  1. How can any fan of a team in the western side of college hockey not be mad that EVERY regional is in the east next year? The WEST regional is in MICHIGAN. Our schools are in the middle of the country and the closest regional is 900-1,000 miles to the east for UND and about 600-700 miles for Minnesota. When you have 4 regionals to place it's inexcusable that something like this should ever happen, IMO.
  2. I think the best way to solve attendance issues is to do what has been said already, have 2 regional locations with 8 teams at each site.
  3. One thing that kind of pisses me off is that no regionals are anywhere near our region next year. The farthest west a regional comes is Grand Rapids, MI. Every regional next season is in the eastern time zone
  4. I think they said things like the floor don't need to be covered up. Problem is this. Will the NCAA want to allow UND to host a regional after what they've put the NCAA through?
  5. I assume the NCAA will not want a regional out of the country, but I don't see why they couldn't host one in Fargo. It would be a very small arena, though, for this area. It only seats around 5,000 people and I'm sure the NCAA would rather put the west regional in St. Paul, Denver, St. Louis, etc. in order to have the ability to get more than 5,000 people in the arena. Even though other than St. Paul, Fargo, and Grand Forks the chances of getting more than 5,000 in any other city that would host the west regional is highly unlikely.
  6. I agree but it's never going to happen. Either the NCAA will allow it at any school's arena no matter the ice size, or it's staying at neutral sites
  7. I think whoever made the actual decision to fire John Hill should be COY with Guentzel a close 2nd
  8. Obviously the announcer is more of an advantage
  9. It should be noted that a coach is automatically nominated for making the Frozen Four
  10. Today seven coaches were announced as the finalists for the award. SPENCER PENROSE AWARD FINALISTS Norm Bazin, Massachusetts-Lowell – Hockey East Coach of the Year Rick Bennett, Union – ECAC Coach of the Year and NCAA semifinalist Bob Daniels, Ferris State – CCHA Coach of the Year and NCAA semifinalist * Don Lucia, Minnesota – NCAA semifinalist * Mel Pearson, Michigan Tech – WCHA Coach of the Year Ryan Soderquist, Bentley College – Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year Jerry York, Boston College – NCAA semifinalist * * Past Spencer Penrose Award winner Read more: http://www.uscho.com.../#ixzz1qLLSCgBe
  11. They don't sleep in their own beds. For the Final Five and regionals they're put in a hotel by the X just like every other team. I don't know if the hockey team does it, but I do know the Gopher football team stays at a hotel every weekend they have a game, even if they have a home game. I'm guessing it's a thing to "Keep the players together." They don't always get put in the west region. The last time Minnesota made it to the NCAA tournament we played in Worcester, MASSACHUSETTS. You would be complaining more if it was on Mariucci because it's olympic sized ice, which is exactly why regionals are neutral sites now. Many coaches, including Dean Blais, used to get really mad to have to play in a regional that was hosted from a school with olympic sized ice. In fact, the year UND lost to Ferris State the regional was at Mariucci and Blais had a giant uproar in the Grand Forks Herald about how it's unfair because it's olympic size ice and yada, yada, yada. UMD should have beaten Denver at the Final Five if they wanted to be in St. Paul. Minnesota was put in St. Paul because they were hosting that regional. Same reason UND was put in Grand Forks for the West Regional the year Minnesota lost to Holy Cross. In both instances if they weren't a host school they probably would have been shipped out east. Maybe you should tell UND officials to smarten up and host a regional at the X so they know where they will be, this would likely result in Minnesota being shipped elsewhere too. Tell Mankato, Duluth, or SCSU to host a regional at the X. I believe schools bid to host regionals, and very few put bids in. Which is why Minnesota hosts so many regionals. Seems they host them every two years. Somebody can correct me on that if I'm wrong, though. Sorry to the rest of you on here.
  12. That's what it's sounding like. He said as of now Kristo is staying but that he could be waiting until summer when he becomes a free agent
  13. I'd have to guess the NCHC tournament will consist of the first round like the WCHA, and then the winners advance to a semifinal, and championship weekend. That means 2 game maximum the week before the NCAA tournament.
  14. The early report I got from a friend that grew up with a player on the UND team is that ALL underclassmen will be back. He said obviously things can change, but as of right now every player will return.
  15. Problem with that is I think only Wisco, UND, Omaha and Minnesota have rinks that hold 7,000+ people Not positive but if there's more schools there cant be many
  16. I don't agree with this at all. With all the parity in college hockey the 16 team format is more competitive than ever. Hell you could damn near put it to 24 and have a hell of a tournament. Granted that's too many teams since there's only 58 total, but with all the parity in college hockey there's no reason to downsize the tournament. They just need to return to campus sites. Or else force 2 of the 4 regionals every year to be in a place like MSP, Boston or Detroit so that they get some attendance. I mean for christ's sake, Warroad could host a regional and get higher attendance than a couple of the regionals did this year
  17. Geebus. Please tell me his intramural team won the championship
  18. Congrats on the great season guys. I doubted your team would make it this far halfway through the season and they more than proved me wrong. Goes to show that Hack is quite possibly the best coach in college hockey. We all know UND will be back very strong next season. As a Gopher fan I'm VERY worried about BC. They haven't lost since mid January and they don't seem to have much of a weakness. We're no doubt the underdog going into that game. Hopefully the Chia pet can draw up a plan to slow them down. One more year of this rivalry with only 2 guaranteed games. We better make it a damn good series.
  19. I agree with this. I don't want to see goals like 2 of Duluth's 4 were yesterday. I almost felt bad for Maine to go down like that
  20. haha pretty sure both fan bases are. We all know this game can go either way.
  21. As a Goph fan I'm worried about this one. Both BU and MN played far better than UND or WMU did today, but that has no bearing on tomorrow. Bjugstad is either sick or hurt because he was slow and lost on the ice today, so that's not good for Minnesota either. I did want this matchup, though. Revenge! (Hopefully)
  22. I think the biggest problem is that the NCAA jacked up prices for the the St Paul regional. And single game tickets for that regional didn't get put on sale until yesterday at 11am. Duluth's second goal was just...I don't even know. A breakaway shot off the crossbar, puck bounces off the glass behind the net and goes into the air, drops in the crease and goes off the goalies skate and in.
