  1. Was pleasantly surprised with both their freshman performances. And as later round draft picks at the time, thought they could both end up as 20+ goal, 40+ point players for the Sioux as seniors. Welp, here we are …
  2. Depends on the sport. Also, Memphis isn't P5 to begin with, either.
  3. Gotcha. Yeah, that aspect makes sense. To your point, there might be higher ROI with billboards than having a Sioux player promoting your sandwiches on twitter.
  4. At the time, Denver Post reported the reason for Gwoz's firing was both lack of postseason success (5 first round losses in 6 season despite 12 consecutive 20+ win seasons) and inability to reach an agreement on an extension.
  5. Isn't there a qui-pro-quo for the business, though? I thought the idea behind Name, Image, and Likeness was that athletes could sell their Name, Image, and Likeness to a business in exchange for money. For example, the Tellmans give $X to the collective so long as Sioux players appear in a Red Pepper commercial; or every Friday night Cameron Berg needs to send out a tweet telling the drunk hockey crowd to pick up a Grinder After the Game; etc.
  6. Right, for sure taxes are getting paid. I guess I was just wondering if Kunz was literally a "private employee" or, more likely, a 1099 independent contractor.
  7. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39974973/fedex-pledges-25m-5-years-nil-program-memphis UND's collective is going to need a lot of folks to kick in the $25 bucks a month to compete with some of these other schools. I fear the truth of the matter is that UND does not have a large enough alumni base nor is there a significant enough corporate presence in Grand Forks, North Dakota to enable UND to compete whatsoever in the NIL game.
  8. So w-2s are issued to recipients of NIL funds, and the NIL collectives have to pay payroll taxes?
  9. Things got so “awful”, in fact, that Denver had to fire a revered head coach to get their ship turned back around. Hope it doesn’t need to come to that around here.
  10. Back in 2011, @redwing wrote this blog post on Goons World and it kind of seems like we've been here before. Some of the same themes have reappeared. Well this theme sure hasn't reappeared around UND the last 8 years.
  11. Lol. Besides him, I wonder if there are any other college players born in the 1990s? That is too funny.
  12. Sounds like a team a lot of us around here follow.
  13. I’ve started wondering the same thing.
  14. Berry needs to win an NCAA game before he loses another one. That’s my metric going forward. The 2016 title brought Berry a lot of goodwill and capital. But he’s squandered all of it over the past 8 seasons. If UND is not playing in the Fargo regional championship in March 2025, then it’s time for a change.
  15. But then again, you’re talking about a fanbase that’s never experienced a 20-year title drought before, let alone 3 separate ones, in its program’s history.
  16. Bucci is more interested in making some extra cash by hawking products that say “cawlidge hockey” than he is about actual college hockey.
  17. To your point, when people read ESPN today, they will be left with the understanding that college hockey titans are Denver (10), Michigan (9), Wisconsin (6), and the Boston schools tied at fourth with five titles a piece. I guess I’ll hang my hat on the fact they forgot Minnesota too, but no mention of North Dakota’s 8 titles?
  18. It wouldn’t be. But after all, SIOUXELEVENS was talking about UND’s current coach, Brad Berry, who can’t even claim to have NCAA tournament wins over the last 8 seasons like some of those blue bloods.
  19. If fans were calling for Hakstol’s job due to lack of frozen four success it only makes sense for them to call for Berry’s job due to lack of NCAA tournament success altogether. In their eyes, the program has taken a step backwards. I haven’t seen anyone advocate for post season win banners, lol. They would, however, at least like to see the program get back to winning some NCAA playoff games. I know it’s the buzzword of the day, but I don’t see this as gaslighting at all. Their arguments are consistent.
  20. Duluth football: 3 seasons before Bubba: 28-7 4 following seasons with Bubba: 22-21 3 seasons following Bubba: 41-2 Hindsight is 20/20, sure. But still can’t believe we hired that doofus over DeBoer to begin with, let alone the fact we extended him after last season. I agree with you. With this athletic department, Berry ain’t going nowhere.
  21. Dear NHL: please hire David Carle.
  22. Agreed it couldn’t have helped. It didn’t seem to hurt that much either, tough. We outshot them 40-20. (26-9 in the last 2 frames). Just could never get the goal we needed. They score the empty net, and we lose 2-0. I remember being at the game at feeling entirely confident we would win until 5 minutes left when time started running out.
  23. No crap. Remember when DU’s weak goaltending was going to be their downfall this season …
  24. Thanks! Any reason he didn't play USHL? Perhaps needed to stay in school to become re-eligble? Just curious, if you know.
  25. Not sure which thread this fits best in (do mods feel free to move), but whatever happened to Cole Spicer this Spring? Thought Youngstown had his rights, but I can't find that he actually played for them or anywhere else, for that matter. Curious to know where things are headed for him.
