The problems on defense right now are poor tackling and poor discipline. Those are fixable issues and those are issues that the coaching staff is responsible for. It is absolutely inconceivable that we can recruit good talent for the offense and the special teams, but can't recruit well for defense. Whatever we are doing on defense isn't working, whether it's the schemes, how these guys are being taught in practice or whatever it is. I am so sick and tired of watching us give up 30-40+ points per game and getting told by some people that "we just ran into a darn good football team out there". If you have a solid defense, you won't give up 30-40+ points per game and right now the defense is pure cannon fodder. We have to get back to the snarling attitude of the early 2000's when we didn't like giving up 1st downs, let alone touchdowns.

The game isn't going to happen anytime soon. UND will not make the playoffs this year, so the playoff match-up is off for another year. And there still isn't a contract for regular season match-ups. Each school should just focus on their own problems (UND's Defense, NDSU's Rap Sheet).

Why don't you go over to Bisonville and start a discussion on a hypothetical matchup between NDSU and Alabama? That would be a much more productive use of your time than trolling on a web site on which 99% of the people will not like you.

Then how do you explain all the yardage we gave up last week vs. Portland State, an FCS team. I am happy with the offense and with Hendrickson, but the defense is just not tackling well and is offsides every other play. Those are problems taht will haunt you no matter what team you are playing.

Nobody wants us to win more than myself. But we are all concerned about the defense (or lack thereof) last week and this week.

Is anyone else sick and tired of having a "defense" that gives up 30-40+ points per game? We used to be known for our defense and teams hated coming to the Alerus Center becuase we would just chew up teams and spit them out. Now we miss tackles, blow coverages and take stupid penalties. I know this is an FBS team, but if we can't tackle this week, what makes anyone think we will be able to tackle next week........or the next.......or the next. This season started off with so much excitement, I don't want that to be ruined this early.

They have been ripping on us for five years on the nickname soap opera, our rocky transition, our choice of conference (sorry boys, the Big Sky is the better choice) and anything else they can dream up. The arrogance of these people is back to the level it was in the 1980's when our program was in the toilet and they were winning national titles every other year. Well, we aren't in the toilet anymore and I hope we get matched up with them in the playoffs and beat them so we can shut them up. Screw the Bison.......the March is OVER!

Lamar Gordon never scored a touchdown against us. Not a single one. And it took him 30-40 carries to get 100 yards against our defense. I can think of several running backs that did much better against us.

What we can't forget is that during the Division II playoff era, these kids were still in grade school or middle school. And a good number of them probably didn't follow the program during our difficult transition period. They are absolutely clueless about our old traditions (Sack City, noise on 3rd and long, ect.). That is one of the problems with moving up to FCS, during the transition period you lose a generation of fans to poor schedules, no playoffs, no legitimate conference, some early beat-downs (that loss at SE Louisiana comes to mind). It will take time to re-establish these things. But I believe we now have the athletes, the schedule and the conference to make it happen.

Maybe the students wanted to get in line at REA for the first hockey game? Seriously, it is also time to stop using the "hockey is all that matters here" excuse to explain poor attendence at football games. Hockey doesn't start until next month and the first two weeks feature two exhibition games. People used to whine and moan about the teams we played; that shouldn't be a problem anymore. Either get with it or get off the bandwagon.
