  1. I believe you; I was taking a shot at some of the bandwagon-jumpers in our society today.
  2. Real fans stick with their teams.......win or lose. And Vikings fans have definitely learned how to stick to the program during bad times.
  3. Ponder is struggling and probably needs to sit down, watch and learn. But it doesn't help that their only legitimate receiver (Percy Harvin) was out again yesterday. This team had an awesome draft in April and they need another awesome draft next April. They need some legit receivers, more depth on defense and probably another QB prospect in case Ponder doesn't work out in the long run. The team is much better than last year, but is still a couple of drafts away from being championship contenders. I honestly don't want them to sneak in the playoffs and lose the first game. It's better if they finish 7-9 and get better draft position for next year.
  4. The bottom line is the win-loss column. When the WCHA playoff pairings are announced, it won't matter if your team was "competitive in losses". When they hand out NCAA bids in March, they don't give a rip about "how the teams were playing during their losses". The more this team wins before Christmas, the better. These second-half runs are exciting, but they don't leave enough gas in the tank come tournament time.
  5. No, I hope we can sweep Denver because I can't stand the Pios, especially their dasher-dancing troll of a head coach. I hope the team gets a bounce from winning in dramatic fashion on the road in a place they have historically struggled. Whether it happens or not is anyone's guess. This team has tons of upside; what they need now is consistency.
  6. It didn't look good with two minutes left in the game on Saturday, did it? I was calling it as I saw it at the time and I will not ever apologize for doing that. Game tying goals with seconds left in the game are not exactly common. And while we did win the game on Saturday, we still have a lot of things to work on this weekend vs. Denver if the stick salute (let alone a split) is going to happen. The following weekend at Michigan Tech (no longer a push-over) is just as important. I simply am not a pollyan-ish, cheerleading type of fan.
  7. So I've noticed.
  8. A gross exaggeration. I usually talk about it when others bring it up, which people did after Friday's game. And no, most people on here don't get it, hence my signature being what it is. Anyway......... Big 2 points on the road. Time for a big home weekend vs. Denver. Time for a stick salute!!!!
  9. Says the poster with a depressing user name.
  10. And with Denver coming to town next weekend, four straight losses is a good bet.
  11. Don't blame Rowney, blame it on the "hot goalie".
  12. And Blais told him not to let the door hit his butt on the way out. Yeah, I have heard this too. I don't think it's really verifiable either way.
  13. You can "pepper" a goalie with all the shots you want, but unless you can finish, it doesn't matter. The Tigers have had poor goaltending all season.....until we came along. Either we start finishing our chances and play better in front of our own goalie or we'll get swept for the first time this season.
  14. How about ban thy self? All you talk about on here is how drunk you are, which explains all your stupid comments. Leave Goon alone, he's one of the best posters on his forum.
  15. If MSU-Mankato fires Hoffner, that will stain Hoffner with the scarlet letter of "inference of guilt". That could make it harder for him to find employment elsewhere. I'm not a lawyer, but I think there would be grounds for a pretty big civil lawsuit here. MSU-Mankato had better be careful how they handle this.
  16. Three goals should win you most hockey games. However, last night also proved that giving up five will also lose you a lot of games. Our defensive zone coverage has been a problem all season long and it looks like it still is. Why we are even talking about "hot goalies" at this point is beyond me. I get criticism for my signature on SS.com, but I think the "hot goalie" excuse is overused by our fan base and I simply won't jump on the bandwagon with everyone else. I don't hear other fan bases use that one nearly as much as ours does. The WCHA is one of the best leagues in college hockey year in and year out. The NCHC is looking like a solid league as well. Either we learn how to score on good goaltending or we had better get used to splitting every weekend....or worse. And that only seems to happen in the second half. One of these years, the second-half run won't happen and we'll find ourselves sitting at home in March after a .500 season. Tonight is the next most important game of the year.
  17. It's not November on SS.com if everyone is not in an ornery mood over our slow starts and taking it out on others. Let's wait until February to panic about the team's performance.
  18. Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim sounds off on the conference changes. It's classic Boeheim at his very best: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2012/11/22/jim-boeheim-ncaa-conference-realignment/1721455/ My favorite quote: "Like I said, if these guys (the conference commissioners) were running the United States in colonial times, Brazil and Argentina would be states because they have something we need. It's a great country."
  19. Watch out, you'll have the duckie and bunny brigade on your butt for suggesting that national titles are important. They'll remind you that they are almost impossible to win anymore, despite evidence to the contrary. They'll even suggest that we are at a major recruiting disadvantage because we aren't on the East Coast. All sarcasm aside, I agree with you.
  20. And I suppose they think the moon landing in 1969 was staged too? Forget the Gophers, I think Denver will serve as a nice substitute.
  21. And, in case anyone thinks I am one of those "Fire Hakstol" trolls, Blais had the same fixation with Josh Sievebeida in 2002. He kept putting him in there week after week and he was a sieve week after week. It was enough to drive me to drinking, and I don't drink. And no, I am not comparing the two; Gothberg is much more talented and has much more upside. I believe that Gothberg will be a good goaltender in time; I just don't feel confident with him right now.
  22. Hak has always been obsessed with the goalie rotation system, regardless if one of them is playing better than the other. Thus, the puzzling number of splits for our team year after year in the first half. Gothberg has not shown he is ready for this level, while Saunders is showing that his numbers with Alabama-Huntsville were legitimate. I predict a loss tonight, with one or two soft goals let in by Gothberg. Prove me wrong, kid.
  23. I think we should all lay off the personal attacks and speculation on people's character and watch it play out. If it works, it'll be great for Grand Forks. If not, someone else will take over that building and turn it into something. At least this guy has the guts to put himself on the line to be his own boss. We need more of this in America, not less. Good luck to him.
