  1. exactly how does having hockey help the Sioux? are you that bad at statistics? given your line of thinking the Bison should add hockey because then they'll likely be in the top 25?
  2. two things you missed 1. Money, those are some of the most well endowed schools in the country 2. Your average population numbers are deceiving. Sure Harvard is in Cambridge population whatever, it also happens to be in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the nation. Anyone in NYC who wants to can make a weekend trip to Princeton or New Haven.
  3. Marshall News
  4. I don't know about the Devils Lake thing. I remember at a hockey game in the early nineties the cheer team put up a banner that said "The Spirit of Satan is Alive and Well in Devils Lake, ND". That's fiik9ng nuts!
  5. well when i was growing up on devils lake as a kid in the 80's they were worried the thing was going to go dry.
  6. sorry, i forgot about the vast bison wing conspiracy if the forum works as a pr firm for the ndsu athletic dept. they should ask for their money back
  7. that's a heck of a conspiracy theory star2city, do you read tea leaves too?
  8. it's not the letter that is present after ed's name it's the absence of two if not three
  9. pretty sure you're right about the F-16's heard that they are axing 20 units. with the hooligan's fighters being a little on the old side, it makes sense.
  10. that's especially true here in the northern great plains. the farmers are much more resistant to transgenic and pharmaceutical producing crops. i don't know if it's the abuse of the railroads causing distrust or if the corn/soybean crowd has been dealing with this a little longer than us. i wish agragen the best
  11. I don't remember Wisconsin-Green Bay visiting Fargo.
  12. 1. NDSU will not be adding hockey for at least a decade. 2. NDSU will make use of the facility, but it is not in their best interest for the measure to pass. That $40 million would go a lot further for a different facility especially one on campus. 3. "Burning through their funding".. that's funny
  13. I think there are few, if any, university presidents who are fanatical about their athletic teams, though they often give a different impression in order to garner financial and political support for their institution. (I know of a guy in Fargo who does this pretty much every day!) I don't see many academics who come up through ranks who don't see the large sums of money in the athletic department and don't say gee I could do some pretty cutting edge research or provide scholarships to non-athletes or have a nicer classroom with just a fraction of the money spent on the 'jocks' at one time or another. (They also see the occasional scandal or poor academic performance and shake their head)
  14. well you got me on one, but not the other just got done reading the herald story, UND had a nice batch of applicant to choose from http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/news/11398964.htm
  15. http://www.in-forum.com/ap/index.cfm?page=view&id=D89FGSAG0 Don't know the guy, but I wish him the best of luck. The last guy to take an higher administration job in North Dakota out of Montana State had (and still does have) his head screwed on straight with regards to research. I hope that this triggers a continuing expansion of research for UND. (On a down note, why the heck didn't you hire a Ph.D.?)
  16. not really, i was just trying, apparently poorly, to be a jerk! was speaking directly to the DI and Doctoral Extensive Classification issues.
  17. maybe I should post Chapman's State of the University addresses from the past five years, you guys are only about that far behind and looking into a downtown campus very innovative of course nothing says leadership like focusing on building a 19 million dollar parking ramp in all seriousness, I think that Kupchella is on the right track. And I think it would be a great benefit to the State if UND continues to mature into a world class research university. His top 50 is probably unattainable, but why not aim high? I don't know how it could be done, probably with a little 'help' from our congressional delegation, but UND is missing out big time in medical research dollars.
  18. i was using the letter k to represent 1,000 i think that ndsu is looking for 1) attention to the problem, which they are getting and then 2) a legitimate plan to address the problem the sooner, the better but i'm only guessing, one would have to ask the administration what they are looking for i'm sure they'd be happy to have $10,000,000 added to their base funding this year, but that probably isn't going to happen
  19. that's not quite right, in 2000 (or around then) they identified peers and their funding levels and have since adjusted those numbers using the CPI i agree that it's a tremendously flawed methodology, but that's what everyone uses UND also uses those numbers to gripe about their underfunding the number that matters, at least to me, is that NDSU gets about 1k less per student than UND, and substantially less than the smaller schools around the tune of 2-3k
