You have a great point. Grand Forks, just like most other places is full of fair weather fans. I was at the A&M Kingsville game which was the first game of our transition to D1. There was a great crowd and people were excited. Shortly thereafter we began the losing trend and attendance slowly and steadily began to drop. How else can one explain the low attendance when we are playing better competition? Grand Forks is full of Fair weather fans...just like Fargo.

I was thinking the same thing. People out here seem to be very familiar with UND due to the relationship in hockey with CC and DU. Some trolls may try to refute this but i live here and whenever I say I am from ND many people immediately associate that with UND Hockey.

Thank you for the correction. Was there figure skating events at the dome some years ago?

It has ice capability but if I recall correctly they needed to build a separate arena for D1 hockey and at the time Fargo taxpayers did not want to foot the bill. All of this was long before Scheels arena.

I also believe that part of the issue was voters in Fargo not wanting an increase in taxes to pay for a new hockey arena. This was like 12 years ago when the idea of NDSU getting D1 hockey was begin floated around.

Thank you for breaking this down. I knew we spend more on hockey but nearly all was not accurate. I believe that there are other elements to this argument such as institution size for example. Miami and UND are seem pretty even in enrollment (14k - 15k). I am not hating on the MAC. In the past I have always pulled for MAC teams in football such as No Ill the past few seasons. Fun to see the underdogs (No. Ill the major exception) win. I just think that there is a fair amount of similarities between the MAC and Big Sky. However, there are teams in the Big Sky such as No. Colorado that do not fit these similarities. UND has great facilities and new buildings coming such as the indoor practice facility, but we do need more seats in football. UND does need to put more resources into football asap. As I am sure you are aware we had a pretty rough season last year and many here seem to agree that more resources would help move FB in the right direction. Out of curiosity what does Miami spend on hockey? Good news! We seemed to be a little short there after the recent defections.

I have looked at athletic budgets from MAC schools and they do not look much different from most Big Sky Schools...These numbers were from USA Today so trying to refute them is pointless.
