  1. I think it would be funny, their fans have been woofing away and all but giving themselves the national title already. Of course I hate to remind Goofer fans remember the name Briggs, the goalie that is an all-american during the regular season only to fall like a prom dress on prom night during the playoffs. What are goofer fans going to do when they get to the playoffs and Briggs discovers, hey I am the goalie that has sucked in the playoffs for the past 3 1/2 years all you will hear is the sound thud. Thud!!! I would hate to see another repeat of last season. Actually, seeing something like that would actually minimize the sting of this season. 2005-2006 Lets review 0-3 last season in the playoffs. (final Five doesn't matter) 2004-2005 2-3 record in the playoffs losing to UND in the Frozen Four (final Five doesn't matter. 2003-2004 3-1 that year not too bad, biggest joke was giving him an award for letting in 4 goals during the WCHA Final Five. So that is a 5-7 record in the playoffs. Hum, if I was the gopher fans I wouldn't be sizing up any title rings yet.

    Pulling Grieco

Great post and I agree with you.
  3. MTU is better this season than they were last season but the Sioux shouldn't have lost to this team, or at least not twice. I used to remember when losing to MTU was a disgrace, getting swept by UAA in Anchorage was also a disgrace. So this team is setting some bench marks. One thing I noticed is that MTU is pretty big, a lot bigger than the Sioux. UND is getting out muscled and out hustled this season. I figured at most we can only lose maybe 6 more games before we will be sitting home for the NCAA's and probably not even hosting a WCHA home series.

Sheppard blew this weekend, he missed some really key calls. The high stick on a goal on Friday night was also big too.
  5. Yep and its not a sin to bring this up, there is this status quo that is convinced not matter what some players do they are entitled to play and play for all four years. BS... Right now the goaltending situation this school is unacceptable, its like FSU not having a stud line backer it's UNACCEPTABLE, this isnt' an also ran program in the WCHA, this the 7 time national champion. If you can't see the obvious thats your problem. Don't lecture people who are seeing the obvious though. Your probabaly either a buddy of that said player/person or too biased to know the difference. On the bright note, there were a few this weekend. Oshie got three points this weekend and lets hope he plays like this against Dartmouth. Miller and Duncan were great too.

    Pulling Grieco

That should have been two penalty shots. It was blatant kicking the net off twice by MTU in the last period, the touching/grabbing of the puck in the crease is supposed to be an automatic penalty shot, irrelevant if the puck was touch by another player, if you touch the puck with your hand and your not the goalie in the blue paint its penalty and I don't think it matters if another player touched it first. Its apparent that Sheppard doesn't want to make a call that affects the outcome of a game. Not doing your job the way its supposed to is the same thing.

Bigger momentum killer is when you starting goaltender is pulled after playing well only to have your replacement booed by the home crowd.

Can say its not going to happen but it should, we are stuck with the same goalie next season.

It was even more hilarious watching Sheppard tell Hak that the MTU player didn't put his hand on the puck that he only like waved at it. This is what we got from reading lips and hand guesters.
  10. The post mortem show on the radio last night was a replay to the nights before, same thing different game, the Sioux didn't get any breaks (Oshie scored twice, hardly a mention), the Sioux hit 3 posts in _____insert period and on and on. I am not convinced this team is very talented at all. There hasn't been much evidence of it. The recruits coming in seem to have more press than this years freshmen. The Sioux have Toews and Oshie and Duncan up front great first line, only line that is really scoring. The second line hasn

    Pulling Grieco

Bull Crap!!! Saturday night Grieco played before he was pulled, Grieco played better than Phil played all weekend. The pre-mature pulling Grieco was ridiculous. By the way if you want to cloud the issue with fact, Grieco has a .925 save percentage in the last three periods he is playing in, what's Phils .840. Go back and review the tape, LeftyZL you have to be a drinking buddy of Phil or something because I don't know what game you watched, because Grieco put in the best effort in net for the Sioux in 8 games only to get pulled. I also think its sad that UND has won one game since Phil came back to the line up. Hum, interesting. Lastly, I am pretty sure Elliot wouldn't have saved the second goal. Grieco needs to control rebounds, Phil needs to go figure out how to not give up three goals+ every game. The only reason he didn't let three+ this week is he only play a period and a half.

    Joe Finley

Under the bus he goes. Actually I don't think the defense played that bad this weekend. We gave up 6 goals on the weekend. Moral victory. Finley as far as I could see played cautious and didn't get a penatly mor did he make any glaring mistakes. Lee on the other hand...
  14. Scott_M that is pretty much the statement of the week.

    Pulling Grieco

Seriously I think it was a horrible move that backfired on him. The Sioux came right back and scored, everyone in the section was going what? When Phil let in number three the Sioux basically stopped skating again. I thought Tony made some great saves and looked like he did against the Huskies. I thought it was funny when Phil comes in the a good number of the crowd was booing. Ah, how they turn on you.
  16. Who is Aaron Ness, he doesn't happen to be the defenseman from Roseau is he?
  17. My wife called me at the end of the game to say that the TV broadcast said 1987 was the last time Tech Swept us at UND, and the last time UND was swept at Tech was 1992. I know before this weekend we hadn't lost in 12 games. Tech used to be almost an auto win.

    Pulling Grieco

That was probably the best effort we have seen from a goaltender since the SCSU series. Too bad it went to waste. Over the last three periods of hockey Grieco has a .925 save percentage only giving up two goals.
  20. Lets not forget the effort by Grieco before he got pulled TJ Oshie had three points on the weekend 2 for Miller.

    Pulling Grieco

Grieco put in a quality start, gets beat by a nice goal and then Hakstol pulls him. Everyone that I was sitting with thought it was odd since Grieco played well and made some huge saves.
  22. I actually think it would be easier to recruit a goalie than can stop the puck than trying to replace blue chippers Stafford, Zajac and Spirko.
  23. Good question I just hope Hak has enough sense to decide that goaltending is an issue and address it in the off season before its too late and we lose another battle to one of our rivals. Anyone that thinks we don't have a problem at goaltending need to look past their love for Phil.
  24. I agree with a lot of what you said. It's pretty accurate, I think Lee is a decent player but is he worthy of a number one pick, good question. I know that there are some fans in the stands that would be happy if the Sens picked him up next year. I am not going to complain either. Lee is still a good player though. I have heard the same scuttlebutt around town about Hak before (Grand Forks) then to top it all off there were some people that were upset that Hak didn't pick Johnson for the assistant job, So Hak is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He is never really going to win, half the crowd is going to question him because he followed Dean Blais. A coaching legend. I am also sick of his post game comments, I want him to be upset, last year he called out some players publically.
  25. I see he is a forward, I suppose for 2008 or 2009?
