NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)
SiouxVolley replied to Cratter's topic in Community
Didn't know Spirit flies to MSP. Looked at its flight map and it's all over the Caribbean now. Did not know. -
Perhaps they can temporarily relocate to the old St Michaels/ Med School and bulldoze Gamble, Chandler and even Strinden.
-
As stated previously many times, FBS brings in more money. If Idaho goes down to FCS, they will have to cut sports because they would lose out on massive guarantee game revenue, NCAA money, and CFP money. There is talk of a new CoBPA building, but the state isn't paying for it, so why is there talk? Same for FBS.

There were only umpteen threads about UND staying DII and all the "wise men" assembled there said hockey was a noose around our necks that will keep us DII. Later the narrative was changed where women's hockey was a noose around our necks. When I stated that hockey pulls in more money than NDSU football, the inmates melted down and went berserk over there. Your a total joke, but that it obviously hasn't sunk in yet. But look at me, I'm arguing with an idiot.

For the dimwitted trolls that infest this board, I'll be sure to state whether a statement is a prediction or speculation in the future. Sort of like the entirety of bisonville first rolled with laughter when I stated UND will definitely go DI, when that board said we couldnt and wouldnt, when I said for years that the Big Sky will be our home and that was a running joke there for years during the transition, and now I have said the Big Sky will go FBS and that is a running joke over there among the nim wits. History keeps repeating itself.
-
In addition to replacing Chandler and building new, Strinden Hall was talked about as new new location of the business school. With all the room at the old St. Mikes/ Med School yet to be allocated, UND could absorb several thousand more students if it gets a new building for CoBPA.
-
You and your ilk don't know the difference between a prediction and message board speculation. This is a predictive thread while there is the conference realignment thread is news and speculation. There is a big difference that your small mind can't wrap itself around.

They can go DII and take hockey DI, which was Minot St'S stretch goal too.
-
If Jamestown wants to go DIII for hockey, they have to get into the MIAC, which is almost impossible for a ND school among pretentious Minnesotan privates. But if Jamestown wanted to go DI for hockey, they have to get in the Northern Sun, which isn't that much of a leap now. New DII schools have to be DII for five years before they can move to DI hockey. If an NSIC team left for DI like Mankato, Jamestown would probably be the odds on favorite to be that replacement. For Simon Fraser and Minot St, that five years is over and that's why I think both will get an invite from the WCHA within a year. Minot St lists m/w hockey along with the rest of their sports on their website, even though they aren't varsity.

Exact stuff as said on bisonville. Figures.

Seems to me you were one of the scoffers that went along with the bizon troll crowd when I said that UND will get in the Big Sky before we even announced going to DI. The troll crowd was apoplectic with laughter and many Sioux fans were embarrassed that I had such a bold prediction. Stood by that thought even through the long transition and flirtations with Double and the Slummit. Those messages here seem to be forgotten, so just wanted to remind you all of history. This summer there will be a call from P5 schools to change the FBS moveup rules. Don't know the date.

Get educated if you want to spout off on message boards. When the WAC was down to four schools, DU, SU, NMSU, and UI, the WAC and Big Sky entered into a series of talks trying to save an FBS league and have enough teams for separate FCS league. The California and Oregon schools could go FBS at the time cause there states were in a Budget crisis. Schools like UND and EWU weren't ready. DU and SU refused to start FCS teams. The talks broke down with plans to revisit FBS once Idaho ran out of its Sun Belt years. Upon DU failing to get in the Big Sky (I suspect UND was in favor of Denver getting in but others werent), it could not stand being associated with GCU, UVU, and Chicago St, tried to get into the WCC and Big West, which were preferred even over the Big Sky. Failing those, DU took a Slummit offer which it considered the lesser of two evils over the WAC. The mood of the DU athletic department was like a morgue environment when it accepted. DU was far from joyous when it announced that it was joining the Slummit, according to the press. Contrast that with times DU joined the Big East for lax and the NCHC for hockey. Those were cake and champagne occasions. NMSU is like DU in its desires. It wants a western league but would accept to league with Texas teams as long as that league wasn't the Southland. NMSU can survive as an FBS independent, but it wants the Big West or MVC. CUSA is its target for FBS. Answer this: why would NMSU specifically state they had mutual interest in the Big Sky unless it went unspoken that it would be at the FBS level? An FCS Big Sky doesn't do anything for NMSU, as they could get an FBS independent schedule with UTEP, UNM, UMASS and probably Army as annual games. NMSU doesn't get anything out of the Slummit unless it had FBS. The Slummit geography totally sucks for athlete and student recruiting and alumni outreach for NMSU.

Most Big Sky schools fully support M/W tennis, giving full scholarships to foreign players. I for one like that fact the UND doesn't go all in for tennis and many other non-revenue sports in the Sky. It's too bad they didn't rank revenue sports, because that's what we should care about.
-
Women's soccer is required by the Big Sky. It can't be dropped unless the school is Montana State, which long ago negotiated to have M/W skiing instead.

Obviously, UAF, not UCF. Browser is not letting me edit on tablet.

According to The Province, a BC paper, Simon Fraser will make a decision on DI hockey by fall. Simon Fraser is a full DII members now so they can take hockey varsity at the DI level now. WCHA membership is almost guaranteed, as the WCHA commish mentioned a Canadian school was interested a couple of years back. The WCHA will likel need Minot St too when Arizona St decides differently, except if Bowling Green leaves the WCHA for the NCHC with Ariz St. Could see a WCHA league like this EAST BGSU, UAH, Ferris St, LSU Central NMU, MTU, Bemidji, Mankato West SFU, Minot St, Anchorage, UCF Lindenwood could replace BGSU if it gets an NCHC bid.

Oil prices might go down in the short term still, as the Saudis and Russians were to agree to a deal that would cap output, but Iran refused to cap, and Saudi-Iranian tensions are high, so Saudi Arabia threw out any plans to limit output. Meanwhile, China is buying up millions of barrels of cheap oil and building up their national reserves in caves in central China.
-
WVU's President announced that the Big 12 won't be expanding. The P5 doesn't want to lose G5 schools as they lose cheaper home games and they were waiting if a Big12 expansion would open up spots for Idaho and NMSU and UMass. Expect a rule change this summer to allow FCS conference with orphan FBS teams to move up to FBS.

Does the hockey buzz help football recruiting or hurt it
SiouxVolley replied to Momster's topic in Football
Actually the women's bball team kicked off a series of chanpionships culminating with a football one. -
Surprising that the hockey championship was that high as it was on the deuce and Stephon Curry was on the main channel. ESPN must be very happy and surprised. The lone football game on ESPN should crack 2 mill just with TV zombies.
-
Lynn Helms, ND's oil czar, is forecasting that oil prices will double overnight near the end of 2016 or early 2017. He says Williston needs to continue planning for 80,000 people, as lower costs and faster drilling has made the Bakken even profitable now.
-
And I would at that at the feet of Kelley with Faison complicit in it. Kelley didn't want to do anything that would cause student to unfurl banners at hockey games demanding he resign. But not making the difficult but needed decisions at the time, Kelley's administration lacked integrity and nobody knew where they stood. Now they now. Seen the same situations in the corporate world. Lack of integrity causes chaos.

Minot St and Dickinson St (if they get academics right) have huge political backing and there was and is a need for normal schools. The others could have be two year schools. NDSSS is basically building a second campus in Fargo. Why couldn't that have been an existing campus Mayville or Valley City? In the future, it may be hard to stop Bismarck St and Williston St from moving to four year schools.
-
Canadians have never cared about U18, but once they hit juniors it's NFL-like. Hope this doesn't hurt the Ralph foundation much. UND athletics cannot take a $1.2 mill hit.

Tuition is different depending on state of residency or foreign. Scholarship costs reflect that. Minnesota residents get reciprocity as do many western states.
