather in ND in the winter. It was nice to be back at UND again this weekend and to a game......it's been a long time since I've been to a game. Unfortunately I did have to leave at the end of the 3rd quarter to make it to a banquet (I already skipped the social hour and stayed as long as I could). I wish I could have seen the 4th quarter because just seeing the first three didn't leave a good taste in my mouth walking out of the Alerus. I'm so glad we came back and won as we needed that W, but we obviously have a lot to work on and I think every game we play in will likely be close going into the 4th quarter. The line and blocking up front is struggling so much right now I don't think we can be consistent enough to blow out anybody. I'm not even sure what the heck to think for the game next week against MT St.

I was in section 207 and everybody was standing up and yelling in the first half and most of the 3rd period. Crowd noise also caused that false start by USD down by their own goal line in the first half, and it also caused them to burn a timeout in the 3rd period. At least where I was sitting I think people were yelling pretty loud every single 3rd down.

We were fortunate enough to have Brad Berry give us a tour of the new locker rooms etc. this morning, and he let us ask questions as well and somebody asked about Sioux and the logo. He knows Sioux isn't coming back (and I'm sure isn't crazy about the new nickname), but he did show us that the new goaltender mask was just finished and it does have Fighting Hawks on it. I think he knows that in time they will somewhat have to accept it, but he did say it's very important to remember the Sioux history and where they came from. He said they have to order their jerseys about a year in advance, so there wouldn't be anything on them this year obviously. He didn't say anything along the lines that it wouldn't have Fighting Hawks on it in the future.

Every other running play the RB has to juke a defender two yards in the backfield.....this may be a very long year unless drastic.....drastic improvement is made.
-
Hey buddy, tell that joker on your board that thinks you will score 45 points on us that I will take the bet. You and your USD board seem pretty cocky for a team that giving up 4.5 points on the spread. I think it will be a good game, but hopefully you'll be man enough to come back here if you lose.... which if you look at the history...m doesn't bode well for you.
-
Yeah their QB did look pretty good on a few of the clips from last week I saw, looks like he can throw the ball pretty well too. Just got into GF.....time to head for some food and drinks.
-
Can you tell the guy on that board that thinks they will score 45 on us, that I'd like to bet my house on that.....as long as he has a comparable house to offer up. They are not scoring 45 on us, no way.
-
Perhaps we should start a new thread (or maybe there is one already)........called North Dakota born athletes.....and we can discuss him in there, so we can just think of him as a ND boy, not an NDSU guy. I like to try and think of him as a Bismarck kid, not an NDSU player even though that is very hard at times.....just makes it easier to deal with mentally for me since I can't stand NDSU and their bragging. Sioux Rube can post his weekly stats, and give us weekly tid bits on Wentz like what he likes to eat before big Monday Night Football games etc. Then all of the NDSU posters can come to the UND board....since we know they love it over here...... and talk about Wentz....the Bismarck boy. His first game was against Cleveland, but it was still a pretty impressive start for him....especially since he didn't see many snaps in the preseason.

There were a couple of posts on that USD board from guys who seemed realistic and expected it to be close, and one guy even picked UND to win. Of course there were some other ones that feel pretty confident going into the game, but I think that is pretty normal for a game that is evenly matched.....for each fan base thinking they will prevail in the game. Pretty sure we may have looked a bit arrogant to SB fans who came and read our page, although most of us knew that game would be a tough game and said SB is no push over leading up to that game, I think we all predicted a UND win except for one person. With that said.....I'm really looking forward to beating them and pissing them off, especially the way they talk about ND in general. They also talked about the huge difference between Big Sky and MVFC, which there has been in the past but themselves and NDSU had to go to OT to win last week......and they were both the home teams. The gap may be shrinking between the conferences.....and this is the year to prove it.
-
I guess it goes to show that talk about some transfers, whether FBS, JUCO or whatever.......well heck even some recruits......you just never know until they are actually listed on the roster come game day if they are going to be there. Dissappointing that he is no longer with the team, but nature of the beast I guess. Maybe his personal situation will change and he could come back, but obviously wouldn't......and can't count on it.
-
^^^This You can tell by other things that he said that he doesn't respect our team, I mean when he says they should have thrown for school record on us....seriously what an ass hat. Can you imagine if we played a DII school and it went down the to the wire....Bubba saying we should have pass or thrown for a school record against the team? That makes me pissed all over again about missing that two point conversion.....would have loved to watch him cry even more if he had lost. "That's one of those games where we should be sitting up here talking about James throwing for 600 yards and breaking the school record," said Jinks

I thought somebody had said a while back there was going to be a 30 minute football show, dedicated solely to football during the season like there use to be back in the 90's. Does that not start this year?
-
I think so too. As much as I'd like to see us win comfortably, I think it will still be a game going into the 4th quarter.
-
I'm flying up from AZ and will be at the game. But I can't profess that I am flying up just for the game......will be up there for a reunion, however having a home game this weekend helped seal the deal on coming back. I am super excited about going to a game in person.....it's been a while! After being down 14-0 last week and three straight 3 and outs and it looked like might be a blow out......I was already a little disappointed that the game this coming week may not be that exciting given a loss to SB and a blow out loss to BG. We still lost to BG but did play well after that and left hope (in my eyes) for the season, I'll be cheering loud to do my part......let's get some false starts!!!
-
Whatever ones are left.....lets give to OL and speedy WR's
-
Playoffs are not out the window. There aren't ANY guaranteed wins in the 9 remaining games, but I think it's possible we can go 7-2 or 8-1 the rest of the way. Doesn't mean we will, but it's certainly not totally unrealistic.......or season out the window.
-
Somebody posted the week before the SB game that our gaurds just didnt' have it.......seems like he was on to something there. BG isn't suppose to be good against the run and we can't get anything going. Hopefully just like the last two years the OL will make huge strides during the year.......if not it's going to be a very so so year.
-
We seem to be just a shell of that team played the last 3 games last year. 10 points in 6 quarters. It's like Ground Hogs day.......our offense has just stunk to start the year the last 3 years.....outside of the WY game.
-
My audio is about 5 minutes behind the board.....so haven't been following on here until halftime. Not sure if anybody mentioned....but maybe we should be giving Brady the ball more this game....seems like he had some success? Man that BG TD to end the half was a killer.....ugh.
-
I will be watching and hoping for the upset.......but a hurry up, throw the ball FBS team just isn't a good matchup for our secondary so I'll say 38-24 BG.
