  1. Granted, blown saves haunted the team vs NDSU, but this team is doing pretty well in the WAC. Have made the playoffs in Phoenix, while sunbelt teams like NMSU and UTPA are in the cellar. As the best team Grand Canyon isn't eligible, Bakersfield may be the best team remaining, but Seattle and UND aren't too far behind. This weekends series with Utah Valley should be big. Starting pitching has really come on. I actually like this teams chances in the WAC tournament. That should be enough of a kiss of death for them. Meanwhile, Denver, Notre Dame, and Syracuse are among the favorites in the NCAA men's lacrosse tourney.
  2. So Bresiani is schmoozing Harold Hamm? Hamm has pledged to give away his fortune before he dies. His ex-wife only got $1 billion in the divorce, so there's still plenty, even after oil prices tumbled. I wonder if Kelley can schmooze potential donors? Hamm's 10 mill and Hess's 5 mill don't count in my book, as those were educational investments needed by the oil industry in this state.
  3. When a conference bids a tournament out to a city, that city normally wants all the teams there to maximize the number of fans. So the conference has all teams come as part of the deal. The city just doesn't care if they go to the games or not, but they do want people in hotels, restaurants, and in Reno's case, casinos. Reno pays the Big Sky big bucks to host, and they want tourism dollars in return. Fans can make travel arràngements months in advance. Big Sky schools generally have it cheaper as they can buy airline and hotel reservations months in advance, compared to the past when its a week in advance. Sioux Falls doesn't get many tourists from their Slummit teams, as USD and SDSU are home teams. The Slummit enjoys the gate and Sioux Falls gets ESPN publicity.
  4. But do we want them in the WCHA?
  5. Denver bought a world class coach from Princeton for a price, is a Big East member in that sport, and has expensive tuition and room and board. A public like Albany spends a third of that.
  6. NDSU has money oozing out their orifices, according to bison trolls here. But the department has a habit of underestimating the cost of things.
  7. Colorado St is adding women's lax. The bizon might have a sport with which to join the Mountain West as lakes wants, and take a big step in solving their Title IX issues. Fresno and San Diego St have it too, but I guess bison board policy prohibits air travel unless its to Indiana or Oklahoma. ConcordiaSP is adding it too, but at a DII level.
  8. http://m.startribune.com/local/300550291.htlm Jobs are still being listed a high rate in Williston, only they don't pay as much as they used to.
  9. Austin isn't happening anytime soon, but I wouldn't bet against then in in five or ten years.
  10. The interstate rivalries are very intense. See Texans vs Cowboys, Rangers vs Astros, Spurs vs Rockets vs Mavericks. A Houston or Austin franchise would be a big boost to the Stars. Austin has the corporate money to make it happen, but they need cooperation from the Longhorns, who need a replacement for the Erwin Center. If a new NHL rink was built in Austin, NCAA hockey would follow there too. Texas has nearly as many people as Canada and is growing much faster.
  11. It like three hours without traffic. Austin wants a pro team, and someday they'll have one. Dallas needs another Texas team.
  12. Their looking for a David Beckham on skates, with his posh wife.
  13. Think Austin could support a team too, if they had an NHL quality rink. Austin wants a pro team too, like Columbus, Raleigh, Oklahoma City (NBA), but its closeness to San Antonio closes the doors on the NBA. When the UTexas builds a new arena, it should partner with a prospective NHL owner. Austin is like San Jose in the tech world. San Jose works in the NHL, and both cities have an enormous amount of corporate tech money floating around.
  14. Quebec City has an NHL caliber new rink sitting empty. Hartford is putting a $250 mill remodel on its XL Center, but its over three years, so it doesnt interfere with UConn MBB, wbb, or hockey. Even after the remodel is finished, its not what the NHL wants in a rink. But its possible if an owner wants to move. Winnipeg and Quebec City only lost their teams because the Canadian dollar was less than 70 cents, so small market Canadian NHL teams lost a fortune. Those days could happen again.
  15. Exactly. The Atlanta Thrashers would have worked with an arena in Cobb or Gwinnett Counties. Many Atlanta suburbanites refuse to go downtown at night because of traffic and crime. That's why when Cobb County offered to build the Braves a new stadium, the Braves couldn't say yes quick enough.
  16. Glendale is just too far from Phoenix and the East Valley to drive out there 40 times a year. The NFL Cards work because its only 8+ games a year. Glendale is a problem, not Phoenix. Miami is worse than LA for society seekers that want to be seen. The Heat worked there when they had LeBron, but come a few losing seasons they will struggle at the gate like the Dolphins, Marlins, and Panthers. The Panthers need to sign a big celebrity to make it cool. Rocco probably won't do. Raleigh and the Research Triangle are growing like a weed. The franchise is putting down roots with the younger crowd, which can't afford season tickets yet.
  17. Paul Allen doesn't have ownership in the Coyotes, but he supposedly has interest in the team and moving them to Portland. The NW would have three teams then. The new Las Vegas arena on the strip almost certainly will be done by 2017. 2016 might not be feasible. Owners in the western conference see $ signs and want Las Vegas, as it will give up most Friday and Saturday home dates, as most of its home schedule will be Sunday-Wednesday nights when strip workers have off days. Casinos want these dates too because it would mean more business from out of town when thing are slower.
  18. The Las Vegas Black Knights will be announced soon, for fall of 2016, as they have deposits on a requisite number of tickets. Seattle is still possible, as an environmental impact study will be done soon, and Seattle might revise the terms to allow an NHL in first. The arena will be several years down the road, so Seattle's admission will be delayed. If Glendale still has issues down the road, Paul Allen is rumored to relocate that team to Portland. The NHL wants 16 team conferences before adding to the east. Detroit and Columbus won't move to the western conference. When the league is at 32 teams, Quebec City and Toronto get expansion teams. The Toronto team will be placed in the western conference. Houston is a city that can easily support an NHL team with all kinds of Yankees there, but the owners of the Toyota Center don't want a team there. Nashville is a model franchise in the Sun Belt. They are not going anywhere.
  19. One can argue that I am a fool for arguing with an idiot. No doubt.
  20. You are a brain dead delusional bison troll arguing about semantics. Prime example of a former bison player having one too many concussions trying to prove how tough he was affects the rest of his senile life. So sad. When a player leaves, is kicked off, or graduates in the fall, his scholarship is normally reallocated immediately or before before spring for someone else. Got it?
  21. Bison brain density showing again. When a 5th yr player graduates in the fall semester, or anyone leaves in the fall, scholarships in the spring become available. They can be used for spring JC or FBS transfers or a one time scholarship for a walk on or partial. So your saying NDSU doesn't reward walkons or partials that have done well?
  22. Equestrian may lose its NCAA status, but Baylor, Kansas St, Auburn, Georgia, and other land grants will count it still towards Title IX. Equestrian normally has up to 75 gals competing. That is a lot of Title IX slots. SDSU will be in big trouble if they drop equestrian. Miami has a synchronized skating team competing against club teams, but its recognized as varsity sport with scholarships and by Title IX, but not the NCAA. The NCAA may recognize an NDSU women's rowing team that uses the north Fargo sewage lagoons though. That always an option, other than hockey.
  23. Scholarships are redistributed the next semester if you have a class program, even if a kid only gets a partial for one semester. But were talking class programs here, so never mind.
  24. When players !eave or get kicked off, normally their scholarships get distributed among those getting partials or walk ons. To not have a football team fully funded says there is a problem somewhere. Title IX is the place to look. By not funding football totally, that "shows" women's sports are not exclusively shortchanged when the books are opened. Why NDSU does not have an equestrian team like SDSU, which uses the gals to clean out the barns, is beyond comprehension.
  25. Just keep deluding yourself that NDSU is fine shape with Title IX. The local courts opinion is what matters, not NDSU or the NCAAs or even the Office of Civil Rights from the Dept of Educ. Why did NDSU not fully fund football? Had 58 instead of 63, which barely qualified them as a counter for FBS. The answer I believe is Title XI, as not funding football to the max is a good defense for Title IX, as NDSU can plead poverty then by claiming its star program is underfunded. Larsen coming from Stony Brook has to be scared sh**less about Title IX compliance. UCDavis had a complaint filed by women's wrestlers, who thought they were entitled to a team, but DI doesn't even sponsor it. The gals didn't get anything, but their lawyers got a $1.2 settlement. Granted it was a California court, but the conventional wisdom among the bisonville is that UND law grads have such low integrity that they will do anything to cause pain for NDSU. UND law grads run the ND court system.
