Enjoy your dance in semantics.

Did you read my two links? Feel free to claim ignorance, but it's a pretty poor excuse when one is spoon fed the information. When did I refer to any article? I definitely won't be citing an editorial. I went straight to the source. Here, I'll spell a word wrong so you guys have something other than the topic at hand to post about: ignoramous.

You're obviously no lawyer, though neither am I. Call it law, call it policy, it has the full force of the state behind it: http://www.ndus.nodak.edu/policies/sbhe-po...cy.asp?ref=2513 Here's the policy that Kupchella broke by establishing UND-Fargo: http://www.ndus.nodak.edu/policies/sbhe-po...cy.asp?ref=2406

maybe you should spend a few minutes and come up with a response instead of an ad hominem attack, or if you really don't care (which I don't think is the case) ignore the post this is especially funny as you spent most of last week attacking the Fargo press and putting the Herald on a pedistal. i just thought thought i bring up some of the quality journalism that is coming out of the herald.

No spin, just the facts. As hard as you were on me last week, I think I can finally call a spade a spade (hint: you're the spade). Fact 1. State law requires that the State Board of Higher Education regulate the creation of all new centers of higher learning. Fact 2. UND/Kupchella created "UND-Fargo" without permission. I don't know why the Herald brings Chapman's comments about this issue and the UNRELATED doctorate in education up. Isn't their something in psychology called deflection? At least this tripe was designated an editorial. If the Herald wanted a decent story how about: Good President/Bad President Chapman followed the rules in establishing the doctoral program in education, though he faced tough and legitimate competition. Kupchella, out of the blue, announces the creation of UND-Fargo knowing (I hope) that he'd never get permission from Bismarck (mainly since it was a pr stunt), thus breaking the rules!?!

talk about spin, no wonder i always read the herald for a good laugh when visiting my parents (who don't live in gf).

From today's Herald: North Dakota State University, UND's top rival, is in the Great West Football Conference in Division I-AA. The Bison are an independent in all other Division I sports. NDSU is seeking to become a Big Sky member. You guys planning on playing your top rival anytime in the next 50 years?
-
if you want membership in the big sky you'll also have to fully fund football, that's an additional 27 scholarships just for men and an equivalent number for women. That's $500,000 right there.

There's obviously more to it than that, but the March Madness Money Motivator is a big deal and it isn't 10 teams, its 7 . If all they wanted to do was add a team, they'd probably just call up Southern Utah and be done with it. But the Thunderbirds are in the middle of nowhere and don't have a strong commitment to academics. UND/Montana Tech do happen to be at the bottom of the list in this ONE category, if the list includes SUU, UNC, NDSU/SDSU, UND/Montana Tech (in that order). There are clearly other important factors.

My point is this is the things that people who follow the "Mainstream Media" hear. I was stunned when I heard it, but I didn't think he was lying (maybe a little bit). Thought I'd match PCM's 'spin' with another term from political punditry.

I think that the Big Sky is seriously concerned that they may lose some members in the next few years, possibly before NDSU/SDSU would be full fledged members of Division 1. Answer this question, what do you think is more important to the Big Sky, losing $$$ because they don't have enough eligible members or the REA. Losing millions of dollars is probably a pretty big deal to the conference.

Why don't you attack my posts instead of me? You're obviously doing just fine with your posts as well. Steve Hallstrom in an October broadcast of the 10 o'clock news stated that Harmeson had told him point blank that UND was not pursuing DI at the time. Attack Hallstrom, hell attack me (for the third time today), but that's the kind of news (and flip flops) we've been hearing for the last three years. If it's wrong please correct it, but quit being such a jerk.

? Quit being so tough on my posts How about Fact: UND did not pursue hosting the D2 championship because they don't have the resources. Opinion: I believe that UND is going to have a heck of a time making the transition. IF THEY DO they need to give their athletic department more help. Opinion: I believe that UND is thoroughly confused on the matter, given the Fact: they decided just two weeks before the deadline to express INTEREST in the Big Sky and now must RUSH to finish the paperwork. my original post, which obviously didn't meet your high standards, PCM, meant they can't complete the paperwork for the Championship, but they are CONSIDERING doing something that will require many times the amount of work
-
I just read on another thread that UND decided not pursue hosting the D2 Football championship because they didn't have the resources to complete the paperwork, as opposed to it being because they may be pursuing D1. UND doesn't have the manpower to fill out a form, but is ready to make the transition to D1???

Sicatoka, I think it would be fair to say something to the effect, the Big Sky will expand if it makes the conference better as decided upon by the University Presidents. For your (a) (b) I don't think it's either/or or a ranking. I think that NDSU/SDSU get more points for being further along than UND, as does UNC over NDSU/SDSU and SUU over the lot. I also think that all schools save UND get much more attention as they have already made the commitment, they are/will be DI schools. This is even more important as the Big Sky needs a minimum of 7 full status members of D1 to retain their March Madness berth ($$$). SUU is the only school that has been around long enough to jump that hurdle, then UNC, then the SU's. I think that is a very big deal to the Big Sky, probably the main reason why they are considering expansion. I don't think (b) matters that much as the only school who potentially doesn't fit the mold is SUU. The transition period is a minor detail, making a commitment to D1 is huge. The fact that UND didn't fill out paper work by the first thus lengthening their transition period by at least a year doesn't yell commitment to D1 to me.

Sicatoka, I believe it's '06-07 at the absolute earliest, most likely one or two years later. One issue is that UND is four years behind UNC and 3 behind NDSU and SDSU as far as playoff/tournament eligibility. Considering that all that had to be done was fill out a form, I'm surprised UND didn't do it, especially since it would definitely be possible for the WBB and Football teams to be in position to make the playoffs. NDSU had a very good team this year, UNC save this year has had quality teams for the last seven seasons or so. To go from being a National Championship quality team, like UNC was, to being rated in the top 25 isn't that big of a switch. Now the difference between NDSU or UNC and a Georgia Southern night and day, they'd probably tag 40 on us and we'd be lucky to score more than once. PCM, didn't mean to get you too riled up. I've been watching the administration pretty closely for about three years and imo UND has been anything but clear about their possible move. Feel free to disagree, I'm not trying to spin anything.

Not in the NCC, that's a dead end job. A step up would be AD at a bigger school.
-
So UND has been completely upfront about their intentions? one day your President composes a derogatory letter about DI and DIAA football. Soon after you tell the Big Sky you're interested, kind of. Also, there is nothing wrong with declaring a transition and then not moving save a few upset alums and fans. I believe that if UND really did have strong intentions they would have filed the paperwork before the first of the year.

I think Roger Thomas applying for a job makes it look like their are problems.
