  1. Detroit Lakes and Big Sky football represent a night and day difference.

I just think the sample size is a too small for the conclusions you've jumped to.

5-star QBs across the county often sit for a year or two before making their first start. Playing quarterback is a complex PROCESS and immediate success or lack thereof is often not indicative of the long-term potential.

on top of that, in practice, Mollberg is going against the porous UND defense... not the standard for learning to play against the top defenses in the Big Sky, like Montana, Montana State.

  2. He's done at the end of the year...the Homecoming loss will be so bad that he might even get canned at the press conference....

I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that Mussman is going to be HC until (at least) the end of the season. This is not USC. Also the coordinators are young and inexperienced.

  3. So UND's coaches feel there is only one (1) DI prospect in all of the Dakotas and Montana? I would hazard a guess that there are full ride offers to kids from those 3 states from other DI schools. UND may not get them all, but it appears they are not even trying.

  4. Stockwell was probably the top OL recruit by any Dakota school last year. Bell was highly recruited as well. Mussman described Miller as 'a mauler'. Iverson and Kuksa have already made an impact and have shown grit. This true fr class is something special.

OK, that's 5. Out of a recruiting class of how many? And how is UND doing with the 2014 class? All I'm saying is that they need to step up local recruiting - a lot.

  5. if NDSU can have the record they have had with 63 local players, what is the problem with local recruiting for UND? Its not getting talent from Chicago - its getting smash-mouth trench players from the farms, ranches and oil country that have formed the foundation of the NDSU, Montana State, Montana and yes, even SDSU's teams. Wasn't Mussman an offensive line coach? Why can't UND recruit offensive linemen that can give Mollberg or Bartels 3 or 4 seconds in a pocket or consistently open holes like they did for Shaugabay's TD?

I'm getting at the fact that NDSU, MSU, UM have proven there are DI caliber players in the remote areas of the northern plains and UND is not recruiting them. The Dave Osbornes, Phil Hansons, Jim Kleinsasserss and Weston Dresslers of the future are in ND high schools and junior high schools now. Why aren't they being heavily recruited by UND?

  6. I think you need to look at the quality of players we've had from Illinois the last couple of years that would account for the discrepancy. We've gotten back to our Midwestern roots in the last couple classes and it's no surprise that they've been our best.

I think if you look at the records, the ND, SD & MN kids UND is missing (UND's out of region vs NDSU's hi local count) are pretty decent quality players.

  7. ... We have a brand new poster alleging things with no evidence to support it. We are just supposed to believe them. ...

    almostheaven/watchmaker is that you?

  8. As I read the posts above about UND not recruiting ND schools, while Bohl is, it is a sad commentary when the staff doen't even know who is responsible for recruiting ND/MN.

this is only my uninformed opinion, but the big frustration with the general direction of the UND football program is that UND is in the midst of the prime recruiting territory for FCS football talent - the foundation of NDSU, SDSU, Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington football teams is the farm boys, ranch hands and roughnecks (please, I intend absolutely NO disrespect with that reference) that are tough as nails in the trenches. Those programs have the same basic territory to recruit and look what they are building. NDSU & SDSU can go up against Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and get some studs that they want in the strength positions. UND? Well, the Sioux may be getting some talent now, but, you have to know what to do with it when you get it.

  9. I am going throw out an the off the wall candidate. Not sure how well he would be received and comes with some baggage. Mike Kramer at Idaho St.

He turned around Eastern Washington and he turned around Montana St. He left MSU under fire because he had some questionable players (criminals). He is currently stuck at at a dead end job at ISU, a place that receives zero community or institutional support. I only mention him because he has the reputation of a program builder, he has been a head coach for years, he has been around the Big Sky his entire life, and I bet he'd entertain coming here if he were approached about it. As bad as things are here right now, I have to believe it is more attractive place to coach football than in Pocatello.

Again, i have no idea if this would be a good fit at all, butjust the name was worth throwing out there.

Idaho State actually seems to have a decent team this year

On the other hand, Mussman has managed to keep his teams out of the 'other' news...

  10. I too question what Faison and the athletic department are willing to pay the next head coach, that is if Faison does indeed do the obviously requires thing and remove Mussman and his staff. I hope they get a 200k+ kinda guy but that depends how much Faison is willing to commit to the football program. So far there has been no indication that Faison wants UNDs football program to be a top 3 half Big Sky program.

    FIFY

  11. Maybe its that the coaches are not making scholarship offers. They may not have confidence that they will still be on the staff to do the coaching when these recruits actually take the field. That may be why someone like Wilkie hasn't been offered yet.

  12. This is trolling?

Trolling??? I was simply wishing UND luck this weekend because I will be rooting for them, which obviously offended you.

not trolling... welcome opinions from Griz (anti-cat) fans :)

  13. foxsports.com story:

The only thing that has changed since **** is [the] ********* have become poorly coached. They often appear confused and lifeless and players do not seem to be getting much better from one year to the next.

no, its not about Mussman and the Sioux, its about Mack Brown at Texas.

this is only my uninformed opinion, but the big frustration with the general direction of the UND football program is that UND is in the midst of the prime recruiting territory for FCS football talent - the foundation of NDSU, SDSU, Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington football teams is the farm boys, ranch hands and roughnecks (please, I intend absolutely NO disrespect with that reference) that are tough as nails in the trenches. Those programs have the same basic territory to recruit and look what they are building. NDSU & SDSU can go up against Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and get some studs that they want in the strength positions. UND? Well, the Sioux may be getting some talent, but, like Mack Brown, you have to know what to do with it when you get it. Heck, even the Bison fullback is a better blocker than the Sioux linemen. They are bigger, but Grothman has more heart. It feels like confused and lifeless does not describe only the Texas Longhorns this season.
