Pryor may be attempting to get someone to replace Merseli. They both are listed as OH, but are really rover types. The typical OH only plays in the front row, but they seem much more mobile full time players including defense in the back row. UConn had a new coach last season, so it wasn't the same situation she signed for.
-
That's the very point. If Denver added sports to fit in with their conference, it would screw up existing single sport conference relationships. If Men basketball as good and helped RPI, DU would be much more in demand.
-
Those schools are not AAU members, which are prestigious research schools. You have to take it up with the AAU. Their Presidents are always fighting to get in.
-
Ariz St, Oregon St, Wash St, and Utah wouldn't be in the PAC12 as their research levels are much lower than the rest of the PAC, but the PAC wanted numbers for TV eyeballs.
-
Denver was nearly expelled by the Sun Belt because DU didn't comply with the Belt's new requirement that a school had to sponsor 12 sports that the conference did. DU didn't change sports one lick and went to the WAC for a season and then got out. The WCC doesn't want to send their water polo and rowing teams to Colorado regardless if DU offered it. The problem DU has is their bb teams are bad so no medium power conference wants them. Almost all their other sports like soccer, gymnastics, skiing, lacrosse and of course hockey are national powers.
-
Never said that they are absolutely tied to the Summit. Denver really pines for the WCC but won't get in until Gonzaga an BYU leave. The MVC has visited UMKC too and that visit went over like U N O visit did. They both gave tours in a lead balloon apparently.
-
Well it is not happening today. UND will leave the Big Sky because Denver and Omaha are important allies. They will stick together. Duluth, Mankato and St Cloud can join DI and not be left behind.
-
Longer term, if Ariz St, UNLV and other western teams get in, the MAC schools will leave and probably Duluth and St Clown. UND and Omaha would have to decide if they want to stay west, which I think they would. Mankato and other could end up in a Norther Sun hockey league if more school like Mary and Minot start it.

President Kennedy Comments on HPC Phase II
SiouxVolley replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
The school to keep an eye on is the U of Mary. They have established the Gary Tharaldson school of business and seem to branch out into every major. Tharaldson is still living and supposedly is ND richest person at nearly a billion. Mary already has an endowment over $50 mill, and is still young as it only started like in 1960.- 205 replies

President Kennedy Comments on HPC Phase II
SiouxVolley replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
T Denny Sanford just gave $30 million in scholarships to seven S Dakota schools and 5 more national schools like Arizona St and U Minnesota. NDSU was not on his list so he must have found them somewhat repugnant even though Sanford Heath gave them bucks.- 205 replies

President Kennedy Comments on HPC Phase II
SiouxVolley replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
Their are now rumors that a school like LaSalle will change conferences from the A-10 as they have a pittance for an endowment even though they are located in Philadelphia. Grinnell has $1.8 billion in endowment, as a graduate was the founder of Intel, a multibillion dollar company. Corporations sometimes match gifts to a certain dollar amount, but usually a donor gives stock, but a corporation would laugh at that. NDSU has too many farmers and ranchers, who don't give land to anyone but keep it in their family. UND's grads for the most part have much more disposable wealth, so they more freely give.- 205 replies

Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Texas have more than triple the endowment of U of Chicago. Michigan has a greater endowment than either. Grinnell College in Iowa has over a billion, so guess all the corporations there are responsible. Most endowments are funded by individual's that made very wise and breathtaking rises in net worth often by founding a company.- 205 replies

UND (7-13, 2-6) @ Idaho (13-7, 5-3) 1/27 9 PM
SiouxVolley replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Thanks for the updates SWMn. Watching the game before the 2nd half meltdown. This team badly needs more weapons down low. -
http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/jan/27/before-leaving-bill-chaves-reflects-on-positive-ti/ Chaves wasn't a fundraiser to the EWU admin's satisfaction. Hence a parting the ways with each side saving face according to the Spokesman-Review. Think Kennedy knows he needs performance out of an AD, not fundraing ability, because the money is coming.
-
Lynn Hickey, formerly the AD at UTSA, was named interim AD at EWU.

Rather amazing how many Nat Gas plants are going up in and near McKenzie County, almost a billion dollars worth of plants and collection pipelines. Crestwood MLP is building one. OneOK is adding on to one in Killdeer Oasis is building a huge one Targa Resources / Hess Midstream is building a large one. Watford City's growth just won't stop. ND needs to have more gas pipelines built soon, as the ones that exist are almost all full.

UND (7-12, 2-5) @ EWU (9-11, 4-3) 1/25 8:05 PM
SiouxVolley replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Just wonder if Chaves was responsible for getting the European big men that EWU always seems to have. -
Ariz St can select a dog catcher as their next coach and that won't matter. Any P5 school in the West will almost automatically be invited as long as they have a 4000 seat arena. Miami and WMU will be given vastly reduced exit fees if new teams arent to their liking. The exit fees were put in place to avoid a Big Ten raid and to avoid adding Bemidji St or Upper Peninsula teams.

UND will probably encounter teams that went 2-0 against them in the tournament. But that could be a blessing in disguise. -
In Tennessee, could just as well shut down the Sonics here when it is less than 50 degrees. Nobody wants their cold drinks and shakes until it warms up. Grand Forks has a longer winter.
-
UNLV has a shot if it starts hockey soon. But two more western teams would really irk WMU and Miami. Mankato is the fall back school.

Looks like the plan on tearing down Witmer and adding on to Hyslop. The Business school would be attached to Merrifield and Montgomery, not across University.- 205 replies

Congrats on the new arena, assuming the Board approves it. Seen talk in the East Valley Tribune that Sun Devil Stadium is interested in hosting hockey games in the winter. UND would be a good opponent for attracting fans. Suspect UND, Denver, and CC will be pushing for Sun Devil NCHC membership as soon as the season it is built.
-
It's like putting up billboards in MSP for UND, which many here insist UND should do more.

Five years ago they talked about a new business college where Chandler Hall was by the coulee. A decision was made for University for greater visibity so Strinden Hall and nearby buildings were razed. The Foundation seems to have learned from the Engelstad situation to announce major athletic gifts with an academic component.- 205 replies
