  1. Ill St and MVC fans seem happy with B Jones. https://www.mvcfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5326
  2. Rumors are that Boren, being a politician, helped himself and friends to helpings of OU's students among other things. https://nondoc.com/2019/03/26/ou-grad-alleges-david-boren-tripp-hall-sexual-battery/ The new Prez was an OU law school grad and former exec at a petrochemical company. He knows how to dig OU out, but not how to deal with the politician end of it. Boren doesn't want the new Prez around anymore.
  3. Williston is expected to grow to 50k just based on current conditions. https://www.kfyrtv.com/content/news/Latest-Williston-population-projections--509796091.html
  4. The MIAC has only lost UMD permanently in 1975, as its the academic powerhouse DIII conference for Minnesota. Minn-Morris could join, but apparently chooses not to, staying with the low rated Upper Midwest Conference. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Intercollegiate_Athletic_Conference https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Midwest_Athletic_Conference Still believe that St Thomas wants out, and one President granted their wish in writing. St Thomas is no different than Creighton, Marquette, DePaul etc and could be a future Big East member depending on its athletic performance. The MVC is easily reachable for a private school like it is in a big market.
  5. Looks like St Thomas needs to find another conference: http://m.startribune.com/augsburg-president-believes-consensus-exists-to-remove-st-thomas-from-miac/509752432/
  6. The Big Sky releases its football schedule for the next four years. Must be getting close to a shakeup as UND issued its MVFC schedule too. How’s Dixie St going to manage? https://bigskyconf.com/news/2019/5/6/football-big-sky-release-2020-2023-conference-schedules.aspx
  7. Not expecting anything tomorrow, but three to four years is possible. Hess still has a contract to sell ethane to Alberta for a couple more years and convert that pipeline into propane or reverse it for ethane, The OneOK plants would need to put in ethane condensers and then build a combined ethane concentrator plant. They don’t have to work together, as either one could provide feedstock. Both would take years.
  8. How DI lacrosse has become more evened out because there is more talent. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/07/sports/syracuse-college-lacrosse.html
  9. ND expected to produce 2 mill barrels /day by 2030, which is more than most OPEC nations. https://www.jamestownsun.com/business/energy-and-mining/4607905-bigger-some-opec-north-dakota-track-reach-2-million-barrels-oil
  10. Notre Dame won't be part of the Big Ten comprehensively. You can't understand always. You have zero patience. It will take more effort.
  11. Perspective of an Illinois paper: https://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/basketball/north-dakota-s-jones-joins-isu-basketball-staff/article_c0eb2154-7ada-58f9-b2ec-0485107524ff.html
  12. FGCU considered adding hockey when they first moved to DI, as they needed 14 sports to qualify. But FGCU is quite a bit bigger now and is projected to grow massively. UAH hockey was susceptible to cutting at the time with the CHA situation (and it was cut later), but now it looks like its very safe. Think UAH joins to ASUN in a few years, where FGCU is now, as spending tens of millions on a multipurpose arena shows a big commitment not only to hockey, but college sports. Alabama A&M just doesn’t meet Huntsvile’s Desire for college sports.. At least UAH would have a conference ally in FGCU, maybe Liberty too.
  13. Adopting the Brien hawk logo would be a start. The hockey team putting on their jersey would take it to another level.
  14. The current head coach box was overlooked by me. Herbst had great success at a low performing DII school in Mary, but now knows the lay of the land in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa and probably Illinois as a DI assistant, in addition to North Dakota and Minnesota. Jeff Boschee appears to check all the boxes. That choice would probably make a huge splash in the ND media and non-UND fans in North Dakota too. It would raise the profile of the program, at least for a while. He appears to be a good coach, but isn’t the top one in the MIAA, which is McCollum.
  15. According to this story, there has been a number of college programs that have inquired to UAH about starting hockey. Florida Gulf Coast U was the only one that could be named publicly. https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2019/05/03_Putting-a-Charge-In-the-Future.php
  16. The hiring profile looks to be for Herbst.
  17. A third NYC arena will be built near the Nassau County line at Belmont Park. Construction will start after this year’s Belmont Stakes. In a couple years, your wish will be granted. https://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/jon-ledecky-belmont-arena-islanders-1.28028722
  18. Good point, but P5 assistant salaries have grown faster than the salaries of the lower DI conferences.
  19. There is a big push now to have women on the boards. But each director supposedly has different expertise. In HH's case, it's PR and government affairs.
  20. Many sports are funded in part by how much the alumni support it. Athletics generates a lot of the buzz for giving. At SDSU, mbb is the main driver. At UND, mbb is well down the list. Maine and UNH have similar fan expections and interest now, so they pay similarly. The one thing SDSU can do is hire a P5 assistant, but those are much more likely to leave to a bigger program.
  21. I know what the jist of your post was, as always. NDSU is so superior. As a school that has mbb as its third revenue sport, behind hockey and fb, that makes a difference in salaries, was a major point. But Bizen always argue that hockey takes away from true sports, so it feeds into your narrative. The salary differences between Summit teams does not make much difference as they all have entry level DI head coaches. Don’t see coaches jump from one Summit school to another because the pay increase would not be worth the hassle. Summit league lose their coaches to higher level leagues that pay at least double or more, but since NDSU is a top tier school, that can not be remotely possible in your tiny mind. Summi teams get new DI HC’s, or maybe washed up ones that are looking to rebound. It’s effectively a HC nursery school..
  22. About half the coaches on Miller’s list don’t qualify under the job listing posted in his new article. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/basketball/4607615-und-posts-mens-basketball-job-prioritizes-local-ties
  23. Basketball coaches salaries are generally grouped by conference The P5 and Big East coaches make in the millions, because those conferences have big time TV contracts. A few others do too, like Gonzaga, Wichita St, and others in the AAC. The MVC, MWC and the A10 are at the next level. The Horizon League teams are on the next level, because they don’t have football, except Youngstown St, so the HL through more resources at their one major sport, Since UND has football and hockey, the pot gets diluted even more, as mbb is the third most popular sport. Look at similar examples: UNH pays $155 k a year Maine pays $160 k a year Vermont doesn’t have fb, and its coach makes $100 more than their two state rivals. But Vermont is head and shoulder above those other two in NCAA bids. uNO’s coach makes $170 k, and it only has two major sports now. EWU, where Chaves was in charge, paid $130 k. Montana pays DeCuire $155 k, soon to be $175 k. Montana St paid Fish $158 k, plus bonuses and incentives and other $ for running camps etc. Arguably, at USD and SDSU, mbb is their top sport. A new DI coach with no DI HC experience, would take the job just for the experience, and then move up. Such is the nature of DI, see SDSU losing its last two coaches to Wright St and UNLV. A coach has to have special ties to stay, see Wichita State but Marshall makes over $1 million. Texas Tech’s coach Beard, fresh off the Final Four run, just got a major increase and long term contract for almost $4.6 mill per year.
  24. USD didn’t do too bad with its hire. UNO took an NAIA coach from Hastings who had great success at that level, and suspect that UNO will become a power program, in the Summit as the talent base in Nebraska and Iowa is so rich. Volleyball coaches don’t have the financial riches awaiting them, even at most P5 programs, so its much more of a pot pouri of choices.
  25. Confusing that this angst over Kennedy wasn’t shown nearly as strident over Kelley. The students even unfurled a banner for Kelley’s ouster at the REA. Kennedy made tough decisions that some of the faculty hated (dropping WIH and M/W swimming, laying off staff, dropping academic programs, suspending a golf course) while the only thing that Kelley did was finagling a way to drop the Sioux nickname where he didn’t get the blame but let every financial issue fester.. Its rare the the students recognize the real problem.
