  1. 89k Has four kids, so probably wants some school stability before they enter HS. From his movements, he probably wants a head coaching position near or in Minnesota. There are not many slots that could be open, except UND.
  2. If INCH is correct about a $21 mill deficit in WMU athletics, they might have to. A bus league, unlike the WCHA or NCHC.
  3. Its amazing the coaches that were on the staff here with Glas: McDermott and Jacobson. UND should have never let them leave for NDSU. Glas should have been given an alumni association job so his more talented assistants could have taken over. We missed on Tim Miles at Mayville St, before he went to NDSU, and then Colo St, and then Nebraska. We hissed on Craig Smith at Mayville St, before he went to USD. We seem to fallen into a trap, only wanting a coach that has been an assistant at a big name school, but never being a head coach himself. Chad Walthall has been an assistant, as has Jones, at Iowa. But better yet, he has actually been a head coach with remarkable success wherever he went. The problem with a coaching change is that it is normally a big risk. If we got Walthall, it would be no risk. What is the downside? He can coach and lead, starting in high school. Get him now before some other DI school gets him. http://www.msumdragons.com/staff.aspx?staff=84
  4. Wiki contains some untrue info about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Jones_(basketball,_born_1971)
  5. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2015/03/17/ncaa-tournament-march-madness-coaches-pregame-rituals-holtmann-matta/24898241/
  6. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/dennis-dodd/25112658/notre-dame-ad-has-a-vision-of-two-college-athletic-associations ND AD Swarbrick says FBS may have to split, as one will follow a semipro system, and one will follow a strict academic line. Notre Dame would be academic, along with schools like BC, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Stanford, UVa, and others. Most of the lower schools would follow Notre Dame, whereas the SEC would be semipro. He may just be blowing smoke, as he says congressional oversight is coming, but this is the first proposal that seems to divide FBS by another means than just P5 vs G5. He says Notre Dame won't spend more than 4% on athletics, while some P5 schools go much higher.
  7. Most companies in the patch aren't laying off, but there are reducing work weeks from 80 hrs to 40. No overtime pay, so people won't have so much spending money. Still some major hiring, but for retail and other services. The rents will have to come down or people will leave. There are now some people predicting a major turn in oil prices up after the summer. But seems like oil will be down for years.
  8. Has anyone looked at MSU-M's Chad Walthall's resume? Native of Staples, Mn Undergrad at Concordia, Moorhead Played QB there, where he helped win two MIAC championships Student asst for Bball Masters at St Cloud in athletic admin Grad Asst bball at St Cloud Head coach at Redwood Falls Asst at St Olaf Asst at E Mich Head coach at Lora's (IA) Asst at Iowa Head coach at MSU-M The man is a winner and a leader where ever he has been! Get him in our program!
  9. http://www.wsj.com/articles/oil-boom-swells-north-dakota-town-what-now-1426628879 Apparently, the WSJ is concerned about Watford City's future. Oil prices might be going even lower, as massive tanks at Cushing, Ok, the key storage location in the US, might fill up, forcing upstream wells to shut down. But the summer driving season is just about upon us, which will cause an uptick in oil consumption. OneOK is still building gas processing plants outside of Watford City. They have postponed a $600 mill plant east of Watford City. but there are building three other ones and three are operating. If the polyethylene plant ever gets off the ground, OneOKs plants will need to be modified to produce pure ethane, which would be a major undertaking. Think Watford City is less risky than Williston.
  10. They chose not to play up because its more expensive: pay more for coaching, scholarships, facilities etc. American International and Sacred Heart chose to opt up for the AHA. So could St Anshelm, Franklin Pierce, etc, but the AHA even has standards. St Anshelm has the rink for it but doesn't want to play up.
  11. I took Wilson's comments to mean that a new CCHA is likely. "If people are talking about a new CCHA, we'll be receptive." That's some serious smoke about a new CCHA. Where there's smoke, there will be fire. RIT and Union can offer serious academic aid to any hockey player, except the very wealthy. Scholarships aren't the issue they appear to be for those schools. RIT has a $740 M endowment. Union has a $340 M endowment, for a college of only 2000 students. One DI sport isn't going to break their banks. A DII can still opt up for hockey, but some don't like St Anshelm. A DIII school can not opt up anymore. IMHO, Simon Fraser, Lindenwood, and Minot St all moved to DII so they could opt up to DI in hockey. They are all nearly full DII members now, so the next couple of years could be telling.
  12. We can hope that Faison is waiting for the end of Moörhead's season. A coach usually won't leave til after the dance is over.
  13. Inchwriters.com/2015/02/24/realignment/ This link says WMU might go to a new CCHA pushed by Bowling Green. That would open a spot for Notre Dame in the NCHC. A new CCHA? Bowling Green Ferris St WMU Mercyhurst Robert Morris Canisius Niagara Ill St ? That would be a bus league for travel cost containment. The WCHA can backfill with Simon Fraser and Lindenwood. The AHA can backfill with Liberty, Navy, and URI. Everybody is happier, except the UP schools.
  14. The B1G won't be at seven. They either add an existing school, or they add another PAC12 school, or they add UConn as an affiliate. UConn desperately wants to be part of a P5 conference, so affiliation would be a step in that direction. UConn hockey was upgraded IMHO to better appeal as a school to the B1G. UConn isn't an AAU school yet, but the state has that as a goal and their pumping major $s into UConn. The B1G has made a big production out of Madison Square Garden B1G hockey games. UConn would take it to another level.
  15. Yesterdays Herald had an article on the shortage of office space in Gf. Apparently, downtown might get two new buildings, one by JLG and one by the Edgewood Group, which has offices in Grand Forks but is growing its collection of assisted care facilities across right states. The Edgewood Group may build as high as eight stories. Downtown hasn't really seen much growth for years, other than condos and apartments.
  16. Thought Gf was the only city in ND with a AA Bantam team?
  17. So if the Slummit is such a powerful draw, how come the Bison don't have anybody of consequence from the Cities on their roster, but UND does? NDSU basketball mostly relies on Illinois and Wisconsin. The Horizon and MVC just weren't interested in those players?
  18. So far, there have been 13 DI coaches that have been fired, released, or resigned. East Tennessee St fired Murray Bartow after a 16-14 season. He has led ETSU to two NCAA berths and numerous NIT and CIT bids over the past 12 years. Previously, he was head coach at UAB, where he also had multiple postseason bids. He would probably accept a job for under $200k.
  19. If you graduate from IUPUI or IPFW, your degree would say Indiana or Purdue, depending on what college you were in. The students would riot if the degrees stated IUPUI or IPFW. If you interview an IU or PU graduate, ask what campus they were on. IUPUI has the premiere med school in Indiana, but its officially part of IU.
  20. Liberty just announced that it will expand its on campus rink to seat 3200. Doubt they would do that for club teams. Atlantic Hockey here Liberty and Navy come!
  21. There also a rumor that Boston U wants to upgrade it sports programs. BU was just accepted into AAU a couple of years ago, so they have academic credentials. BU is lobbying the Big East, where they would play MBB in the Boston Garden. There's also talk that they could move their hockey program to the BTHC. If BU hockey goes to the BTHC, BC would probably have to look at it. If these talks are real, Notre Dame has to be seriously talking with the NCHC.
  22. There's a rumor on USCO from a Sun Devil fan about Illinois St starting DI hockey. Downtown Bloomington, Ill, has a 7k arena that houses a USHL team, so the rumor could be credible. Only league they could go is the WCHA. Ill St's club team is moving to ACHA D1 too.
  23. There were at least a few inquiries to the MVC, but they don't want your basketball. When the Big Sky goes FBS, bison fans will be squealing to go there again. The Slummit will be skewered when all is said and done.
  24. Exactly. The Big Sky acceptance document says something like, while it is not immediately possible for Idaho football to join the Big Sky, we look forward to when Idaho football will also be under the conference umbrella. Why do NDSU fans not mock the ADs or Presidents of the MVFC who have publicly campaigned for FBS? Those schools include UNI, Ill St, Mo St, Ind St, and Youngstown St. Hypocrites those bizons. Those schools want to leave the ranks of FCS too, if they get a chance. Or call in to Colin Cowherds show and give him hell for saying EWU will be FBS soon.
  25. UND and GF are used to big donors being sugar daddies, so with out a sugar daddy, initiatives aren't even tried for certain sports. NDSU doesn't have real sugar daddies, so all their fan base has to work toward a goal.
