  1. I agree with you. Why not get the practices in, make some money, and get some of the young guys game experience. Two potential answers: the first is the risk of media backlash when players inevitably test positive, and the potential for litigation as a result, as well as the potential image that UND doesn't care about it's players. The second is that Chaves didn't think that UND would be able to follow the NCAA rules in regard to covid testing, and he expressed this concern in his most recent podcasts. UND has tried to buy the testing equipment needed so that the athletic department could test in-house, but they were unable to buy the necessary equipment needed to turn test around in a short time frame, because that equipment was being sent by the companies to locations that have been hit harder by covid. Chaves did not want to half-assed follow the NCAA guidelines and ask for forgiveness later. The third wild card answer is what did the players want to do? Were a significant portion of them opposed to playing, and would they have felt "used" for a money grab? This would be another risk for negative press, and it could hurt team morale. For the record, I think this whole thing is overblown, and every team should play in the fall, but there are legit reasons for cancelling the fall season, and Chaives may think not playing is BS as well, but the risk just isn't worth the reward.
  2. Trump may lie, but all politicians do, they just don't make it so obvious, and they lie to their constituents, rather than to the media about bs things like crowd size, and why people were fired, etc. To Trumps credit, he actually tries to follow through with the campaign promises that he has made to his base. The same goes for Rand Paul, Bernie Sanders, and Ted Cruz. I'd take someone like Trump any day, and although he lies, he doesn't lie to his constituents about what really matters: the goals that he wants to accomplish. I'd take a person like Trump or any of the above over a flip-flopper like Biden, Romney, Hillary, Rubio, Biden, Warren, etc, any day of the week, because at least they try to follow through on their campaign promises. Trump may lie to change talking points or to distract the media, but he never lies to disguise what he is actually trying to accomplish. A good example of this would be when he spoke highly of Kim Jung Un, in an effort to make a peace deal. Or when he has violent rhetoric towards that same man, or Iran, but if you look at what he actually DOES, vs what he says, he always does his best to act in a way that forwards the promises that he made to his constituents. Despite his war rhetoric, the amount of activity the US military has seen overseas, policing the world, has gone way down, there aren't any new conflicts, and it is in complete contrast to the last few presidents. Look at Biden's voting history compared to what he apparently stands for now - that man is the real definition of a phony liar.
  3. I never understood giving money back. Why would you want to essentially give a guy like that 40 million?
  4. Whats to stop them? If they could do team workouts etc, how are team practices any more unsafe? Is there an ncaa rule on this?
  5. The only response to his tweet makes the most sense to me. If you think you can do it safely... make up for lost practice time in the spring.
  6. Wow! That is going up fast! Thanks for posting for those of us who cannot see this stuff in person.
  7. This. Wasn't it science? We should trust the scientists, right? If the same amount of people are going to get the virus no matter what, we should open everything up until hospitals are nearly full and get this thing over with.
  8. I think this team has TONS of potential for success this year. OL has got to be better than last year, given that we have pretty much the same guys, only they aren't coming off a summer of dieting. The link should get more push, and I think Otis is better than anyone who played last year, especially with the little push the OL got. So OL and RB are improved (Skokna looked great at the end of the year as well). CB's are stacked. Noah Larson and Jaxson Turner are studs at linebacker and we are have a bunch of young guys who could make a splash there. Receivers have tons of potential and should be faster. If Schuster wins the QB job, I think we will have a QB who is smarter, more accurate, and a better scrambler than what we had last year. DL lost Bennet, but the rest of the guys gained a TON of weight - with how light they were last year, they have potential to be better as a unit as well, despite the loss of Bennet.
  9. Not sure, but you would have to think that this hurts NDSU more than anyone, since they have pretty much been getting whoever they want. Only now they will not have as much film on recruits, which will make "misses" more likely, especially if kids continue to get offers and make commitments in the fall.
  10. I'd guess they are waiting for an official decision on what attendance will look like. I'd have to guess that tailgating is off the table though.
  11. Did UND ever release a spring depth chart?
  12. Good to see Kansas was rescheduling as well... Good sign for Big 12 (and our kansas state game).
  13. Every game I ever went to with my buddies, they complained about the lack of a mid field logo and how it killed the vibe. Picky friends, but the lack of a logo was very bush league, and I agree that it defiantly has an affect on the perception of the program.. Most MVFC teams do not have the MVFC logo on the field correct? Although the MVFC logo looks kinda big and in your face, they must have chosen to add it for branding purposes, right? People in the area know the MVFC, and they want to make sure that everyone who is watching knows that UND is a MVFC team? Other than that, I wouldn't get why that logo is so big. Lastly, the diagram shows the potential for two more sponsor logo's to be added, but I believe this is against the rules, as only 4 logo's besides the 50 yard line logo are allowed. Am I wrong here? https://www.ruletool.info/ncaa-rule-1-the-game-field-players-and-equipment/2/ Overall, I LOVE IT! And I like the alternating colors every five yards. It is subtle, but it is more similar to real grass, and it helps with depth perception even though it isn't that noticeable. Look at a picture of the new turf and our old turf side by side for instance. Beats the fields below IMO:
  14. With Rogers gone, Noah Larson will be a first teamer. Great value pick if we're betting.
  15. Holy buckets! Nice work Sather. Glad to see that part about rebounds and especially taking care of the ball. Our turnover numbers and ball control really need to improve, and it sounds like Bruns will help! And he's already 6'3" - could still grow a bit! Thanks for posting this.
  16. 47% isn't bad, especially for an FCS or G5 school. After throwing everything in excel, UND is at about 16.2 million in revenue (not counting allocated funds) which is good for 76th in the country out of 227. This doesn't even count suit or concessions sales at the ralph.
  17. Not sure if Sioux Volley posted this yet. But new arena plans in Henderson Nevada. Not sure if it's close enough for UNLV to seriously consider using. https://jlgice.com/projects/henderson-silver-knights/
  18. Thanks for the update.
  19. Is construction in progress on the Argyle and 4th street apartments?
  20. Nailed it! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Not sure that would be the case if the buyout is waived. Aren't there already rumors that Miami wants out, as is? I like the status quo, though, and the optics of having the Mac teams in our conference.
  22. Anyone know DU's opinion on this? Curious more than anything. I think if this happened, it would really help Bemidji, and The gophers would be the odd man out with all the MN schools in one conference, which would make recruiting MN kids more difficult for him. If St. Thomas, Mankato, and Bemidji all joined and the Mac teams left, the conference tourney would be pretty damn Amazing again, and the Gophs would be missing out. That said, change like that scares me with how well the NCHC is currently doing. Would it affect the CBS Sports Network deal without the MAC teams?
  23. Doubt it. Everyone involved wants 100% of the revenue potential, meaning UND, the Ralph, and the Hall of Fame. My money is on the event being postponed a year.
  24. ? It was football headquarters.
