  1. The Central is going to be a pure meat grinder
  2. UND shook off another slow start and made quick work of their non-D1 foe at home. Now they will face an old Great West foe in the middle game of their 3 game home stand as Utah Valley comes into town. This is not the same Utah Valley team that UND had faced in the Great West, not by a long shot. Under 3rd year head coach Mark Pope, Utah Valley has steadily improved and are looking to make a splash this season, batting Grand Canyon and New Mexico State for WAC superiority. They have loaded up with a difficult schedule to start. How would you like to start your season by going to Rupp and then Cameron Indoor for your first two games. To be fair, they held their own against Kentucky (until their president gave the "greatest" halftime prep talk). They also beat a solid UC Davis team at home and went up to Poky and beat ISU. UND and Utah Valley are tied 3-3 in the all time series. UND is 2-1 against them at home, with that one loss a 4OT game. Utah Valley has some very solid talent that they brought in through the transfer route. Akolda Manyang is the 7 foot transfer from Oklahoma. His basketball career has been a odyssey to say the least, but with the minutes he has gotten for UVU, he has made the most, averaging 15 and 9 to start the season. That includes an impressive 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists against Duke. Isaac Neilson is the other big body who can rebound very well at 6'11 and has a very high shooting percentage around the rim. He can step out and knock down the 3, so it is necessary to respect his outside shot. Conner Toolson is their 6'4 guard that can shoot it from outside. Kenneth Ogbe is the 6'7 German who can do a little bit of everything. The biggest challenge UND is going to have is team rebounding. This team has a LOT of length up and down the lineup. They are going to have to be at their best at basic fundamentals when it comes to rebounding. Avants and Jones CANNOT get in foul trouble. They also need to knock down some shots to free up driving opportunities for Geno and Stewart. Shooting 15% from 3 is not going to get the job done. Geno needs to get more than 3 points in this one. This is a good UVU team, this would be a good win at home if they can get it. The Call: UND is going to have their hands full with this team. Their length can cause some big (no pun intended) problems. To win this home will take something that they haven't quite done yet, put together a full 40 minutes, which means getting off to a great start. If UND can get the win, it would be a solid win, better than the win over Troy. I think UND performs well, but UVU will be too much inside. UVU 71-65
  3. Got nervous towards the end but they managed the pull it out. Split the next two and get back home 10-3
  4. I think we should be fine in the Summit year 1. I expect them to be picked near the top batting Denver and OR. I wouldn't sleep on USD, they are getting a pretty good player from Canby MN in Peterson. Be interesting to see what NDSU does in the next year or two. I still think their coach will turn that program around.
  5. Only so much you can do with a bland name The logo will always be better than the name. Every person I talk to about it is just dumbfounded about how it all went down. The only way this could have gone worse was if there was a vote on the logo... or it was Sundogs.
  6. Take Geno's percentage out of the equation and the team is shooting 22% from 3 so far this season. 22% I think Dale will put up solid numbers from 3 eventually, but UND does need someone else to step up and knock down some shots. Out of Stewart, Seales, Jafar and Trey someone needs to step in and give that. Not worry about the FT shooting, that will come around. My 4 main concerns with this squad right now and going forward is this: 1) Their starts have been mostly awful this year, that needs to change. 2) Keeping Jones and Avants healthy in the post 3) Someone needs to knock down some outside shots 4) Bench scoring Its a work in progress and it probably won't gel until about conference play. The pieces are there to have a nice team, they just need to come together No McCauley or Franken last night, even in garbage time. Are we any closer to finding out what is up with them?
  7. I could see it now:, it would be spun as "wow, look at UND waste money when they could have saved hockey with that money" *Before I get tarred and feathered, yes this sounds insane... but it would be spun that way. Even if UND never spent a dime. Just remember that tweet about how UND shouldn't have hired a secondary coach as an example.
  8. I doubled checked, it looked like they were in a tourney in an exotic location.
  9. couldn't have happened to a better program. I hope the Bunnies beat them big.
  10. It might be a good thing that I am not watching this
  11. I don't know if this would be a big reason, but perhaps the appeal of playing for a national title (albeit in a lower divison) is more appealing that playing in a low-tier bowl in the big level
  12. And that was only in 1 game, against a lower division team, and he played 7 minutes. UND needs all the height help they can get. I guess 4 minutes against Troy. I really hope he can get more minutes than that against actual competition (not counting tonight) if we are burning his shirt.
  13. he did (a whopping 14 minutes in 2 games) , but hasn't in the last two games. Only reason I state that is I thought I heard Raulson say in the Troy game that the plan was to redshirt him before Collins left. Unless he is hurt but watching the game I didn't see or remember anything happening. It would be nice to have some indication one way or the other. Now to be fair, I am not all privy to the whole redshirt rules nowadays, so I might need a refresher. UND is one injury away from their big men from having a serious issue on their hands. They need all the help they can get, even at 6'6. Wonder if the 4 guard lineup + Avants/Jones will make an appearance at some point during the year. Walter needs to find a way to get it going. 2 ppg off the bench won't get the job done, this team needs more. I wish we still had Shanks.
  14. So that would be him, Franken and potentially McCauley as our redshirts?
  15. UND suffered an 92-70 setback in Lincoln on Sunday to even their record at 2-2. They look to get back at their winning ways with a 3 game home stand, starting tonight against Northland College. I'm not going to go into too much details on this one, as UND should only have three goals in this one 1) Blow the team out 2) Get out with any injuries 3) Tune up for a solid home tilt against Utah Valley UND 88-50
  16. Wait, I thought the Griz were back?
  17. Before the season had started, the expectations for this squad could not have been higher. I'd say they met them. 30 wins and back to the NCAA tournament. Yeah they didn't win the regular season title, but regular season titles don't mean as much if you don't punch the ticket into the tournament. As for the game last night. When you have been there and done that and you have a senior class that developed a championship pedigree in their 4 years and have a knack for coming back from holes, was it all that surprising that they pulled it out? This is a special senior class, which contains potentially 2 of the best players to ever step on the court for UND volleyball. As stated many times, Hardee built the foundation of the program, but Pryor has taken this to another level. It is imperative that Faison locks him and his staff up long term. Next year they do have to replace a lot, but they have several good pieces where they could make a run the Summit. Why not go for 3 in a row?
  18. Big win against the Rams. They really took over in the 2nd half of the game. The strip of Kupp just before the half was the turning point. Now the most important one, must win against the Lions on Thanksgiving.
  19. He looked pretty good. SCL is a run-option team so they ran the majority of the time. The QB only threw the ball 9 times in the game. Nevertheless, the talent is definitely there. He was targeted 7 times and caught 5 balls. The two misses were knocked down at the line of scrimmage and the other was a throw that was in double coverage that he couldn't quite bring it. A couple of jump balls where he definitely had the advantage in height, but the QB underthrew him a bit so he had to adjust. Ran some pretty good routes, including on his long TD catch and showed some decent speed. He also had a great read on the Pequot QB on a interception and was the teams punted. Had 2 punts for 83 yards. Think he ended up with 5-131 and 1 score in a rout or Pequot. Pierz might give them a bigger challenge in the 3A title game. He will be a nice addition to that WR core for sure.
