  1. ok, maybe I am not remembering as clearly as you, but there was a lot of praise being lauded on Bradley before he showed up on campus. it may have cooled a little after spring ball. doesn't change the basic tenet of my post - someone more along the lines of Caruso, Leipold, Wristen, Pflugrad, even Kleiman; or from BCS ranks like Cotton, Aranda, Claeys if the salary could meet their standards.

  2. seriously?? you are trying to say that Grand Forks is better than anywhere in Colorado? Even Greeley? I grew up just down the road from Grand Forks, spent 4 years in Grand Forks. It may not be the end of the earth, but you can see it from there. Now the IPF, the indoor stadium, the academics, where the graduates get jobs - those are things to brag about...

  3. Reading the persuasive posts on the Bollinger side and have lost some resistance to the idea. Then started to remember the hype on this board about Joe Mollberg 2 years ago - all the potential he was going to bring to the Sioux. Then thought a little farther back about another QB who was going to transform himself into a great QB out of a California Junior College like Aaron Rodgers named Joey Bradley. So, I'm getting a little gun-shy about these highly-hyped prospects who have not proven themselves. (However, Braden Hanson worked out rather nicely and Hendricksen developed into a very strong QB)

So, in the end, not feeling all that confident about Brooks Bollinger. Not to say he (or Mollberg) will not develop into the head coach (quarterback) that so many here are saying he will. Mollberg will have 3 more years to do it. Bradley never did turn out, for UND or the places he has been since. So, would Bollinger spend 2 or 3 years learning how to be that head coach everyone is saying he will (I sure wouldn't say that he won't), then take UND to the playoffs in 4 years or so. Who can say that he would turn down an offer from someone like U Wisconsin as soon as he becomes the head coach people on here are saying he has the potential to become. Or will he not become the awesome coach some on here are proclaiming that he will, a'la Bradley?

Yes, there are no guarantees that whomever is chosen to be the next head coach will not move on in that timeframe (much like Bohl probably will very soon) or will work out at all. Not expecting guarantees, just want better odds.

[disclaimer: this is only the opinion of someone who has never coached or even been coached since high school]

  4. Not advocating for Berg of course, but the NFL and DI experience criteria are "Preferred Qualifications".

The minimum requirement is Head Coaching or Coordinator experience at a DII or DIII school.

That makes the potential pool of candidates much broader than what we are all focusing in on....................

The minimums are usually added in case you don't the right quality candidates. Clearly should not be a problem in this case.

  5. I could not disagree with this thought process more. Recruiting coordinator for Alabama? I am pretty sure a trained monkey could recruit for a program that has the tradition and championship rings that Alabama has. He family doesn't coach for him, so it doesn't matter what his dad and brother have done. He has zero connection in the midwest with HS coaches. Anyone can "mirror" there program after Nick Saben, but we aren't sitting in the middle of the SEC with tons of D-I players within shouting distance.

Remember this, Tim Brewster was a "recruiting genius" for Texas and had ties to the NFL, and look how that panned out for Minnesota.

the other question about this guy... the same thing everyone is saying about how Bollinger is a UND guy - his dad was the IUP head coach for many years.

  6. Due to the fact that it is the only season under Muss when we have had SEVEN home games.

c'mon Oxbow, lighten up. You got your way, as did most of us on this board. didn't you see the :whistling: ?

  7. So what's your point Coach darrell? Those are merely statisitcs and don't mean anything... :silly:

The fact that this season was the worst average attendance during the Muss era is because of the schedule and all those highly rated teams we had to play against. ;)

but it was the highest total attendance since 2007. :whistling:

  8. For that reason, Bollinger makes sense. First off he is a UND GUY so he will be here for the long run. We need stability. Fans love him and will remind them of better times.

He is a UND guy??? How many downs did he play for the Sioux?

Not against the idea, but he is a UWisco guy, isn't he?

  9. Agree.. Need someone with D1 experience.

    Caruso - No D1 experience = NO

Bollinger - No head coaching experience = NO... Never been a coordinator and has only 2 years coaching QB's. Knows nothing about defense. (Would be the same as naming Schleuesner head coach)

Tibesar - D1 experience as a coordinator + LB coach for Bears = MAYBE

Hazelton - D1 coordinator + former bison coach = MAYBE (Not sure how I feel about a Bison coach at UND)

    Bubba - NO

    Lennon - NO

    Deboer - NO

I need to see more names to choose from. Nothing on this list excites me. We need a D1 coach.

So Tracy Claeys, Barney Cotton, Dave Aranda or someone like them is more to your liking? This may be how Faison in thinking, as well.

  10. probably out of our price range. Current salary appears to be 250k/year

to get a top quality HC, Faison will have to open up the checkbook - probably with a combination of base, performance, attendance, scholastic, etc incentives. All these FBS coordinators will command a higher pay than Coach Mussman and his staff did. UND will have to step up to get top talent.

  11. Here's the count of NCHC televised games with the exclusive CBSSN contract (1st number is the number of times the teams are on nationally on just CBS, the second the number they'd be on with ND having the national FCS contract).

    North Dakota 6-17

    Miami 4-2

    CC 4-2

    Denver 2-0

    SCSU 3-2

    WMU 4-2

    MDU 2-2

    Omaha 1-2

    Totals 26-29

Exactly how much did the teams benefit from voting for the exclusivity contract (Note: this doesn't include games on regional networks, that viewers can access nationally with satellite sports paks -ie Denver on ROOT, or on FTA, where many games can be found). The big hit was taken by UND alone, hence my "idiotic" conspiracy theory.

UND has more games on CBSSN than Denver, Duluth and Omaha combined?

  12. from anygivensaturday.com by WeAreNorthDakota

Faison stated in an interview this afternoon that he'd like someone with D1 experience and/or NFL playing experience. Based on that I'm guessing Caruso doesn't get a look initially.

sounds like a Brooks Bollinger resume...

  13. agree that it probably will not be someone being discussed on this thread.

when a decision is made will more than likely have to depend on where the candidates came from - FCS regular season is not over until next weekend, playoffs even longer, FBS goes into December and then bowl games, DII and DII candidates will depend on their team's run into the playoffs. really don't expect a decision until at least the middle of December IMHO

  14. Why not hire d3 coach Lance Leipold? He has a higher winning percentage (95%) than Caruso and has won 4 National Championships. Now that guy is a proven winner!

Yet the votes here are 15-0?!? Haha (lots of groupthink)

    OK. that works.

had not checked in to him.

  15. Need a proven head coah no matter the division level...someone with an amazing record. Not a guy that didn't make the playoffs this year.

    Before this season:

Caruso has built a 57-8 record in five seasons at St. Thomas, with four NCAA playoff berths and an 11-4 postseason mark.

so now he has a 65-10 overall record (.867). They were 8-2 this year. a DOWN year!

  16. Caruso? He didn't even make the D3 playoffs.Need a D1 coach. Bollinger.

first time in five years. has he been HC for 6 years? St Thomas was 7-3 the year he took over after 2-8 the previous year. Tommies were 8-2 and ranked 16th but passed over by selection committee.

like his credentials, but Faison has stated the search will be nationwide. should get a great pool to pick from. if Caruso, Bollinger, Claeys or whomever is selected, just cheering for him to be as successful as Hardee.
