In theater this is a Diamond in the rough….someone new in town who has never been in the local theater with minimal experience. A good coach can see the potential and make them productive players.

The dollars rolling around amaze me. The signing in day ( in ??Feb) closed the deal. Now, even after the early signing day, players are recommitting and going elsewhere. Why? More money? Following one of the 100 M coaches who are moving? The media makes money off this too… each paper and each click of the mouse/finger. I read somewhere that the LearField (that I love and listen to for free) made $330 M off college football alone. Not sure that is fact checked. Like I said, maybe we should go back to Memorial Stadium and sit outside. Remember what Japan’s General Yamamoto said after Pearl Harbor? “ I fear all we have done is to waken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

I am always impressed with anyone who is able to get ADMITTED to a military academy. Anyone who survives that first year is TOUGH. The only experience I had with a football coach from one was that he made basic training g look like a cake walk.

My whole point is that none of us are in a position to make these decisions, none of us. And none of us are in a position to determine if the right people are indeed in the positions.

And loves ice fishing????

Maybe we could just hire UND FB FAN full time to be head coach since he has all the answers. My point: life is not that simple and hindsight is 20/20. People in the right positions need to make decisions….not necessarily fans.

Not sure about that…maybe. With recruits, transfer portal, and NIL some colleges are like big employers with technology databases and such. When you gone, your gone. I was a federal employee at a VA. Everyone knew…. Your last day. Come at 8 am, call IT that you are done, turn in your keys and walk out the door by 8:20!

It seems every college team has people coming and going….very few retirements. Same with that transfer portal. Many have 1 year of eligibility and transfer…? Better NIL or NFL exposure.

So where are we with the good, the bad, and the ugly with the transfer portal? Seems some schools are jumping in with both feet and others somewhat holding back. Would 24 hours from now tell us more?

I agree…a couple of years ago I sat at the 50 yard line, row 12 at the USD game. I posted here… bad karma from everyone, no talking, no high fives…. Just bad juju all around. Coaches, players, assistants…wow. By the end of the season I knew why.

Well, sometimes the portal can “hide” things. A school expresses interest in a great sounding player. Then someone (?media) does some research and finds certain indiscretions in the players background. All that glitters is not gold.

And pretty soon we will be D3…..

As always I agree with you. And thanks for your wisdom about how the transfer portal and NIL have already changed college sports. I would not contribute to NIL either; I would for student athletes for educational expenses!

Well I am surprised hockey folks are not rabid about this wait and see. And I was once a very rabid hockey mom. time to get ‘ER done and yes I have some concerns going forward with this whole NIL thing.

So no one answered my question: how much money does UND have for NIL? What group, non-profit?, is advertising for and collecting funds? The Minneapolis paper says PJFleck is looking for someone with $1M for the NIL fund for his new QB…whomever that will be. Other colleges are offering up to $2M for QBs. So that is how NIL has changed college sports. Wonder why Tommy entered the transfer portal? Why Bison are entering it? All this talk of new coaches, recruiting, and facilities needs $$$$$. Someone posted we need to clean house from the ground up. At first I was offended (somewhat). When I see these dollars floating around, I wonder.
