  1. Looks like the "budget issues forced Blais out" talk was somewhat exaggerated.
  2. For comparison purposes, state funding for North Dakota higher ed (not including funding for new buildings and other projects) has been cut over $100 million. The state could've closed Lake Region, Williston, Dickinson, Mayville, Valley City, and Bottineau and still needed to find a couple million.
  3. Sounds like Omaha is having major budget issues right now. Does MVC/Horizon really want that?
  4. Apparel sales, Champions Club donations, and TV revenue not allocated. Even so, $2.9 million over 100 students = $29,000 per student athlete. WIH was $80,000 each.
  5. Did you know ESPN refuses to spend a few grand to send a crew to the NCAA WIH championship? Beyond that, they refuse to give up a couple hours of Sportscenter reruns on ESPN 8 to even air the game? Women's fencing championship coverage? Yep. Women's bowling championship coverage? Yep. Women's hockey? Nope, CBS Sports can have that tax write-off. But we (ESPN) are going to pretend to support you now.
  6. Since when does ESPN care about hockey?
  7. Not anymore I guess.
  8. 100 students versus 25. 10,000 fans at games versus 200. Champions club donations not recognized. Apparel sales not recognized. Not offshoring certain costs on MIH budget. Growing attendance and revenue. Only team sport other than MIH likely to produce a national championship. High local youth participation rates. Title IX.
  9. Well he already addressed that. Just cut the unnamed, likely already laid off or demoted, boogeymen administrators.
  10. The elimination of WIH and any other sport at UND was unfortunate, but necessary. In a completely separate statewide higher ed conversation, Dakota College at Bottineau should be closed immediately. Mayville, Valley City, and Lake Region need to start coming up with reasons to justify their existence.
  11. Whoever came up with the $32.5 million number must've assumed reduced expenses or better returns.
  12. If you assume a 5% return, $32.5 million gets you an annual budget of $1.625 million.
  13. Possible? Sure. Likely? No. Also, it'd likely be robbing Peter to pay Paul, as the pool of potential donors of that size for UND isn't very big, so that $$ may have been donated for something else.
  14. Sounds like he has a friend or family member on the team.
  15. No, no, no... it's for the children.
  16. I guess he changed his mind.... Welcome Quentin

  18. And hundreds more watching around the world. Give those gals a raise!
  19. I'm not advocating to use that money to save sports. Was simply pointing out we kind of almost learned from the 80s bust.
  20. We did put billions in reserve funds this time. We're just refusing to use them.
  21. You know nothing about Shanks. You've had inside basketball info in the past, but you don't have it for this situation. You're in a hole, now quit digging.
  22. I'll trust Mr Vandalay when it comes to Shanks.
  23. He did walk barefoot on frozen water.
  24. It couldn't make the sport worse
