19th edition of the Icebreaker, one of the "top showcase events" for the sport, and options for live media coverage are virtually nil. So much for building the brand of college hockey. Maybe they'll pull out some stops for the big 2-0 next year in Denver.

Good God. For $400, some folks who live near campus should be willing to provide a driveway and door-to-door chauffeur services. What is that...18 home games?

Band and pregame video playing over each other right now. Tacky, and embarrassing. (We'll, it would be embarrassing if there were any non-die hards here.)

Speaking of LJS' demise (in poking around, I see that the store in Sioux Falls closed last year), it is safe to say that the fast food game has permanently changed. Yet among the new and rising stars in the quick-serve universe (pick your list, they're all over the internet), it doesn't seem that GF is on anyone's radar. (Heck, we didn't even get a Panera until very recently, and they were old news.) Same for casual restaurants. Should we even hold out hope?

At least we don't have to envy Fargo's Long John Silver's any longer. http://www.inforum.com/business/3847278-inside-business-dickeys-barbecue-pit-aw-close-fargo But those one-hour runs for Fish'n More are history.

http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/business/3846044-around-town-chipotle-style-burrito-bar-replace-sweeto-burrito So, we're replacing a young, start-up chain burrito restaurant with a one-off owned and conceived by a man who "specializes in frozen burritos." One must maintain optimism.

I heard your team needed a name. So many choices, far too lame. NCAA says 'birds must be plucked.' Now UND is really...

UND Athletics High Performance Center

That's going to become a trail of tears once the new nickname is announced. Part of the campus master flood control plan. -

At this point, all bison73 has done is to make Rob Port look like a genius by comparison. At least SAB cites sources, posts documents, and tries to spin anti-UND venom into something reasonably coherent. "UND doesn't pay its bills. [sticks thumbs in ears] I win!" -
Does an affiliate have to get dispensation from the Vatican to pre-empt Notre Dame football?
-
Only slightly off topic, but I saw Black Mass last night, and it would be an excellent way to decompress after a long day watching football. Great movie!

I don't watch these guys as much as I have in the past, but that segment was poorly thought out and the execution was even worse. Either take on the NA nickname issue head-on (like journalists), spend some time on the nickname process (could be an interesting story, especially for fans who can't fathom their own school having to do so), or leave it alone. Half-assed ad libbing and sorry attempts at humor - at the expense of an FCS team with virtually no national footprint - are should be beneath ESPN.

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname

FYP with the unabridged title of that masterpiece. -

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. On the other hand, the logo possibilities are endless. -
+ 1 for the most brutally honest statement on this topic, ever. Now, if only some of the more outspoken posters here would take a moment and reflect on the importance of details. (Graduates of the Marlan Haakenson School of Law, Good Sense, and DecorumSM are excused.)

Sorry to nit-pick, but the fact that you refer to "copyright" is the very reason why the public needs to be spoon-fed. Names aren't copyrightable; this is the domain of trademark law. And while every user of a non-original, non-unique trademark may run the risk of infringing another's rights, permission is never required. At the same time, you should read that story as a juxtaposition against the nonsense coming out of Bismarck on Monday, not as a law school lesson.

http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3839825-sundog-interactive-und-can-use-our-nickname-if-it-wantsFinally, a voice of reason. THIS is how rational, sane and informed business owners (and citizens) behave. No hijinks, no threats, no subtle demands, only the healthy realization that they may own a "trademark" but they don't own the English language. The smart ones even recognize the potential for a huge UP-side. Some of you should take note...
-
How? Registered a trade name it doesn't need? (Hint: UND is going to continue to be known and do business as the "University of North Dakota.") Registered a trademark it isn't using? (Hint: All UND has is a list of five potential candidates for adoption and no present intent to use any of them, even though it might intend to use one of them.) Please enlighten the masses, oh sage one. We're dying to hear your proposed solutions.
-
You may be missing the point. It's a little hard to "register" that which you are not using. Yet, this yahoo goes and files papers with the state claiming to be engaging in the real estate business under all three names, admittedly for the sole purpose of sabotaging the University's nickname process. Kind of makes one wonder whether the whole thing is a sham but who knows, maybe he really is branching out with three new start-ups and wants to compete with himself in the marketplace. Last I checked, filing bogus papers with the government was somewhat frowned upon.
-
No, but UND's closet dream of opening up a personal real estate agency in North Dakota just took a massive hit.

Seemed forced, poorly thought out, and altogether kind of hacky. Too much borrowing from REA, and too little originality, methinks.

Is it even possible for Verizon's signal at the Alerus to have gotten worse? Ugh.

UND Athletics High Performance Center
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to GeauxSioux's topic in Other Sports
Deficit or no, UND has got to bear down and get its own truck. This $39.95 U-Haul thing just doesn't look right, or befitting of a serious program.
