If You Could Own UND's Hockey Team or the Lincoln Stars?
UNDBIZ replied to watchmaker49's topic in Men's Hockey
Yeah there must be an uneven cost allocation going on there to dump extra expenses on the men's hockey team. Also, those expense numbers would have to include player scholarships. I've gotta agree with gfhockey on this one, there's no way the women's team is making any money. I suppose nearly all the revenue being attributed to them could be coming from student fees. -

Source? Also, is the $1.5M after paying for the players' scholarships? I realize the Ralph isn't the cheapest building to run, but I can't imagine it's costing UND THAT much. -

$50,000 sounds like a lot, but in the new Ralph UND is selling 11,000+ seats at around $30 each every game ($330,000). -

Then I'd take UND men's hockey (without having to shell out for the other athletics programs). Watch out, ticket prices are going up under the new regime...... beer prices too. Nobody's ever said I don't know how to make an extra $1 Disclaimer: I have no idea what the Lincoln Stars finances look like. -

Do I still get to use donated money to pay for the players' scholarships? -
2012-13 Basketball Attendance.....................
UNDBIZ replied to bincitysioux's topic in Men's Basketball
Agreed. But not being able to watch a replay wouldn't make me stay home from the game either.... -
If Mussman proves himself, he should get a pay raise. I don't think his pay should've been increased 50% solely due to UND moving up to D1-AA. If he and UND ever decide to go their separate ways and UND goes outside to pick up a new coach, I'd assume the salary would be far more competitive. Also, if he ever gets the football program into a more competitive standing, he'd have a bargaining chip with which he can ask for more $$.

2012-13 Basketball Attendance.....................
UNDBIZ replied to bincitysioux's topic in Men's Basketball
Meh, I don't think people go to games to watch video replay boards, although they would be conventient. A lot of people now go to the hockey games because they are a party and it's the popular thing to do. This I definitely agree with. Losing to UMKC was an embarrassment. -

ndsu couldn't afford it either.... chapman didn't care
-
Also, since one of our bizun friends decided to chime in, the law was proposed and pushed by ndsu alum and house majority leader Al Carlson.

The North Dakota state legislature passed a law basically saying we aren't allowed to pick a new name until 2015 in order to give everybody kind of a "cooling off" period. I don't hate being reffered to as just The University of North Dakota, it's certainly better than the UND Spirit or the UND green and white. Most on this board, including me, like it when the sports commentators/writers accidentally refer to us as the Fighting Sioux. Hopefully we start hearing some potential options for a new name from the university soon. If they pick out some !@#!$ name (see: Spirit) I'm guessing most fans will complain and then eventually just ignore it and keep referring to the teams as UND.

Anybody know the answer to this one about Opara??
-
As in he's doing it for show?? Trying to get someone else to offer or what? I don't know much/anything about the kid..... is the problem academics or why are we thinking he's not actually coming to UND?
-
So is Opara pulling a Te'O on somebody or what is going on here?
-
just curious, where are you going to see the NLI's that are in?
-
Can probably blame Eide Bailley for the background check, as I'm sure the SBoHE had one done and I believe the state typically contracts with Eide to do them.

Ugh, that view is not very good and I don't see how other seats would be any better. They should've arranged the ice to be closer to the stands somehow. I guess I'm not sure how though.... maybe by not having a hockey game on a baseball field.....
-
Huh, well good thing there is no shortage of flat, open ground in North Dakota....
-
It should also be noted that the Sleep in didn't build on land owned by the city/Alerus. That was privately owned land, same with the land to the south of the current Alerus parking lots and on the east side of 42nd St.

Bismarck/Mandan Krolls and Fargo Krolls are 2 completely different places IMO. Bismarck/Mandan Krolls are staffed by people who are actually of german descent.
-
The hotel to the south didn't take up any parking spots, that area was an empty, unpaved lot. Also, the Alerus added parking to the southwest of that hotel several years ago. IMO, there is ample parking available, people may just need to carpool to the games (which they should be doing anyways to save on the $5 parking charge).

I'd put it at around 85% chance he doesn't make it past June 30, 2013. The one thing that people against getting rid of him will point out is the fact that Grindberg is a Bresciani/NDSU lackey. People complain that the university system office doesn't keep the campuses in check and then they complain when the university system office tries to place limits on the campuses. There's a very fine line that must be walked and it looks like Shirvani wasn't aware of it or just didn't care. The SBoHE made a move of desperation in hiring him in order to get a stronger chancellor, but now it looks like we've gone from an incredibly weak chancellor to a tyrant. The SBoHE needs to find someone closer to the middle and perhaps someone homegrown (raised in ND) who actually cares about the state.
