  1. Simon Fraser and Arizona St could be partners in scheduling if Simon Fraser decides to go DI. Maybe UNLV and other PAC12 schools are closer to announcing. Huntsville could inquire to the AHA on membership. Liberty has expressed interest in DI hockey too. The Alaska travel must have been a financial killer for the leaving schools that something had to be done. Leaving out Huntsville makes it seem like this was a cold blooded move.
  2. https://mihockey.com/2019/06/four-michigan-d1-schools-part-of-exploration-into-new-college-hockey-conference/ That would effectively leave Huntsville and the Alaskas homeless. Huntsville is planning a new on-campus arena. Some AHA schools like Mercyhust, Robert Morris, and the Buffalo Twins (Canisius and Niagara) could join those seven to make an even numbered League or they take in someone like Minot State or Oakland U outside Detroit. Edit: An eighth school will be available early next decade: St Thomas
  3. She had moved to the Twin Cities and then apparently had a better offer, as she was to come to UND this fall. The Flores/Fraase situation left many upset with the changes apparently.
  4. This is a very weak non-conference schedule. Play four HBCU’s which are historically weak in the sport and make trips to New Orleans, Rhode Island, and North Carolina against rather weak competition. But it’s a rebuilding year so a good start is possible.
  5. Rename the Summit the Big Sky Conference. The Summit should be a mountain conference anyway. The Montanas have longed for academic piers ever since Nevada left. The NoDak are equally impressive academic and research institutions.
  6. Electricity comes from increasingly nat gas, which is cheap. Once again, you are proven yourself energy illiterate. A source in the middle of a AG region, with available water, would be huge
  7. The question hasn’t been asked by any member of media (even in Montana), if the Montanas would prefer the Summit over the Big Sky if natural partners such as Idaho, EWU and Weber St were included too. Back in the late 70’s, the Montanas were hot for the NoDaks to be conference rivals but were outvoted.
  8. This should bring more UAV business to Grand Forks. https://www.thedickinsonpress.com/business/technology/2730994-North-Dakota-gets-nod-to-fly-drones-over-people
  9. Dakota Gas and Basin Electric are close to bankruptcy as natural gas prices are so low. Have a relative working at another Basin Plant and things are very tight due to the nat gas price situation. Dakota Gas never would have been built if shale gas was even considered back then. The market has a knack for changing rapidly if new technologies come about so older plant are vacated as non profitable.
  10. Talk to these researchers. https://phys.org/news/2018-07-electrochemically-produced-ammonia-revolutionize-food-production.html Maybe you are the person that should stay away from this tread. You’ve said a plastic or petrochemical plant would never be built in ND, but the next week billionaires were backing Bakken Midstream to build infrastructure to do that very thing.
  11. Was referring to ND, SD, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Montana, and NW Minnesota.
  12. Bakken Midstream said it was going to announce its first plans this year. An underground ethane cavern for storage near Tioga would seem like a good bet.
  13. It may be that there is a cheaper method to get Nitrogen converted to ammonia than burning to form Nitrous oxides. People may be researching that, like at EERC. Sioux City has an huge ammonia plant, and a Grand Forks could supply a huge area independently. Basin Electric just provides a pittance of regional needs.
  14. The AAC probably won’t replace UConn, so the UConn shift wouldn’t cause a football reshuffling unless UConn and UMass both join CUSA for fb, and CUSA splits into an east and west. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/university-of-cincinnati/2019/06/24/american-athletic-conference-uconn-football-expansion/1553756001/
  15. It’s rather incredible that they don’t. Five conference schools spend major dollars on it, but the Summit doesn’t have anything to do with it. They put so much energy into getting more baseball and men’s soccer teams, which are needed for survival, and only one more fb team, those baseball and men’s soccer concerns can go away.
  16. When Grand Forks can’t even afford a Northwoods team, like Bismarck does, there is practically no hope for UND baseball to return. https://northwoodsleague.com/bismarck-larks/front-office/ The Bismarck Larks are probably an order of magnitude less cost than the F-M RedHawks. The Northwoods teams, summer teams for college kids, have minimal cost with teams all over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, and Bismarck got a team a couple years ago. At least NDSU has a good on campus stadium, granted with little attendance for the NDSU team, but the RedHawks draw well.
  17. https://www.omaha.com/neprepzone/recruiting/football/millard-south-athlete-chase-perchal-commits-to-north-dakota-football/article_7fb3ecfb-d912-57ec-ac98-41cb7b0b0d85.html Chase Perchal got more hand written letters from UND than all the other schools combined and it felt like home.

  19. An article on why Arizona State was reluctant to leave the then WAC for the PAC 8. Arizona wanted to go, but Ariz St lacked top notch academics and research and Kush didn’t want to move. https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/college/asu/2019/06/22/pac-8-expansion-asu-has-ua-thank-push-move-wac-pac/3535235002/ The much higher money with the P5 changes things dramatically now.
  20. DePaul supposedly has the most mismanaged athletic department in DI. It’s more about staffing nepotism (friends and family) than winning. There has been a scathing article or two on this in the past.
  21. They lost the beauty pageant with Louisville, because UConn’s football is poor and Louisville has been on the rise. So Louisville got the supposedly last ACC slot.
  22. Most conferences with cable sports contracts are moving to 20 conference games per team. Creighton is not in any danger, as they fill Century Link. The BE should replace DePaul with Loyola but that wont happen either.
  23. The Enderlin paper, not on the net, has supposedly reported that the Hurlbert twins have signed.
  24. The Big East could just add UConn, as that would give 20 games against everyone with a totally balanced schedule. But the travel situation would be non-ideal. Presume Xavier would block Dayton, but the network may not like them either as their local media overlaps.
  25. NDSU is like Appalachian St and Georgia Southern, who needed a conference slate of free games to go FBS. Independence at the FBS level is almost financially impossible for NDSU, as they don’t currently have the cash that Liberty does. NDSU needs other schools regionally that will group together to go FBS, and what I’ve been saying meshes with that. Almost all the so called Great Northern now have or are building indoor practice centers, which is nearly a must for FBS recruiting.
