  1. For old timers, Scheels really brought back memories from the old ralph.
  2. I missed the regional in GF so I can't give that perspective but the Fargo regional was far greater than any game I've been to at the Ralph and it isn't close. People shoehorned into the place literally standing in the corners, loud loud loud, and everyone actually involved in the game from puck drop. I love the Ralph but you get plenty of the night out on the town folks which you didn't have in Fargo.
  3. If I'm Brad Berry this might be the idea I float out there for extra motivation; Denver thinks they're going to send us packing with a short turn around into the 3rd place game with the hopes of knocking us out of the NC$$. How about we flip the tables and send them limping into the tourney? Please note I'm well aware of how last year played out for us.
  4. Brendan O'Donnell scored last night for the Florida Everglades. UND still undefeated when he scores???
  5. I know it would never happen but I like the idea of the refs being able to review potential dives during the intermissions (1st or 2nd) and award a 10 minute misconduct as they see fit coming out of the break. This discourages the act of diving, it doesn't delay the game, and although it doesn't result in a pp it does have a negative impact on the player/team. All potential dives during the 3rd period can be reviewed live for an immediate misconduct. Then you institute the 3 strikes rule; on the 3rd diving misconduct in a given year you are suspended 1 game. Maybe not perfect but something along these lines could work.
  6. Minnesota hockey in MSP, class A boys/girls state basketball in Bismarck, class B boys regionals, spring break for students, and potential weather. Lots going on.
  7. And most likely they would wear their red "away" jerseys and we would wear black which would make it tough on our first rounder that is colorblind. Black versus white is easier than black versus dark grey. It won't happen for a number of reasons.
  8. I would say 2 games. If a "hockey act" like a check from behind or contact to the head can warrant a 1 game suspension a "non-hockey act" should warrant more than one game especially because it involved an official. With that said the contact was far from having the intent to injure. I think worse case is 3 games. No suspension is asking for trouble however.
  9. It might be more beneficial to compare this years' UND team to the other teams that lost comparable players early rather than to past UND teams under Hak. BC lost 7 and are currently 20th in the pairwise. Michigan lost the same number (5) and are currently 40th in the pairwise. We lost 5 and are currently 16th in the pairwise. Flip a few embarrassing loses and we would still be looking at a 2 seed. It is definitely disappointing but we are doing better than schools in similar situations and we have #8 in the rafters. I'll take it and look for greener pastures ahead (while quietly hoping for a miracle yet this year).
  10. I can't tell you the number of times I've made the comment "nice pass if he shot opposite handed" especially when forwards are kicking it back to the point. I'm not sure if it is the passer not putting it in the right spot for a one-timer or if it is the d man not finding open space with a passing lane to their forehand. I suspect it is a little of both. There have also been games when 3/4 of the passes are aimed at their teammates skates. All of this leads to extra time for goalies to recover and become rockstars.
  11. I believe you meant Union. Jost had 2G against BC at the garden.
  12. I agree. I feel like this is the week we find the right balance between playing a grind it out road game like Union with a little offensive flare throughout the line up. And maybe the puck luck gods slant the ice in our favor for once this year.
  13. And IF we sweep this weekend most likely the 6th best team in the country according to the rankings that set the national tournament. In this case stats can be used to prove whatever point you want. Win this weekend and we are in the drivers seat. Split and we have to maintain status quo at a minimum. Get swept and we place ourselves firmly on the bubble. Incredibly important series this weekend.
  14. Great topic and even worthy of its' own thread. But I have to say the headline might be overselling it just a little bit. This website is a nice break for the click bait traps every other website sets these day. I was expecting some smoking gun that was going to take down a program, someone jumping up or down a level, the announcement of a brand new building for a conference foe, etc. Instead it is a "hey our programs are pretty good this year" thread.
  15. Per Dane Jackson they expect to have Jost back for WMU and he is one of the few that you know the effort will be there game in and game out.
  16. It is going to be a balancing act between needing to win now but having the bye week on the other side. I think Jost sits for sure but perhaps others with nagging injuries as well. I say over.
  17. Maybe the O went missing for say the last week or two. I've heard rumors that a D went missing as well but it is considered a cold case since it hasn't been seen since last April some time.
  18. After the last two weekends at The Ralph I'm really questioning if Boeser is dealing with a lower body injury as well. I expected a step backwards early in the year without the rest of his CBS line mates but we never understood the impact due to his wrist injury. But on a couple of occasions the past two weekends I turned to my wife and pointed to him skating behind the play. Either he was majorly dogging it or he didn't have his top gears working. I suspect something isn't quite right but it is hard to tell without Cags doing most of the heavy lifting and Schmaltz picking pockets in the O zone.
  19. Are you looking for ranking as of today or a projected rank at the end of the year?
  20. At least they got one line right in this article; "With a national championship and continuous trips to the Frozen Four, the ‘Hawks can solidify their place as a dominant force year after year."
  21. The website is interesting. Still don't know what it means but if they want to funnel the best young talent in the US/CAN to UND so Coach Berry can teach them "translatable skill principles" I'm open to it. http://www.belfryhockey.com/
  22. Following the theme of unfair NC$$ policies; it sure looks like a few JMU fans are enjoying a cold beer during the FCS Championship in the stadium. Did they change the stance on alcohol sales at championships? I know the FBS is getting away with it since many of the bowl games/playoffs aren't officially run by the NC$$. I still have nightmares about having to watch Minnesota play Boston College in Tampa without an adult beverage in my hand.
  23. Who is more dissapointed tonight Jost or Boeser? I can't imagine being on the losing team after that one. And while I'm sure Brock is extatic for his country I can't imagine sitting out the tourney due to injury and knowing you could have been part of that gold medal experience.
  24. "Spread 'Em" was my first thought as in "Spread Your Wings" but I fully understand why that would be considered unacceptable in all cases. In all seriousness, I don't want to derail the thread or the goal of the campaign but we already have an unoriginal name so copying every other school (including NDSU) with one of the first campaigns was a little disheartening to me.
  25. Can we please band together to stop the #WingsUp lingo? I have seen it used multiple times the past few days in different applications associated with the athletic department. Since "Horns Up" is an established phrase of one of our biggest rivals it seems like we can and should do better than copy their phrase.
