  1. An extra million? Your math is a little off. This will likely only affect single game tickets, which last I heard is somewhere around 4,000. Though it would be a cherry on top if the raised their season tickets in 2015 and 2019 and further stuck it to their own fan base, a group who we keep being told by and large don't want the game (though I don't believe it for one second).

I'll give you that UND took a lower guarantee than they should have with the stipulation that the net money they receive won't be far off from what they could get elsewhere due to limited travel costs required for the game, meaning FU ended up with the savings. Bubba insisted on the game(s) and he got them. Going to be a good test to see where his defense stacks up and how far the offense has come. Being the third game of the season, most of the small kinks will hopefully be ironed out.

Sorry- thought that would be reflected in their season ticket prices as well for a nice $25 x 19000+ bump for this game, and similar for 2019.

  2. They'll be enjoying an extra million dollars in ticket sales while eating that crow by the time this two game series is done. Plus, they're paying way too little for the games themselves. UND really George Costanza'd this deal.

  3. Winning champinships requires a unique level of mental toughness, and an attitude of sacrifice, and not being entitled. Yes, the two programs are not apples to apples.

Oh, I get it now. You're saying UND hockey players are not mentally tough, put themselves above the team, and are entitled, thus the programs are not apples to apples.

    Go home troll breath.

  4. So let me see if I have this straight.... The people wanting to remain nickname - less are chastised for the effects it will have on merchandising.... because the people that want a new nickname will then refuse to continue to support UND merchandise sales? Got it .

    Pot, meet kettle.

  5. If we don't pick something, something will happen and someone (probably without UND's best interests in mind) will find a less than completely complimentary tag to stick on us. (See: the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers)

I'm sure our wonderfully helpful neighbors to the south are working feverishly to fill the void that'd be open in a "no nickname" world.

I'm no rocket scientist (as if you needed clarification) but I'm pretty sure the sexually indifferent sons to the south of us will find a way to make fun of any new nickname, if one is chosen.

Hell, they're even invited to take part in the nickname process.  That alone makes this entire naming process FUBAR.

  6. I understand your passion, Fetch, but much like the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York baseball Giants, the Baltimore Colts, the Houston Oilers, the Quebec Nordiques, the Seattle Sonics, the Los Angeles Rams, the Buffalo Braves, the Minnesota North Stars, and countless other teams like them, eventually, people move on.

These are mostly examples of professional teams leaving a town.  I would guess if UND gave Grand Forks the finger and left town, the odds of people moving on would be increased, as there would be no team left here to cheer for.

  7. One thing that is continuing to stay the same is the dismal performance of your sports teams. 2014-15 has to go down as the worst in UND history. Besides hockey ALL the rest have failed. Please keep Faison around for a long time.

And we thank you, Bison Dung, for your continued interest in Sioux sports.

  8. I'm having a hard time deciding which nickname choices to submit.  I've narrowed it down to three categories, with three choices within each category:

Category #1:   War-based fighting groups that never set foot in North Dakota, and have no historical influence on our state:

                           A:     Roughriders

                           B:     Russian Red Army

C:     Isis    (at least I hope they're not here)

Category #2:   Local Electric Power Cooperatives

                           A:     Nodaks

                           B:     Sheyenne Valleys

                           C:     Ottertails

    Category #3:   Dumb sounding rhymes:

                            A:    North Dakota Nokotas

                            B:    North Dakota Togas

                            C:    North Dakota Abe Vigodas

On second thought, I think i'll go with just remaining as North Dakota- no crazy nickname needed.

  9. If I were Faison, I would not allow Jones to hire another assistant from the outside for next season, unless somebody else leaves. Promote Horner, and maybe add a grad assistant. I know of at least three other Big Sky schools that get by with three assistants: http://www.msubobcats.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball#coaches_anchor

Under the circumstances, that would seem to be the prudent move.

I agree. As a rule of thumb, division 1 victories per year should be greater than the number of paid basketball staff. I believe this is the expectation standard we currently have in place. Aiming high indeed.

  10. Maybe the fact that Texas has been at the same DI level for many years, including the entire 17 years that Barnes was the coach might make the situation different.  And the fact that the performance of the program at Texas has declined the last several years might also factor in.  Barnes took the Longhorns to the Sweet Sixteen 5 times during his first 10 years, including 3 trips to the Elite Eight and once to the Final Four.  They haven't made it to the Sweet Sixteen since 2008.  2008 was also the last year they won a regular season conference title.  That might be a little different than a program that has only been a full Division 1 program for 3 years.  Not to mention the fact that the Texas athletic department in one of the richest in college athletics.  Not exactly comparing apples to apples situations.

Certainly.   Not disagreeing with that at all.  The problem here is the lame brain contract extension Jones was given after underperforming with an extremely talented group a couple years ago.

Hoopster seems to think he is "right" about Jones being a good coach since he's still here.   In reality, the only reason Jones is still here is the inexcusable contract extension he was given, and the athletic department is unwilling and unable to buy it out.

  11. Logical post.... Some folks cannot understand that the flagship school in Texas paid their basketball coach 2.2 million a year Top  Ten NCAA D1 Salary... UND pays 100k. A Bottom ten NCAA D1 Salary....  For a TOP TEN  salary in the NCAA..... having a sub 500 record in conference play is not good.  Barnes conference winning % same... as Jones last 3 years....Again I am right as I have said all along conference play greatly trumps non conference play...no matter how much a handful of uninformed people do not like it

Yet Barnes is fired, and Jones gets to continue "coaching" to the dismay of anyone who knows anything about basketball.   Thanks for proving our point.

  12. With all you law experts out there I cant believe we can't go back to the old flicker tails logo. What is as harmless as a rodent?

There is no way the ncaa won't let us go back to that logo so there is also no way we can't just use the ND logo

Correct.  The ND logo could become the primary logo, with variations of it used as well if desired.   the "ND" could be considered the new nickname as well as the logo.    As an example of something similar, Slippery Rock University uses the nickname/logo of the "rock".     They seem to get along just fine using part of their school's name, as their nickname, with no punishment or scare tactics from the ncaa.

  13. Other than the fact that GV is DII, have no intention of moving, and would require 5 years to transition . . . Ya perfect. GV owns und, so that would be another reason for und to stay out of the SL/MVFC.

So you must also feel UND owns the fargodome.

  14. Is Nodak Electric power cooperative on board with Nodaks?   I would hope something a little more inventive could be chosen if going with no nickname is officially ruled out.   Any nickname that starts with no, sounds suspect.  Nodaks....rejecting daks, or the absence of daks....   If we're going down that road, how about the Nosioux instead?   Sioux no no...... No Sioux Sioux!!

No daks, no kotas, no Sioux.... no problem.

  15. 100 percent agree. but i dont think we will have the option of no nickname. and i really havent heard anybody say they HATE Rough Riders. but i have heard many people say they HATE basically everything else thats being thrown out there. Its not the best option, but its the only option that everyone will be able to live with and might gain traction.. my opinion

    Am I invisible? Lol

Just for the record, yet again, for the thousandth time on here for reasons I've already discussed ad nauseum, I HATE Roughriders. (Sigh). that felt good.
