There are many ways to get an open three and you hit on both things that UND needs to do. They can't be going 3-15 from outside. Otherwise, teams are just going to sit in a zone and go: We dare you to shoot it from outside. I will be very interested to see how they respond on Monday against Detroit Mercy and on Friday against Wyoming at home. If they can get 2 wins and get off to a great start in the non-conference season, then this is something we look back on and chuckle. I can't wait to watch Hurst on Monday.

So next weeks look at the Valley: I have ranked these games in importance for UNDs fans 1) YSU (6-3) @ Mo State (3-6) This is the most important game that isn't UND/USD. The Penguins are rolling right now and are in a very good spot to not only get to 7 wins but could win out to get 8. With that said, there is still a few areas of concern on their resume. First off, while they don't have any bad losses, they don't have any great ones either. A win at Illinois State might be their best win right now. So they might want to win out to really feel safe. A loss against Mo State would be a bad blow and beating SIU the next week might not be enough. If the Penguins want to make the playoffs, they need to win this game against a Mo State team playing out the string. Best Result: YSU winning would better UNDs resume. 2) NDSU (7-2) @ SIU (5-4) A few weeks ago, this could have been the matchup that decided the Valley title. Now? SIU is batting for their playoff lives. The good: They have that win against UND and an FBS win against Northwestern. The bad: The Missouri State loss is a bad loss and those two non-conference losses to Incarate Word and SEMO is really hurting them. However, they have two good opportunities for statement wins, with the first one coming up against NDSU. A win against NDSU could make a case for a 6 win SIU team getting in (NDSU, NW, and UND wins, how can you keep that out). However, a loss to the Bison would all but end their dreams. The Bison are looking for to clinch a seed, but what if they were to lose???? Then things would get interesting. Best Result: As much as we want to watch Bison Fans squirm, UND fans need to grit their teeth and hope NDSU send SIU to 5 losses. 3) IL State (5-4) @ SDSU (9-1) ISU Red was so close to getting an important win. That win would have gotten them to 6 wins and with games with SDSU and WIU left, they easily had a path to 7 wins. Now? They need to pull an upset in Brookings, against a team who just won the Valley AQ and is looking to lock up the #1 seed in the tournament. If they were to do that, game on. They would still need to win against WIU, but if they did that, a 7 win squad with an SDSU win might be enough to squeeze in. Best Result: SDSU finishing the job of an undefeated Valley season and cementing the 1 seed.
