What Faison failed to do was make tough PR decisions early. When UND gat the Big Sky bid, baseball and men's golf should have been cut then. Instead, Dodson is hired, the homerun derby winner happens, the USC wins happen. When the program most believes in itself through hard work, the news is sprung on them. IMHO, Faison was waiting years for a budget cut so he had a legitimate optics to cut baseball when a reason, the Big Sky, existed years ago. Kelley was probably part of the problem too, as he didn't want heat from cutting sports. A failure of leadership bites BF. Kelley didn't want to appear anti-athletics so hard decisions weren't made under his tenure. Faison in fairness probably had to a bite his lip.

Most of basketball budget are coaches pay everywhere else. We get by incredibly cheap with Jones.
-
That's pretty easy. 18 schollies vs 13 schollies. Idalski makes more than Jones. Men buckets get paid for guarantee games. Whockey gets nothing. BU, Quinn, UNH and Maine are probably similar. Womens rowing doesn't add to a FBS school, but they have to do it. Boat houses are expensive and those teams are massive. SDSU has equestrian which is a money pit.

All it would have taken is to forward the email to Steve Brekke, who deals with fundraising matters. That's Faison's job no matter how you spin it.

Doubt BF has enough time in ND to qualify for a pension, otherwise he might have put in for early retirement with some faculty. This is his last position.

A VP at St Jude Medical can be a very high donor.

BF has shown integrity lapses in the past. Witness the lack of truthfulness about the Sioux name in a phone conference with the other ADs BF said the other Big Sky AD's were really agitated and heated about the name when asked by GF HERALD reporters. Terry Wanless was then asked about it in an unrelated interview about it by a Fargo radio station and he said that the Sioux nickname was not mentioned at all. Terry is a man of integrity. BF will pursue the things he wants or that his bosses want. Ideas from left field are not welcome.

Denver is known to prefer the Big Sky over the Slummit. Face the facts that the Slummit is on thin ice with nine members. NMSU will not join the Slummit either if they have any other choice.
-
Smell a Big Sky split in football with 15 teams. NMSU would like to destroy the WAC (and they have the power to), which would give them a windfall of all Big Dance money where they were the representative. The Big Sky would want to keep the WAC alive to pawn off some teams.

He can deliver whatever He wills as it will be good. The tooth fairy won't. We perpetually underestimate what He can do, so we don't ask extravagant things, like the oil bonanza in the Bakken for the past seven years. The Heavenly Father gives extravagantly, but too often that isn't prayed.

Baseball is a sport that DII schools should have, but not DI schools if they don't have the facilities or a conference requiring it. If a minor league park was built near the Ralph or Alerus, that could be impetus to restart a program. DII schools should serve the region by giving an athlete a chance to compete intercollegiately. DI is more geared for excellence even if in niche areas.

Zack Muckenhirn had a really great tweet today, as he posted a letter last night/early morning telling how much the coaches and team meant to him. Best wishes to him and all the team and coaches as they go forward. Gratefulnees, not bitterness was emphasized, so Zack will have a meaningful future no matter what.

Yeah. I don't think for a minute that UND would get an affiliate Big Sky position in football if we went to the Slummit. The Big Sky gave Davis and Poly affiliate memberships, which accomplished two things: it forced USD and UND to later make a Big Sky full membership decision, and it kept the California schools from dropping football or keeping them from the WAC. They were in a time of major budget cuts.

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)

Some VP rats have been scurrying off the deck since Kelley left. A great sign. -
Many posters were begging UND to drop baseball and concentrate on other sports. They don't seem to post today.
-
Men's golf was 1.5 scholarships and seven athletes. Men's baseball was 5 scholarships and 29 athletes. Very tough situation for the players and coaches and alumni.

That's all a part of Title IX. One has to spend money on women's sports. You cant go cheap for women if you lavish the men's programs. UND would be in big trouble if it made Purpur Arena headquarters for the women's team, even though it may save cost. Would argue that the only additional costs for the women's team are scholarships and staff salaries. Otherwise, all the REA costs would only fall on the men's team. The Engelstad's endowed a good portion of the women's scholarships. Should we cross the Engelstads just to satisfy posters here?

The series with the goofs draws well, although this board won't admit it.
-
It would have caused all kinds of Title IX problems. Why not women's softball? Even that is needed now.
-
Really nothing but it looks good for academics and Presidents. It's who you associate with. But it's the one series that is a serious draw.
-
To Denver with their endowment, one million is pocket change. For NDSU it's real money.

My Heavenly Father can deliver anything and He is not a tooth fairy.

It was only looked at as on the cutting block on this forum. It is the only sport that has Big Ten members as associates. That's a big deal from an academic standpoint. Back before the 70's, women going to college was much less common that now, as women married earlier and had children earlier. Title IX was much easier numerically when it started.
