That is the one thing that I have never understood why Sauter hasn't quite locked down SW Minnesota for football, especially Marshall (now that the HS team is becoming more and more respectable). He does a good job in getting kids in the outstate, and raiding the Sioux Falls Metro for the ones who don't go to Augie or USF. I think he lets a few too many local kids, who could be difference makers, slip through the cracks. However, I think he will be the guy that gets the job done in the long run. They haven't had much success since they were in NAIA and Meierkort was running the D. The biggest excuse I always heard was that Matke was not up to NSIC standards, it was old. Now they have the newer REC (since 2008), which is right up there stadium wise in the NSIC. The Volleyball and MBB teams have the right forumla where they raid the cities, but they lock down a lot of local kids. They also have two coaches in Culhane and Bigler who understand the area and can get those players. The bball team should be exciting as they should compete for a NSIC and Regional title. Of course there will be a lot of people behind Biegler after what happened to him and his family this summer. I think whoever get the Augie job, like I said in the previous post, is going to walk into a very tough, but good situation. When you have 5 big schools (SF Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln, O'Gorman, Brandon Valley) within a 15 miles radius of your campus and can pick a lot of good players from these schools, why can't you be good.

There might be a lot of interest in this job, the coach that was fired was doing a really good job in bringing in recruits and doing quite well in the cities. Of course being that you are at a private school as Augie is you have the tough academic requirements as well. Also not helping is the fact that the NSIC South is a grind with Mankato, Wayne, and Winona consistenly being at the top, now you throw USF in there it might be hard for Augie to compete. Even SMSU and C-SP will give teams fits every now and then. Its not like you get U-Mary and Minot state every year like the teams do in the North. To show how tough it was this year. Mankato and Duluth made the playoffs and Winona made the Mineral Bowl at 9-2. USF, also at 9-2, was left out of the D-II playoffs altogether. If that coach had a 22-13 record at SMSU, he would have a statue in front of the new REC. That would bring up the Augie-USF rivarly another 10 knotches. However, I would think that he would start setting his sight up higher in a few years once he gets a little success at SIU. Nothing would surprised me at this point what they decide to do to fill that job.
  12. I can see why some people have them picked as a sleeper this year in the Big West. Their Center #15 Joaquin, is a beast. He is coming off of MCL surgery and they are slowly working him back in. He went for 20-10 in 26 minutes. He is around 6'10-6'11 and he thrives in the paint, but he will shoot the mid-range jumper as well. If you don't respect him, he will take a 3. Their Forward #21 Brereton is their sharpshooter, while he was off on this game he is shooting so far 47.1% from behind the arch. Gotta have to keep tabs on him. Their other Forward #34 Standhardinger is their leading scorer right now and he loves to crash the boards and get the dirty points. Very good motor They got a lot of easy looks and lay-ups, but they struggled in shooting the 3 in this game, but they can light it up (went 11-24 against A-PB). They also shot well from the line. They are very well coached as Gib Arnold has really turned that program around. He has really spanned the globe in getting players to come to Hawaii and also getting the transfers to come. We will have to play very well against these guys. HBU did get a lot of open mid-range looks in the first half but they couldn't bury them at all.

Simple. They lost to cross town rival USF (they went 9-2, a big surprise in the NSIC), got blown out at home to Winona (lost 73-35) and nearly fell to doormat SMSU if they didn't miss a field goal at the buzzer(one day the Mustangs will be good at football) They feel they don't want to become the "2nd" Sioux Falls school
  14. Hawaii took down Houston Baptist 73-60 during the tip off marathon. They played at 3AM our time Currently watching the replay on ESPN3
  15. Assuming its on 100.3 for radio, and I know it will be on Bigskytv
  16. UND will have their first home game as they take on Crown College Wednesday Night at 7PM. Crown College had a 7-18 record as a DIII school. Question: Is this still treated as an exhibition? It was at first, but more recently the UND site took of the (exhibition) part off the game.
  17. Good, now I can check out the SDSU/UND game on TV. As for NDSU, I'll be there in person. (I have been going to Fargo too many times (1 for VB, 1 for WBB, and then for this)). For those bball junkies out there, future opponent Hawaii will be on the tip off marathon tonight at 3AM against former Great West opponent Houston Baptist. Its on ESPN
  18. I was curious too so I got the list together SUU 9/1057 MSU 10/977 UNC 16/733 UND 13/728 EWU 8/696 ISU 9/682 NAU 8/430 Weber 10/402 PSU 10/383 Montana 12/374 Sac St 11/244 So about top 4 in conference attendance. Very surprised that SUU is actually leading the conference in attendance with well over a 1000. For us, it might not take a 20 win season to get there, if this team make a deep run in the Big Sky tourney (say make it to the championship game), and having everyone coming back and more than likely having NDSU and SDSU in our place could get us there. Yes though, winning will put butts in the seat. The one thing I liked this year was our attendance was consistent throughout the year, we never did have a stinker when it came to attendance (worst attended game was ISU with 388), most nights crowds were around 600-900. Got the sweep, now lets keep the big Momentum going next week and get the #5 seed and get round 3 with UNC
  19. That, along with Traylor and Allard and all the other bigs. I thought despite that Brekke was playing pretty good. It looked like he left off from where he was last year. I think Traylor is going to be good one once he gets his feet wet a little bit. I feel bad for Allard, I hope he doesn't make a "NOT TOP TEN" for his attemped half court pass
  20. Holy Cow! What a match! UND take down EWU 3-1 to get the weekend sweep and clinch a spot in the conference tournament. UND looked choppy a lot of the night, but also played solid volleyball a lot of the night. They were flat in the first set, losing that, but then picked it up in set 2 and hung in there in set 3, winning both. Then came set 4 EWU exploded out to an 11-4 start, and look more than certain to go 5. Then UND began to chip away at the lead. While EWU got a point or two, UND seemed to match it and get a couple of more. All of a sudden its 17-14. Then they rallied to 20-20! EWU however got to set point first at 24-23, then we fought it off. Then they got to set point #2 at 25-24, we fought it off. Then set point 3,4,5,6 we fought it off. Then set point 7 at 30-29, we fought it off. At set point 8, we fought it off! Finally it was 31-31 and the girls had enough. A kill and an ace later set a well attended Betty into a frenzy and clinced a weekend sweep. Total attendance was 791
  21. So here is the situation. we take on Eastern Washington tonight. If we win, we clinch a spot in the tourney. A win and a MSU loss tonight (which is possible, they play NAU), would almost give us the #5 seed in the Big Sky tourney. We would then play UNC or NAU in the first round if that occured. Potentially getting UNC for a third time, being how close the first two games were, would be a good matchup for us
  22. Went 12-17 from the line, which was 70.2% If they can maintain this average for the entire season, that would make me very happy. Last year that percentage was around the 120 range. The important ones Huff 3-4 Anderson 4-4 Schuler 2-2
  23. Not a lot of good things to talk about tonight... Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn tonight I think we shot halfway decent from the line however
