  1. No explanation for students, but the fact that this was opening weekend for GFYHA play couldn't have helped vis-a-vis area families. Looked like there were games back-to-back-to-back at ICON all day.
  2. Hit Scotty's Deli (a/k/a Al's Lite) on South Washington for lunch today. Some familiar menu items (for those of you who frequented Al's) including several sandwiches and wraps, and the service was good. Seating felt sparse (nothing fancy about the furniture), and couldn't quite get over the 'Pita Pit/I've been here before' feeling, but overall a good experience. Interesting tidbit...only bottled sodas, so if you are a frequent re-filler at the fountain, you'll need to pace yourself or pony up.
  3. Run your business like a destination, and people will find their way there. As for "casual" grocery shoppers? "Hornbachers" enjoys zero brand recognition outside of FM, so I'm not sure they're going to draw folks in off the street on building signage alone. That location kind of sucks for visibility anyway…stuff's built up all cattywampus on that lot.
  4. http://www.wdaz.com/news/north-dakota/3881793-hornbachers-blocks-new-business-moving Doesn't say much for the business climate and welcoming new development. Although I'm not sure I would have picked that spot in that lot for a new restaurant.
  5. With the melting polar ice caps and all, you never know. Still seems more likely than thousands of UND students and alumni being as gullible as some think.
  6. Risk of injuries >>> fun quotient. I'm surprised that the Manitoba games get as physical as they do, but the Bisons probably feel they have something to prove. (For the record, I agree with you that it would be cool.)
  7. Maybe the "fight" is the institution's ongoing struggle with Multiple Personality Disorder.
  8. Not quarreling with you, but I find the opposite. Which is very interesting, and confusing. At http://www.umeshawks.com/genrel/mdes-genrel.html (a listing of 12+ years worth of press releases), the word "Fighting" appears once. At http://www.umeshawks.com/ot/mdes-store.html (the online store), there are zero instances of "Fighting". Same for the school bio on the athletics page (http://www.umeshawks.com/school-bio/mdes-school-bio.html) and media relations page (http://www.umeshawks.com/media-relations/mdes-media-relations.html). Is this the ultimate identity crisis or what?
  9. Interesting. Per Wikipedia, they are officially the "Hawks." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Maryland_Eastern_Shore Do you have a source?
  10. Doesn't say much for UND and the caliber of the people it attracts (and educates). But it certainly does make it easy to shrug your shoulders and say that those folks deserve whatever is coming their way.
  11. Not sure that UND wants or needs students who would honestly believe that to have been the case. Lux et Lex et Gullibility?
  12. Like all of you, I have seen the litany of anecdotal 'evidence' about this, but I am not convinced. Any remotely informed voter would know that logos are not yet on the table, and to buy into this line of thinking would call into question the baseline intelligence of an insane number of your peers (students, alumni, etc.). Is anyone prepared to admit that the UND community is collectively that stupid?
  13. Don't forget that none of this was of the fans' making. And lightning seldom strikes twice. A proud nickname and tradition are almost impossible to duplicate. Besides, just how exciting is your team's name that you feel so empowered to criticize?
  14. And would anyone have guessed the level of disconnect between this site and the UND community at large? Posters on here tend to be a zealous lot, naturally, but I am surprised how little predictive value these discussions have had. Maybe we sports fans are truly on the fringe.
  15. FYP.
  16. A soldier would do nicely. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hawk?s=t
  17. Pick an old guy with COPD as your mascot, call him Loogie, and yes...yes, it is.
  18. 3rd star to the league office for the clutch suspension.
  19. I was going for Schlossman.
  20. I don't know. Somebody called it a trap game on here the other day and was promptly rebuked.
  21. Nice commentary on the state of Wisconsin hockey.
  22. I'm going to assume that reply was directed at me. Yes, I do watch college sports. And while I agree that there are some shite examples out there of Adidas uni's, I have no way of knowing whether those are the result of Adidas' bad design choices, or the school simply having way too much input in the process. Short of seeing what Adidas considers their in-house, team design portfolio, I am reluctant to accept your bare assertion that they are "terrible." Heck, you may be right, I just want to see for myself.
  23. Examples? And you can't just point to team uni's unless you can show that the team wasn't involved in the design.
