Sounds dumb that's why it shouldn't be picked
Thank you, Darell, for succinctly summing up the reason why any and all replacement names thought of thus far shouldn't be picked.

Since we're splitting hairs, unless he's on kickoff or kick return special teams, he'll be across the field to open the season.

Decided to take the time to skim it. The above phrase is the only thing that really made sense.
I thought it was a good reply to John Johnson's article , which was a fluff piece that put words in people's mouths, with no facts.

Thanks guys. Very interested to see how this last week goes.

Long Beach State is "The Beach".
I'm kind of liking "Tundra". It fits the North Dakota image -- Vast. Imposing. Unsurvivable.
Brought to you by the good folks at Toyota.

Some of hammers best..... or worst....
Grimaldo
McMilliams
Juydne Myorken (Rube Bjorkman) and thats as best as anyone can symbolize with the English Alphabet the sounds he made on that one.
There have been alot more too....I can understand the team coming in for the weekend having a couple of sylable manglers but damn.
I think the reason I catch more mistakes from Hammer than Sweeney, is because when the action got fast and furious Sweeney's voice got so high my Golden Retriever was the only one in the room capable of hearing any mispronunciations.
Hammer's doing pretty good.... He's improved a lot.

They better make sure he heads straight north on I-29 when he lands at Hector tomorrow afternoon.
Exactly. With this south wind, don't want him stuck smelling the ndsu hog barn for too long.

http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/3661197-letter-ncaa-not-villain-nickname-issue
Just an opinion piece from the herald. So und was given the same ultimatum as Florida state? Then why did und need to get multiple tribes' approval? Not exactly the same offer. Florida state also has more money to offer their one tribe. And how can this guy say und had done little to pay the sioux people for using the name? Wow!
As long as you agree with a newspaper's opinion, they'll print your piece no matter how inaccurate it is.
The editorial opinion piece written a few days ago made so many assumptions, and was so weak in its reasoning, it was actually funny.
UND Lemmings, here we come.

Graduation isn't about your culture; it's about graduating from said school.
They might as well affix a can of worms to the top of each mortarboard.

Why not? Slippery Rock is "The Rock".
I didn't realize Slippery Rock's nickname was Rock. interesting......
From what's being concocted for punishment in regard to UND staying with just North Dakota..... Why isn't Slippery Rock facing sanctions for not having a nickname that differs from their university name? where is the ncaa on this matter!!!!?!?!?

Yes, but what's a bUNDuster?
Someone making homemade buns, might dust them with flour before putting in the oven.
Or, I just saw a slang definition, says it's a really long fart... So, it may not make the final list of 5 name choices.

If you want to nit pick back when the school was started (around 1962) a Valiant was a car brand (I know that had nothing to do with them picking Valiant) ironic that I have connections to that school.
Go Brave!
We used to make fun of them for not knowing what a noun is. :-)

When Coach Jones was on with Tim&Swyg this morning, he said Cashman suffered a concussion during a rebounding drill at practice a couple weeks back.
I find that hard to believe.

Technically it's an adjective that would be turned into a noun - groundbreaking
I think the Central Valley Valiants beat you to it.....but, inventing words, or changing their meanings, is probably the best chance of coming up with a never before used nickname if that is the objective.

I have no idea wtf is going on in this thread.
It appears to be an exercise in determining a mathematical model to decide whose penis is smaller, based on variables including but not limited to:
Fans, miles traveled, regular season home attendance, regular season away attendance, post season attendance, minor league player percentages, professional league player percentages, FBS popularity, professional salaries, Nielsen ratings, sagarin ratings, local tv appearances, regional tv appearances, national tv appearances, arena sizes, and last but not least: shoe sizes.

Laudable for you; however, many in the "no nickname" camp really are for it for the specific reason you cite: to be able to continue using the old one (and think or feel like they are "stickin' it to the man!").
One morning the NCAA attorneys will:
- wake up,
- find that a Power 5 school has a scandal brewing,
- need a distraction for the media from that,
- realize that they've been played by those hick in fly-over North Dakota,
- pull out their copy of the Settlement Agreement,
- highlight the word "new",
- make a statement about "not selecting a new nickname is fostering a hostile and abusive environment" which is what the Policy and the Settlement were to prevent,
- put UND back under the Policy,
- and put out a press release about it.
The media lackeys will miss the P5 scandal story and instead write about how the NCAA is serious about "diversity and inclusion" and how they are rightly slapping down those contract-breaking rube hicks that are still fostering a hostile and abusive environment by not taking the last step in retiring their terrible nickname.
Grandiose? Boisterous? Preposterous? Really? Uh ... the same type of scenario got us ... here.
I change my vote:
Here come your University of North Dakota Fear Mongerers!!

No need to be a jerk. You're the one who used the words "interlocking ND" and "unique." Ain't no "context" gonna fix that.
I apologize for coming off as a jerk. For the record it seemed as if you were too, by only quoting half my sentence and drawing an inaccurate conclusion that was not based on the context of my post.
Yes, the context. Lol
-
Except that the interlocking ND is not unique. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Wow. I can't believe I need to spell out the context of my remark, which you decided to quote, but conveniently left out the majority of the sentence. But, here goes: Being known as ND, with no nickname, is what is unique. SMH

Which school has gone without a nickname?
The Sioux name is gone and never coming back. I don't quite understand why people will think they are cool for saying they are going to continue to cheer for the "Sioux" and wear the "Sioux" logo and yell "Sioux" during the national anthem? What does that get you - does it make you feel better about yourselves while you're driving around in a big truck?
I thought the old name was awesome. But its gone and a new one is coming. The same one that will be on all the jerseys and merchandise. I think I will support this one.
again, not my stance. read my previous posts if you're interested in my opinion
