  1. Totally. Six more scholarships that can be divided among defensive type players and setters. Its a way to build depth and try out players that otherwise wouldn't be developed. An assistant coach in court can be the head coach in sand, so its one of the cheapest sports out there. If we want to get better, going bigger is often a way. Soccer and softball can have schollies pulled if we have to, as those sports are almost a lost cause at UND. Volleyball should be a midmajor powerhouse here. Go ALL IN on Volleyball, as a bet that both programs reach greater heights. If that leaves softball and soccer with less financial support, so be it.
  2. So we're supposed to be loving to trolls now as a Supreme Court mandate? Bet that happens when bisonville freezes over.
  3. Should UND start a Sand Volleyball program? It can play in the soon to be vacated Hyslop, can offer six more scholarships, give court Volleyball more access to players, and it offers some revenue potential. The Big Ten doesn't offer Sand Volleyball yet, and Nebraska is sponsoring a team and also some Big 12 schools. The Big West, WCC, PAC 12, and some southeast conferences will have autobids next season. Having sand volleyball would be a big help for court Volleyball recruiting and depth, and would cement UND among mid majors as a volleyball force. http://www.volleyballmag.com/articles/43569-a-championship-for-ncaa-sand
  4. Next year they'll get their only FBS offer from the Big Sky! Can just hear the gnashing of teeth in Fargo!
  5. Not soon, but maybe in a couple decades, according to the Williston Herald (second to last paragraph): http://www.willistonherald.com/business/construction-goes-boom-in-williston/article_667f4fdc-1dd5-11e5-b4b9-d7f92710c902.html?mode=jqm
  6. It was just an historical artifact when there were many rural one school districts. A lot of Fargo kids have to go to West Fargo now because parts of southwest Fargo are in West Fargo's District. Emerado, Thompson, and Manvel districts surround Grand Forks, so its conceivable that with growth parts of Grand Forks could be in another school district. City boundaries may expand, but school district boundaries don't often change other than consolidation.
  7. Many of the people voting didn't trust District 8's leadership after the previous superintendent resigned. District 8 would only have to pay 16% of the cost, and one of their schools will have to be vacated because an oil service company wants to reclaim it, and District 8 would have to pay substantial tuition to get their HS kids into Williston District 1. A Facebook campaign evidently spooked District 8 voters, many of whom want to merge with District 1. District 8 leadership failed to articulate and communicate what their vision is. http://www.willistonherald.com/business/dialogues-special-meeting-is-monday-at/article_e4d11dfc-1dd5-11e5-94f0-af6ef995f126.html?mode=jqm
  8. So jobs don't follow the rig count in the oil industry? Williston still has a huge inventory of job openings that many of these people wouldn't qualify for. With Saudi and others conceding control of the oil markets now to shale, any more eruption of Shia vs Sunni war will cause oil to go higher. You can write the obituary of Williston if you want, because you are a fool.
  9. A little old, but Williston District 8 rejected a referendum that would have built new schools and a new HS. http://www.kfyrtv.com/news/headlines/Williams-County-Residents-Vote-Against-District-8-Referendum-306867451.html?device=tablet&c=y
  10. Fresno State is doing a major upgrades to Bulldog Stadium, as is nearly all the MWC. Meanwhile, NDSU can't even sniff a MAC or MWC or even an MVC bid, but their board is buzzing about a Big 12 bid. NDSU should have not done the BSA remodel, but saved it to build a new FB stadium, and used the FargoDome for basketball if there was any hope for FBS from a larger conference. http://www.fresnobee.com/sports/college/mountain-west/fresno-state/bulldogs-football/article25543174.html
  11. Interesting story on a Baudette generic drug company that seems to be breaking out. Never heard of this company, but apparently eelfish from Lake of the Woods have high concentrations of Vitamin A and D so a couple of brothers started extracting the stuff and bottling it. It was later bought a couple times, and entered the generic markets. http://www.minnpost.com/twin-cities-business/2015/04/big-pharma-comes-small-town-baudette-minnesota http://seekingalpha.com/article/3284315-ani-pharmaceuticals-the-rally-has-just-begun The second article is by a former hedge fund guy who has a fantastic record picking stocks.
  12. Le Journal de Quebec says a group of Canàdians and Americans are attempting to get a franchise for Houston. The Rockets owner is the only person that can sign of on an NHL team in the Toyota Center. http://www.journaldequebec.com/2015/06/26/nhl-le-probleme-de-houston
  13. The new owners of the Atlanta Hawks want a new arena. The old owner let Phillips run down and didn't want the Thrashers. Ted Turner only insisted the arena be in downtown so he could walk from his penthouse condo. If an NBA/NHL arena had been built in suburban Cobb/ Gwinnett, the Thrashers would likely still be there. If the Hawks get a new suburban arena, that will probably be the new favorite location for moving the Panthers. http://markbradley.blog.ajc.com/2015/06/25/hawks-fans-are-you-ready-for-a-new-arena/ Atlanta developers never tire of a build and demolish strategy.
  14. Sac States joins the Big West ... http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/sandvball/2014-15/releases/20150626tgnv5u In a new sport.
  15. Good article on the original expansion: http://thehockeywriters.com/june-6-1967-the-day-that-changed-hockey/
  16. With the Bearson case as yet unsolved, two Sartell residents have been murdered in the Fargo area. Bearson's girlfriend was a Traut. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/region/3774413-sartell-mourns-second-native-son-killed-fargo
  17. When you start a serious campaign to rid ND of the Rough Rider nickname, you and your ilk will be much more believable.
  18. Bisonville is going nuts over this article. But Cincinnati and Memphis are feverishly improving their facilities to join the P5. North Dakota would have to add a million more people, build a 50k domed stadium in Fargo, and upgrade NDSUs look from a penal institution to an academic one. Miami of Ohio was often considered a Big Ten candidate by sportswriters in the 1970's because of their record, but never seriously considered by the BIG. http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/100365/ou-president-boren-puts-possible-big-12-expansion-back-in-news
  19. You seem fixated on Roughrider as a military term. Roughriders is more or less interchangeable with Rawhiders in meaning, plus more.
  20. At least one potential owner has thrown in his hat for a second Toronto team. A second Toronto team could play in the West, so Toronto would often have doubleheader nights on TV. That could mean the NHL could add four teams, with Quebec City getting one in the east. http://m.thn.com/blog/graeme-roustan-will-definitely-apply-for-second-nhl-team-in-toronto/
  21. Or maybe move Calgary and Edmonton to the Central with Winnipeq and move Colorado to the Pacific. Las Vegas would want to be Pacific as it would have drivable rivals with Phoenix, Anaheim, and LA.
  22. Perhaps Kansas City may have a potential owner now. Lamar Hunt Jr, worth $4 bill, bought the CHLs Missouri Mavericks. Might be interested in an NHL team. http://lamarhuntjrsports.com/lamar-hunt-jr-brings-kansas-city-hockey-into-the-future/
  23. Seattle and Las Vegas have potential owners to pay that price. Portland will be a backup if the Coyotes have to move, at a reduced price.
  24. There has been a competing arena plan for NHL/NBA teams for Seattle in Tukwila, a suburb just south of the Seattle line where I5 and I405 meet. It also would have mass transit connections and would be built with private money. Here's a link: http://blog.seattlepi.com/sonics/2015/05/14/sodo-arena-vs-tukwila-arena-which-plan-do-you-prefer/#32980101=0 Portland may also come into play. Here's a link where Paul Allen states that he looked at bringing in an NHL at different times. Paul Allen seems to want a good deal, if the Coyotes can be had cheaply. The Rose Garden can handle a team as early as this fall. Seattle only has the decrepid Key Arena for at least a couple of years. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/03/paul-allen-still-looks-at-bringing-the-nhl-to-portland-from-time-to-time/
  25. Would he take the Arizona St job? The club coach probably only coaches ASU the first year, and then they bring in someone with DI/pro experience.
