Not sure which thread is best to post this question, but... Does anyone have a list of the top 20ish 06 and 07 recruits? (I know there is Schlossman's list, but I understand that to be a mix a high-end talent, players UND will be pursuing, and more local names. I am wondering if there is more objective (to the extent possible) list of the top recruits out there).

Correct. Ford got an "A" in January. I guess the way I see it, if an underclassmen was not going to wear an "A", then the options were either a Transfer or Ness/Kunz--two players who struggled for ice time and actually played less games last year than the season before. You want your captains on the ice. A Transfer "A" just makes a whole lot of sense to me in this scenario.

Hope so. But it’s not like there was a wealth of players to choose from. With the roster turnover, Ness and Kunz were the only other 2 returning upperclassman. Everyone else is freshman, sophomore, or transfer.

2016 team had 11 players spend time in the NHL. Not bad.

100% Some blue chips on those teams at the time that’s for sure. 2005-2006 had six first rounders: stafford; zajac; lee; oshie; finley; and toews, and chorney (36th overall) and smaby (41st) weren’t too far behind.

My understanding is Olimb coached one season, which resulted in a 24-4-4 record and a state title game appearance. I’m not in the know, so serious question, what exactly did he do wrong or why is he not considered a good enough coach?

Nice. They’ve lost their top 3 1st rounders—Fantilli, Hughes, and Samoskevich— but still have McGroarty and Nazar. Are they bringing in another arsenal of 1st rounders or is Michigan’s window on their insane recruiting pulls over the last few years starting to close?

Thank you! So more along the lines of a higher tier team relocating to new city and using that new city’s current name.

BHB still under the microscope? It’s embarrassing to see how much charitable money they raise that goes towards perhaps members’ pet projects instead of hockey.

Get Arizona State as a member already, even if they end up leaving down the road. We’re in a conference with Stearns County State right now, and I believe the only other school to apply has been Mankato State. If that’s the route we want to take, NCHC might as well invite Augustana and help Morningside College establish a team and rename itself the North Central Conference hockey league.

No, that’s why I brought up Kris Engelstad. My comments have nothing to do with the Big 10’s success on the ice but everything to do with the fact that those schools produce alumni at a rate of 4:1 compared to UND. And I bet if you were to look, you’d find that a Michigan or Wisconsin grad, for example, makes more on average than one from UND too.

Don’t disagree with most comments. Would be great for UND to become more self sufficient without Engelstad money but the fact is that UND does not have the alumni base to compete with Big 10 schools in this new era of college athletics.

Which one’s Tychonick?

I know there’s various opinions on the Engelstad’s and REA’s influence at UND, but the Engelstads would definitely be one source someone should be trying to leverage NIL opportunities from.

I hope you or someone translates those ideas into action, and I will contribute the first $400/month. But, the size of alumni base is where I also think UND losses in the long run. For everyone UND grad, BIG 10 schools have 4-5 grads that can contribute to NIL funding.

Not sure much can be done. Marketing of a player’s name, image, or likeness includes “appearance fees”. NIL allows individuals or corporate boosters to launder money to athletes by simply having them come shake some hands and take some photographs at a back yard meet and great.
