The Sanctions and Punishments Have Arrived
fightingsioux4life replied to The Sicatoka's topic in UND Nickname
I am calling you out because of your post telling prospective student-athletes that if they don't like competing under crippling NCAA sanctions, they can go to another school. The sad fact is, that is what they will do. The best athletes will go elsewhere (NDSU for example) and we'll get the leftovers. Just like Alcorn State, the poster child of the nickname-at-all-costs crowd. Your comment was irresponsible, reckless and is the type of thinking that threatens to destroy UND athletics forever and ever. That is not chicken-little thinking, that is the cold hard truth. Bottom line: Supporting the name and logo under sanctions is the same as supporting the destruction of UND athletics. That is the "common sense" position, not the one you espoused earlier. And if Star2City cannot accept those cold hard facts and truths, then he can just go over to SAB.com and have his "Big Sky is only bluffing" mentality affirmed over and over again. I am finished being Mr. Nice Guy to the nickname-at-all-costs crowd and their irresponsible, suicidal agenda. They must (and will be) called out for the damage they are doing to UND. And I disagree with you that our opinions don't really matter. It is the nickname-at-all-costs crowd that pushed the Legislature to pass this stupid law in the first place. It is the nickname-at-all-costs crowd that signed those petitions to put the issue on the June ballot. And it is the nickname-at-all-costs crowd that will (assuming the ND Supreme Court doesn't strike the law down) vote to repeal the repeal and enshrine the name and logo into ND State Law, which would ruin UND athletics as we have known them, forever. So it darn well matters what people think. That is why I will continue fighting for a pragmatic, common-sense conclusion to this matter so that UND will continue to produce both on the field and in the classroom. -
The Sanctions and Punishments Have Arrived

Dear Cratter, If the nickname and logo are more important to you than the University of North Dakota and it's student-athletes, don't go to the games anymore, don't support the institution anymore and get the heck off of this forum while you are at it! Problem solved. -

So that means Dave Hakstol is a coward? Should he lose his job? Nope, didn't think so. -

We get it, all you care about is Men's Hockey. Please go back to the Men's Hockey forum and leave the intelligent debate to the rest of us that have a clue. -

GPR further solidifies their position as Runner-Up High in ND High School Hockey (I think this is their 11th runner-up finish overall). -

But Rob Port, Frank Black Cloud and the rest of the nickname-at-all-costs group will tell you that it's "a small price to pay"! Doesn't that make everyone feel better? -
Roebuck retiring after this year?

It's TRAVIS Brewster, not Tim. And no, I don't think he'll ruin the program. -
I am finished playing Mr. Nice Guy with these people. They are endangering the future of UND as a whole and must be called out for what and who they are. And if you really think a clip from Billy Madison is "nasty", you haven't been online all that much.
-
And this is my response to them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hfYJsQAhl0 It is time to call these people out and point out how reckless and irresponsible they are being.

More then just a name. It is the spirit of the young and old.

Question my loyalty all you want son, but it doesn't change the fact that you and people like you are endangering this institution with your actions. -

And what about "fans" like you that are willing to keep the name at all costs and who think the consequences are "a small price to pay"? YOU, my friend, are the problem, NOT me. Your incoherent rantings make all of us look silly. -

But remember, it's "a small price to pay".

This is obviously part of the constitution that "Clueless Al" Carlson either has not read or is pretending doesn't exist. Al Carlson fancies himself as the "Prime Minister" of North Dakota and firmly believes he has control over everything. The Legislature has budgetary authority over the Higher Ed system (and the rest of State Government), but the administrative authority has been put in the hands of the SBHE. This was done to stop the political micromanaging that took place in the system during the early part of statehood. And it is becoming very clear that this provision is more needed than ever.

Alumni Association begins campaign against nickname
fightingsioux4life replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
I got news for you: "Clueless Al" Carlson is going to LOSE in his fight with the ND Supreme Court and this asinine nickname law will be tossed into the dustbin of history where it belongs. Then the UND Alumni Association is going to campaign against this even more asinine constitutional amendment that is being pushed and get that defeated (assuming it gets on the November ballot). Then you can fade quietly into the night since you care more about the name and logo than the institution itself. And we won't have to read your delusional drivel any longer. -
Hockey has some big start-up costs, but tremendous long-term revenue potential. This revenue can be critical in paying for things like Title 9 Compliance and travel, which keeps getting more expensive. They could join us in the NCHC, which would help us maintain a solid membership base. It would also help us trump the Big Ten Conference (9 teams are better than 6!).

We get it, anything and everything that happens as a result of keeping the name and logo is "a small price to pay". Maybe in your delusional world, but not in mine. The sanctions will destroy UND athletics. Living under the sanctions is...not...an...option. -
And this is the school that the nickname-at-all-costs crowd wants us to use as an example of how to proceed into the world of Division I athletics?!?! Uff Da!!!
-
I wonder if the nickname-at-all-costs crowd will start calling for Hakstol's head now?

Good comment! Fargo is the Minneapolis wanna-be of North Dakota. I believe they are about the same size as Bloomington, MN (a Minneapolis suburb). Looks like they are about 1.5 million people short.
