Went to a “sudden death” shootout when they added 3v3 so no more minimum.
-
Start tomorrow night 5-4 with 28.5 seconds left on the clock?
-
“We don’t want the #1 team in our conference.”. Signed NCHC Officials.
-
Someone want to remind me why all of these delays for replays are worth it? UND hockey has been on the bad end of blown replays far too many times in recent memory.
-
1). Perunovich should have been suspended for multiple games. Horrible hit + repeat offender = a needed lesson. 2) Pinto should be suspended. Senseless hit to the head and outside of the flow of the game 3) The NCHC should review the game and work with the officials on how to better manage the game. I’ve said these words far to many times while watching college hockey; “we will respond to those cheap shots/go after X player late in the third once the game is decided on the scoreboard”. If fans can see tensions building the refs should too.

I was thinking about a salute for the UND faithful after the Denver series but then Denver circled up to salute their outnumbered fans after taking 1 of 6 points on the weekend. They might as well hang a participation banner at that rate.

And the Wild graphic was Parise.

If a penalty wasn’t called originally their option is a 5-min major or nothing. If they call a penalty on the ice they can decide between a 2 or a 5.

Blind resume time. Which start to the season would make you the most comfortable? 1) 5-3 L vs Alberta, 3-2 L and 2-1 W vs UMass-Lowell 2) 4-3 W vs Alaska, 3-1 W and 4-3 W vs Lake Superior State 3) 4-2 W vs Alberta, 4-4 T and 2-2 T vs Bemidji 4) 5-1 W vs Manitoba, 5-0 W and 8-1 W vs Canisius 5) 4-1 W vs Trinity Western, 3-2 W and 4-3 L vs Minnesota —————- #4 looks pretty good to me. #2 hasn’t lost but close games with Lake Superior isn’t ideal KEY: #1 UMD (previously ranked #1) #2 Denver (currently ranked #1) #3 St.Cloud #4 UND #5 CC It is early but three convincing wins is refreshing to me. There will always be things to work on early in the year and there will be many bumps in the road to come. But to be anything but happy after the first three games is a bit nearsighted in my opinion.

Playing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.

The new scoreboard is too big, that is too many fireworks, I can’t possibly eat burnt ends in addition to other smoked meat. First world problems. Suck it up buttercups. Put on your big boy pants and polish off those burnt ends. Count me in on the you can’t have to much of a good thing.

I would swear Jean-Philippe Lamoureux was our new goalie coach with how much Thome flops around the crease.
-
And then during one of the first breaks after scoring three goals in a minute and half...blast Mambo #5. That will keep the crowd pumped up.
-
Who scores first UND football or UND hockey?
-
I have no idea what the difference is between a 5 minute major and a boarding call these days. It is so inconsistent.

I agree a trusted resale place that doesn’t add-on ridiculous fees may help. You used to be able to post them on theralph.com as long as they were at (or below) face value. Now they just point you to ticketmaster. The other key may be transitioning to mobile tickets that are easily transferable. If you are from outside the GF area it would be much easier to buy/sell tickets. I once met a guy from this site in a taco bell parking lot in Minot. I understand why that face-to-face transaction may not be for everyone. Or why out-of-towners don’t want to drive multiple hours and risk picking up tickets they bought from someone in GF last minute. Being able to download the ticket immediately would increase the trust factor and make the selling process much easier.

This would be a great start. I think arena management also has to makes the choice for atmosphere over ad sales. We went to the Golden Knights game in Vegas and I was very impressed. I love the idea of video clips; “hey UND fans this is (insert UND legend), get on your feet and help the boys protect the ralph and add to the tradition tonight” followed by upbeat music. As it stands now TV timeouts, ads/arena announcements, and random songs are a momentum killer. Build off of the “one last shift” theory and have a Jim Archibald clip on the screen to fire the crowd (and the boys) up half way through the third period.

Ticket sales is a non-issue. UND averaged 11,408 per game last season out of a possible 11,643 (97.98% of capacity). When you factor in exhibitions, multiple series when the students are off, games over holiday weekends, harvest/hunting season, etc. those numbers are remarkable. In addition, the total attendance led the nation by more than 40,000 over the course of the full season. If wasting $50 doesn’t deter people from skipping a game or two, good luck finding a magic cheer that will get them to show up. I believe there are two real questions; 1) how do you keep students (and future alumni) invested in the program and 2) how do you improve the atmosphere at the Ralph? In many cases these go hand in hand and many people have already offered suggestions in this thread. I agree these are worthy discussions but wanted to point out that ticket sales are not the root cause in this case.

http://www.keloland.com/news/article/sports/und-adding-two-video-boards-to-betty-engelstad-sioux-center According to the article, “UND Athletics and Ralph Engelstad Arena are financing the $600,000 project.” So perhaps the 52% does in fact benefit more than just UND hockey.
-
And lest we forget not a single national championship came with the Bennett Brien logo.

Curse of the bouncy ball center is left behind in Minneapolis and a new chapter is started at the home of big boy pucks in St. Paul...5-3 good guys.
-
Is team USA required to have a former UND player on their roster at all times going forward for key shootouts? Simple question.
-
CAN looked gassed in OT.
-
I pity the fool that was tasked with tracking turnovers in OT. Yishhhh.
