This is all theoretical since only Ariz St has a hockey team, which I now suspect will initially join the Big 10 along with either Nebraska or Iowa. If Iowa and Nebraska join at the same time, Ariz St probably will join the NCHC. Wisconsin and Ohio St are currently jokes, but Penn St sells out and has put a competitive team on the ice. UND is not an AAU university and does not have very intense research, and more importantly, won't earn many much more Big10 Network subscriptions, like Ariz St could. The PAC12 isn't so exclusive, though it bars BYU,as Utah, Ariz St, Wash St, and Ore St all don't meet Big Ten research standards. UND and Denver would jump at a chance to be in affiliates in the PAC12, as it would result in more media attention, PAC12 Network money, and elevate UND's perceived status. Perhaps Omaha would get a bid too. Time will tell.

Wasn't he originally a Williston kid who moved to Bismarck to get in a better program atmosphere?
-
Denver wants California rich kids for just recruiting academics. Denver would jump in a minute for both sports. The Big West and WCC are Denver's preferred conferences, not the Slummit, for a reason. The PAC12 needs Denver's quality programs in those sports for credibility and history. UND would probably join in hockey too, as it would be a big boost to UNDs general prestige. Wouldn't happen for ten years probably. As other programs like USC, Stanford, and Oregon would need to get off the ground in both sports.

Wanless was a highly competent AD who hired great coaches and assistants and upgraded athletes across the board, emphasizing the academic side. He turned around Sac St's basketball and football programs after they were basket cases for years. To bad Ralph didn't like him.
-
Bake won two games in a row against Seattle and won the WAC. Two MVC teams are hosting the NCAA first round groups: Dallas Baptist and Mo State. Oral Roberts is going from the Slummit.
-
Congrats to Denver, as its the first school west of the Appalachians to win in men's lacrosse. Think Denver would take a PAC12 affiliate offers for lacrosse and hockey if the PAC12 ever gets this sports off the ground.

Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong
SiouxVolley replied to Hammersmith's topic in Other Sports
It will be interesting when NDSU is forced to have a ratio of 54/46 M\F, like other institutions have strict proportional representation. It would require over 100 additional female athletes: 288 male / 245 female, which is nearly double the women they have now. Any other admin in the US wouldn't put up with that kind of crap. No wonder football could get up to speed so quick. -
Denver makes its first lax championship game. Will be Denver vs Maryland Monday.

Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong

NDSU views "interests and aptitudes" as not requiring Tiers to be in compliance with Title IX. Yet NDSU posters apply a different standards to us than to them, just like their administrators have done for years (I.e. matching funds from ND, NDSU abused their privileges so the rules were changed my explicitly forbidden donations to athletic scholarships from being matched.) NDSU always games systems, never obeying the the requirements like everyone else. -

Actually agree with you, as women's hockey is critical for Title IX. That why Idalski's salary is higher than even most men's coaches. What is the equivalent women's sport for NDSU pedestal sport of football? No one women's sport shares Fargodome Taj Majal facilities that were built just for football: meeting rooms etc. How does NDSU women's sports meet Tier I, II, and III, if football is tier I, basketball tier II, and the rest of men's sports tier III. By the logic you've layer out, all NDSU women's are Tier III. Maybe Womens basketball could be argued as a Tier II program, but it doesn't near the emphasis that the men's program does. How does NDSU correct its serious Title IX issues, in both not having a Tier I Womens program and being grievously off balance in proportionality. Its practically a miracle the Obama's Dept of Education hasn't called NDSU on the carpet regarding Title IX. -
The report is a generic college athletics accounting document form. Booster club membership fees best fit there.
-
So Grand Forks RRHS who stole NDs nickname is the rightful owner?
-
UND athletics doesn't report any REA revenue, including tickets. UND athletics gets booster club memberships directly and a charitable contribution by the REA Its complicated to figure UND athletics accounting. Almost need a CPA.
-
If the new IPF is not a commitment to football, what is it? Was it just built for track?

Twin Cities area schools with that name felt put upon. Deal with it. A state nickname should be an option for a flagship university, period. Kindred and Valley City State learned to live with it, even though in the hometowns the NFL team was referenced more by townfolk and media.
-
So did all the high schools and colleges around here named vikings have to change their names when the NFL Vikings came on the scene in 1961? Kindred residents and Valley City State alumni must have been furious. Somehow, someway theres no confusion among the NFL Vikings and other colleges and HSs with the same nickname.

Roughriders was the former name of Case Institute, but that school merged with Western Reserve to become Case Western and adopted a new nickname. Its an Ivy League school academically, so that's the reason I mention it. Few people know or care about minor leagues or the CFL. The state of North Dakota can use a reinforcing image of Roughriders as a nickname by UND using it too. Its a positive feedback loop that only gets stronger over time. Cavalry can be used for auxillary organizations, but it doesn't help the state much if its used as a nickname.
-
I agree. But like Rough riders more, and I used to hate the RRHS Riders when I was at Central. Their logo is and was timeless. But they were red, we will be green. Most midwestern flagships have a state nickname as their nickname. ND nicknames are: the Sioux State - xx Flickertail State - xx Peace Garden State - xx Roughrider State - only state nickname left that can serve as a mascot Cornhusker, Gopher, Hawkeye, Badger, Buckeye, Wolverine, Hoosier, Jayhawk, Sooner, Longhorn, Razorback, Volunteer, Mountaineer are all official state nicknames and the flagship U's mascot. It really isn't that difficult. Have a Cavalry band or as some other student or booster support organization with military ranks as levels of donors.

EWU lost seven players, as they quit or got kicked off by EWUs coach, Wendy Schuller. The Spokane paper has the gory story. Right now, EWU has five players set for next season.
-
We'd be plagiarizing La-Monroe, an FBS school forced to drop Indians, so they went as Warhawks.
-
Lax Final Four Denver vs Notre Dame Johns Hopkins vs Maryland The Big Ten is crowing because they have half the teams.
-
Looks like UND will be the 3rd seed in the WAC tournament next week in Mesa. Swept NMSU 3 games to none in Las Cruces this weekend. Grand Canyon, the winner of the regular season, isn't eligible. Good luck!

The construction workforce for the ammonia plant can transition into construction for the plastic plant. Both plants benefit in costs and in capital. Jamestown could be 10 k or more larger longterm, but the huge construction manpower would be nearly steady for three or four years. Some mancamps from out west can move there. The state wants to shift growth east between the RRV and the Missouri/Souris, as that part hasn't any growth to speak of.
-
My guess is that the polyethylene plant will be built in Jamestown. The state authorized a water pipeline from the Missouri for the CHS ammonia plant. The polyethylene plant could be built next door, saving on facilities like steam plants and effluent treatment. If the plastic plant gets built near Jamestown, somewhere like Linton could benefit too, as a ethane separation plant needs to be built too and then piped to Jamestown. A OneOk Nat gas pipeline runs near Linton, and the gas is approaching the limit for ethane, so something has to be done.
