  1. Thunder's a nice name, but not gonna happen with the Thundering Turds to the south.   they play Thunderstruck all the time down there for introductions, etc.

Just another part of the problem trying to come up with a "new" name when we are 100 years late to the deciding-what-our-nickname-should-be-party....  all the good names are taken.

  2. So put up ur top 10 & I bet most would say the same about 9 out of 10

    It is what it is

    IT SUCKS !!!

This is exactly what a lot of the "let's just move on" people fail to grasp.    Out of everyone that says ok fine let's pick a new name.... how many of those people are under the delusion that the name picked is going to be one they actually like?

Step 1:  Come out with a list of names to choose from.   Result--  a bunch of people say hey wait a minute- I don't like any of these choices- let's just stay with no name.    Meanwhile another group of people are still ok with the process because their name is still on the list.

Step 2:   New name is chosen, and a small percentage is happy because their choice for a name is the one picked.   But now a large majority are ticked because none of their favored names were chosen- and they now feel like it would be better to stay with no name....but sorry, too late.

Choosing a new name is an exercise in self-inflicted torture where the end result is a vast majority are not going to be happy.

  3. Well that didn't take long.. 50% hair cut for UND and FU only and specific language against athletic scholarships. And of course they will take it as the legislature is out to get them unbelievable how tone def the FU leadership is...

NOTE: This is not the final bill - just the house version... more to come.

The House voted 76-16 last week to pass House Bill 1151, renewing the Higher Education Challenge Fund on the condition that funds are no longer available for athletic scholarships.

50% hair cut - FU/UND - all other schools no change.

and the amount designated for FU and the University of North Dakota would be cut to $5 million each, down from twice that. The other nine colleges would again receive $1 million each.

So.... Thanks to FU's complete ineptitude, both universities get punished if this goes thru.

  4. I'll answer a question with a question.

What are the odds a new coach does better than Jones?

Unless you pay good money to somehow bring in a proven coach which is very unlikely....you get an unproven coach that all you can do is hope pans out....just like hiring Jones.

Nobody knew who Jones was and I don't think he was on anyone's top list of finalists (except the AD I guess).

UND could easily get a coach worse than Jones.

You're asking people to predict the future.

To paraphrase Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation...... "Worse?!  How could it get any worse?!   Take a look around!  We're at the threshold of Hell!"

  5. I'm confused why he was not in more than what he was.  I would have had him in for DeReon.

I don't think you're the one that's confused....  How about we have Hooker be Player/Coach next year?

De Reuen  seems to pick the worst possible moments to throw up a wild three or a wild 1 on 3 drive to the basket and kill the momentum.

  6. Its hard to quantify "development" because you don't know what their ceiling is. I would say Huff and Anderson developed pretty well. He got every last ounce out of Wilmer.

More for me, and maybe it ties into what you are saying, is have they ever beat a team they shouldn't have or have they ever over-achieved as a TEAM? Who knows, just random thoughts. :0

Defensively, they could have been WAY better.

You're correct- they have rarely pulled off an upset.

This year- a lot of close games, usually end up on the losing end. Why? Other teams value possession, time management, and play situational basketball. UND? From what I've seen, the last 2 minutes are mostly just business as usual regardless of score, with Foghorn Leghorn running around barefoot flapping his wings yelling I say, I say I think there should've been a foul called there.

  7. It was nice to see a summary of the recruits over the years.... however.....  regardless of who stayed, who played, and how well they played....   my contention is Jones does not develop whoever the players are, to their full potential.  2011-2014 being the prime example.   Wins are gotten purely on athleticism and shooting well.  There is no discipline.    The players are not put in a position to succeed.   As has been said a million times by gfhockey- these teams just play street ball.

How many coaches around the country could not have led last years' team to a .500 overall record?   How many coaches could not have mustered a 10th place finish in the Big Sky this year?   I guess I just don't understand the passion to hang on to mediocrity, especially 9 years into this experiment.

  8. Jones was just on Tim and swig

Some of the these that came out of his mouth were funny

Said they been in every game this year but in (una)

Also pretty much gaurenteed a top finish next year.

Is he going on a sabbatical that we don't know about yet?

  9. Yeah, it's too bad there's that permanent frontal boundary between Grand Forks and Fargo that keeps it cold in the northern valley and sooooo much warmer in the southern valley. :silly:

  10. This team hasn't run an offense for 9 years. Out shooting your opponent is the only way you even have a chance to win playing this way.

There's no communication on defense, either. Sac state runs actual plays with good ball movement- they had open shots all night.

I've said it before and agree with it being brought up again here earlier today-- there's little to no improvement over the course of a career here. We saw evidence of that over the previous 4 years.

  11. I think we have 3 freshman bigs that will be good players in Cashman, Shanks, and Shields. Shanks kind of took the weekend off on this trip though.....

I agree. A year of getting stronger and quicker will make a huge difference for those long guys.
