  1. BHB still under the microscope? It’s embarrassing to see how much charitable money they raise that goes towards perhaps members’ pet projects instead of hockey.
  2. Get Arizona State as a member already, even if they end up leaving down the road. We’re in a conference with Stearns County State right now, and I believe the only other school to apply has been Mankato State. If that’s the route we want to take, NCHC might as well invite Augustana and help Morningside College establish a team and rename itself the North Central Conference hockey league.
  3. No, that’s why I brought up Kris Engelstad. My comments have nothing to do with the Big 10’s success on the ice but everything to do with the fact that those schools produce alumni at a rate of 4:1 compared to UND. And I bet if you were to look, you’d find that a Michigan or Wisconsin grad, for example, makes more on average than one from UND too.
  4. Don’t disagree with most comments. Would be great for UND to become more self sufficient without Engelstad money but the fact is that UND does not have the alumni base to compete with Big 10 schools in this new era of college athletics.
  5. I know there’s various opinions on the Engelstad’s and REA’s influence at UND, but the Engelstads would definitely be one source someone should be trying to leverage NIL opportunities from.
  6. I hope you or someone translates those ideas into action, and I will contribute the first $400/month. But, the size of alumni base is where I also think UND losses in the long run. For everyone UND grad, BIG 10 schools have 4-5 grads that can contribute to NIL funding.
  7. Not sure much can be done. Marketing of a player’s name, image, or likeness includes “appearance fees”. NIL allows individuals or corporate boosters to launder money to athletes by simply having them come shake some hands and take some photographs at a back yard meet and great.
  8. Yes, I think Duluth ended up sneaking in over Minnesota, and we were the second team left out. The end of the 2018 season is an indelible memory for me for no other reason than it was the first time since 2003 I didn’t watch team make it to regionals. Now it’s starting to feel routine. Gone are the days of the Hakstol era where it’d almost be a given that the Sioux we’re playing in a regional final no matter what.
  9. Yup. They won as the final 3rd seed (12th in pairwise) that year.
  10. It was actually the NCHC third place game, and perhaps Duluth was already looking ahead to that NCAA tournament. But I get your point.
  11. So you’re saying all I need do to is “talk to potential recruits” and try to steer them toward the Gophers, and Minnesota hockey will be hit with recruiting violations? Why don’t we do the same to Denver and Michigan while we’re at it!
  12. Agree. NCAA tournament-bound Ohio State worked out well for its current leading scorer, Freshman Stephen Halliday.
  13. Dare I say Brent Johnson put up decent offensive numbers (1-5–6) in only 13 games and had the third highest +\- of any defenseman this year for UND.
  14. I agree it’s not the result I want, and it’s already happened with Blaisdell. But FWIW, Chris Wilkie, Wade Murphy, and Mike Cichy all transferred out of UND when you still had to sit a season. Brett Bruneteau transferred, but I believe he had graduated.
  15. Berry has squandered the opportunities of the 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 frickin’ Fargo, North Dakota regionals.
  16. But what do you when the Sioux play the evening of April 8th for the national championship at the same time RHCP take the stage?!?!
  17. Get out of Fargo. Imagine being told after the first regional in Fargo that UND would host again in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 but only manage to win ONE game?
  18. Good to know. Hate to say it, but I’d rather it be an injury issue than regression in play or character issues.
  19. Don’t disagree that he fell out of favor, obviously. Why keep him around if it was an off ice issue? The same reason they kept TJ Oshie, Jonathan Toews, Robbie Bina, Matt Greene, and countless other players with off ice issues around and recruited players like Brandon Bochenski—they’re good at hockey. Not every discipline issue requires a Matt Frattin, Mitchell Miller, or Luke Voltin type response. But we only recruit “character” players anyway.
