Wonder who the CBSSN broadcasters will be? Will they be the same for all games, or different, depending on the venue? Would be nice for CBSSN if they could do a basketball and hockey game with Heinert on the same day id assume?

Correct, but SLN is also Midco Sports Plus.

ESPN3 is. ESPN+ is not.

Whenever the new overpass/ramps get built on 29, I think that will help to spur development. Bizarre how little access there is to/from I29 for Grand Forks. Are the Canadians finally coming back into town in large numbers? Perhaps that could do it.. I'm guessing covid and border issues put a huge damper on things. There any statistics on how much they contribute to the local economy, historically?

Yeah I agree with you. I really think the best option would be to start a new FBS conference if that's what the schools in our area want. I don't think the NCAA would try to block it considering how geography is pretty much the only reason NDSU hasn't gotten an FBS invite yet. Current NCAA rules requiring a conf invite are, in practice, restricting competition based on geography, which is a antitrust violation. Just look at the profiles of the recent FCS move ups vs the Dakota's and Montana schools. An FBS conference with some version of current FCS schools like these would probably be the most sustainable as well, and the schools could also approach a TV deal with a more local, rather than national strategy, as this could help the schools to maximize tv revenue while mantaining weekend games. The Montana Schools would make deals with Scripps for example, NDSU could keep their deal with WDAY, and the Dakota schools could continue with Midco. Other schools could work with rsn's or local TV. League would combine rights for streaming and Nationally televised games only, similar to the NCHC. Do I think FBS is worth all that hassle? Not right now, especially now since the PAC imploding could change the current CFP plans (CFP could effectively become P4 only because all those schools care about is money). I think looking into something like this would be a better approach to FBS than some far flung conference. Goal should be a regional conference with MAC-like stability. I just don't get the appeal of FBS right now though... look at Boise as the perfect example.. had a good season and ended up playing in a half empty Frisco Bowl. Woopeeee. To be honest, I kinda think NDSU wants to sandbag it in FCS anyway. If they really wanted to move up, they would have tried to replicate the move Liberty made.

Not trying to make a positive into a negative, for the record. The current plan is exciting and it will do wonders for the program. Still very exciting stuff and I am happy UND was able to make it work given the current economic realities.

I can see how that could have been an issue, but would it have been unresolvable? I don't know whether or not they seriously looked at changing the plans once the decision was made to incorporate some of the Athletic Department stuff into Memorial Village. I'm assuming they didn't but hopefully I'm wrong.

Agreed. I'm not sure the Hawkway will be built right away either. Really wish they would have built the Pollard 2 addition east to west, to connect Pollard Center to Memorial Village (shifting the field south). Hawkway is a waste of money, imo. https://www.grandforksgov.com/government/city-departments/planning-zoning/planning-projects http://www.gfgis.com/raster/siteplans/pollardadd.pdf

This is more recent.

On vacation. What are you pointing out?

I could be wrong but I don't think Pell grant $$$ is included in the knight data (taken from ncaa financial reports). Treatment of FCOA could also potentially be different.

Not sure. Also not sure why this info isn't super easy to find!

If the entire MWC joins Wazzu and Oregon State in the PAC12, would that group of schools get to keep the NCAA unites earned from both conferences? That could be a reason for the remaining PAC schools to invite everyone, rather than to leave a school like Wyoming to rebuild the Mountain West.

Fargo press are such hacks. No mention of Alston and "Illinois State was the first Missouri Valley Football Conference school to announce a collective almost one year ago, which is called "Empower The Nest." It is overseen by a board of directors of program supporters. It is believed no other Valley school has formed one." Pretty sure Penguin Collective is an NIL collective as well. Took two seconds to find. https://www.thepenguincollective.org/ also https://salukinil.org/ also https://www.on3.com/nil/collectives/crossroad-of-champions-314/ NDSU is hardly leading the charge on this, despite the article making it sound that way.

SDSU isn't publicly pounding the table for a FBS move. Why do you say they are overestimating their situation? How do you know what they think of their situation?
-
-
I don't think they would add any Pac schools. If there are only a couple left, they will all join Wazzu and Oregon State so they can use the Pac12 name and branding. Do the conference bylaws address anything about the conference being disbanded if membership drops below a certain number? Pretty sure if the entire MWC joins the PAC12 and if the MWC ceases to exist, they would retain NCAA basketball credits earned from both conferences.
-
Of course not. That doesn't mean the bowl system is a good format. Could care less about TV. Besides, FCS teams are on ESPN once or twice in addition to ABC, so not sure I get your point about ESPN.

Pretty funny that boise played in an empty Frisco Bowl last year. G5 post season is pointless.

Could Grand Forks build and operate a national drone museum? Would have synergies with UND, Grand Sky, and the Air Force base. Would help with branding Grand Forks as the center of the drone industry. I googled it, and found this museum, which is dedicated to US military drones. https://www.auvm.net/ Could be something for people to go to while in town, and they could learn about the drone industry here while they are there.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
