  1. That section doesn't deny athletic scholarships.

And isn't the saying "ask for forgiveness later?"

I know NDSU can easily plead stupid and we would believe it, but maybe it just opened new scholarship money for our athletic department.

"projects dedicated to the advancement of enhanced academics, including...."

How do you interpret this as having anything to do with athletics?

  2. I am a Kelly Green and White guy in a big way. Guess i don't know how being supportive of the current basketball team, thinking I would like the Summit/MVFC conference better (def. not the only UND fan that thinks that), and wishing UND would've raised money from the challenge grants for athletic scholarships because others did would put me on the NDSU side of things?

Fair enough, I just had to ask.    I don't understand why you're wishing UND would've raised money for the grants designated towards athletic scholarships.... because the letter of the bill said it was designated for Academic funding.

Are nerds benching 95lbs. and running a 6.7 40 getting academic scholarships to play football at Minot, Dickinson, and ndsu now?   If so that's news to me.

  3. Based on posts in the last 24 hours of wanting to quell any talk of improving the men's basketball teams coaching staff, and then wishing upon a star UND was in the better Summit and MVFC conferences, and now defending ndsu's clear misuse of funding intended for academics....I feel I gotta ask you, nodakhoops.....

    What color is your underwear?

  4. Your fight is with state of ND and the people who approved it.  Too bad no UND alumni thought enough of your athletic dept to donate funds to it for this purpose.  Are you going to whine about the 4 NC's too as it's a great recruiting advantage.

What are you talking about?   Read the bill.

  5. I'm waiting for the legislature to say that the funds were misused, and that a violation occurred related to how these funds were specified.   I'm not going to hang my hat on a Rob Port article.   What do you thinks Portly's intentions were in writing this article?   No way he writes that article if UND were involved, and everyone here knows that.   He's the head of propaganda train for everything und, and is without credibility from what I've seen him pen, and not pen.

Or, you could just read the bill yourself, linked in post #178 of this thread.......   I have to warn you though, it's 4 pages long.

  6. OK, guys – this is not a question meant to “pile on” the Fire Jones bandwagon, just a legitimate question to those who follow UND basketball closely:

Can you remember specific situations over the last few years where you are confident that coaching decisions won a game(s) for us?

    ,

No.   But I can recall several times, admiring the adjustments made at halftime by the other team, while we either give up a lead, or fall further behind.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing time and time again, expecting different results.   We are 9 years into this experiment and there are still people saying let's wait and see what he can mold this next crop of players into.   Last year's squad was the perfect example of his coaching abilities.   A team with tons of experience and the most talent across the board I have ever seen at UND.   The results?   Did not beat a single team we weren't expected to beat, failed to show up for some games, played down to the level of our competition, and another ho hum .500 record.

Maybe my opinion is biased by the style of basketball which Jones preaches, which I consider almost unwatchable.   Possession of the basketball is not considered important, boxing out is optional, and playground style offense and defense take preference over any sort of structure and teamwork.

This current group plays hard.  Harder than last year's team.   They've got talent.  But they are not talented enough to play this rag tag style of basketball and win.

  7. The bottom line for me is . . . would the Portly One have written this article if Minot, Dickenson and UND had all used these funds for this athletic purpose, and ndsu had not?   That answer is a resounding NO, he would have seen no need to write that one.   The intentions of this article is to smear NDSU, and for no other purpose.  Nice picture on the article Mr. Portly.   I'm looking forward to your article on the recent arrest of a track athlete at UND, and who's head should roll on that travesty.

So you're justifying ndsu.  minot, and Dickinson's misuse of funding  based on who reported it on a blog?    Interesting set of values you have down there.
