If I remember correctly, I believe the total coaches' salaries for women's sports have to be within a certain percentage of the total for the coaches of the men's sports. If that's the case, I wouldn't mind taking the women's hockey budget and throwing all of it towards volleyball (to keep it going on it's path upward) and women's basketball (to get it back to where it was in the mid/late 90s).

Revenue that could legitimately be attributed directly to the women's hockey team wouldn't even pay the head coach's salary, much less cover the assistant coaches' salaries, athletic scholarships, and travel. The University does a lot of accounting gimmicks to reduce the costs and increase the revenues associated with the program. I doubt they see any of the expenses for athletic department overhead, but they receive a large share of money from the student fees and other revenue sources (merchandise, concessions, donations, etc.). Also, outside the books of the university, the Ralph operates on a loss for the Women's hockey team, but makes up for it with revenue from the Men's games.

Agreed. Hak recruited skaters instead of giant pylons...... who were garbage.

No more defensive Finleys.... I mean pylons.

I'll take a Mike Tolbert in UND's backfield any day.

And at worse, a loss to an NAIA team who outplayed us and multiple lopsided losses against anybody remotely good and Idaho.

The team exceeded expectations against EWU. That's all the credit I'll give them. In reality, the expectations were so horrific coming into this game that it would have been difficult for the team to play down to them. Watching the game, I saw far more simple EWU mistakes on offense than good plays by the UND defense. I'm tired of hearing how we should be happy to lose to good teams by "only" 3 touchdowns. I'm tired of hearing that maybe Muss should be given another year to right the ship after squeaking past the worst team in the conference and losing to one of the top 3 conference teams by "only" 21 points. There are no more excuses available for this team to be where it is and I'm not going to lower my standard for the team to "well at least we finished just 1 game under .500." Also, I'm not going to say the defense is moving in the right direction based on their play in 1 game against a team that thought it was on a bye week.

You're right, the bar had been moved down to around 6 feet under. They played with more passion than they did against the Montana's, against whom they played with ZERO passion. EWU slept on us and ended up "only" scoring 35 points and "only" winning by 3 touchdowns.

Gophers back on the schedule in a couple of years?
UNDBIZ replied to 82SiouxGuy's topic in Men's Hockey
Wasn't this one of the reasons we split away from the WCHA to begin with? To give future schools adding hockey an attractive landing spot? I think a Big12 school would be a nice addition. Figuring out the schedule wouldn't be that difficult (we already have unbalanced scheduling) and come tournament time, sorry 9th placed team, you stunk all season and don't get to play anymore. -

Cough..... NCHC...... cough -
The announced attendance is the tickets sold. All the tickets allotted to the students are counted as sold regardless of whether they're taken or not. I think there's enough student seats and already sold seats to keep us over 7000. The entire west side was empty yesterday save for the band and maybe one 100 others. I don't know how it could get much worse.

A lot of unforced errors by ewu made the defense look better than they were
-
The fact that losing by "only" 3 touchdowns is being looked at as a positive is a pretty good sign that a change should've been made to this program years ago.
-
And probably 2000 of those were unused student tickets.

It's kind of like being happy when gas is only $3.10

Ugh on no ausmus or chyzyk

I understand why most of the students didn't show up today, but can't the players at least get their friends and girlfriends to come to the games?
